I've lost a post!

My witty and culturally deft musical aside :band: to an OP's pleas for telecommunicational understanding :help: has flown away (o) and has been thrown to the ever-unknowable whims of cyberspace! :didisay:

Whatever will be, of my post three-nine-three? *wave*

No sight of it anywhere :##: - not in my post list, or in my active threads!

Has it truly been deleted forever from JUB's precisely-catalogued database of musings? :(

Or is it perhaps still 'out there' somewhere, only accessible by mods, but hidden like this from the rest of us? :D

EemsmondCup2006-393.jpg

^ this came up in searching for 393 online.... it is actually 393.jpg

Eemsmond Cup? And the rest seems to be Dutch....

HARKE! What does Wedstrijden and Albeeldingen mean to you?

If the mods can hear me
And can understand my plea
Then please enlighten me
About my post #393

and for the rest of you - this is my first attempt at posting humour - what do you think?

and yes, I know I've got way too much time on my hands....

Maybe you should look under your desk? None of your latest 25 posts was deleted, and I can't be bothered to check more, maybe you should write an opera ;)

Great! Nothing says funny better than a boatload of zany emoticons--except maybe banana peels and pies in the face.

I have, on more than one occasion, been known to do something as stupid as 'closing the page' instead of 'pressing submit' on a post.

Oh - and don't make me admit to having half completed a post - then clicked the prior thread page to recheck something before I finish & *oh bugger* it's gone! Oh shit - I did just admit that. Oh well - I don't do that very often these days - I usually remember to go back in another tab...

Anyway - perhaps you did some thing equally absent minded as my first example?

To translate my original post into plain English....

I posted on a thread where the guy gave out a telephone number.

That thread was then closed. I can still see it - 'call me' - but I just can't access it.

I assume therefore that my post still exists, but it's just accessible now only to mods.

Correct?

The thread was probably deleted? They normally just remove e-mail address/phone numbers but if there was nothing else in the thread then they might have deleted it.

It is against the rules to post personal info in the forums because there are robots who read your posts and then they sell your information to Indian guys named Paul & Dave who can't speak English very well and like to call you just as you got into the shower so they can talk about saving money and how fast your internet is.

^ LOL - I know exactly what you mean, I've got telephone questionnaires from India a few times as well. The wierd thing is I say something like "Can you repeat that?" and they take it as the answer to their question. #-o

offtopic: If my post was deleted, however, wouldn't my post count have gone back a number?

I didn't, so I have faith and hope that my post is still out there, somewhere, in the great unknown....

That thread was then closed. I can still see it - 'call me' - but I just can't access it.

Where can you see it?

Sometimes I kinda "brute force" kill spammers. This bombs their threads and also all the replies to them (if we leave the threads, the bot-owner can see that his spamming worked). This would not reflect upon your post count, because some people are really touchy with it

That whole thread has been deleted, as well as the original poster...

And ChickenGuy, I enjoyed your humorous post... you should do more...

Administrators have the power to vaporize things never to be seen again. Mods, depending on the privileges granted, COULD have that much authority but it would be stupid on the part of THE administrator to turn loose that kind of power to a mod.
If WE can't see a deleted thread it's likely most mods still can view the offending posts.......unless it's been vaporized or being further discussed by powers that be.

^^ Thanks, NedNickerson ..| and ^ thanks for the info, seven2go ..|

Do you really keep track of your post count to that extent?

Yes, I do! #-o

offtopic:

I'll wrap this up with a brief message to the mods....

The offending OP's post could, you know, just have been edited to remove the telephone number.

This would have been a little more sensible that throwing the entire thread away, because when you do that, you are, in effect, censoring my post along with the eight or nine others who replied in that thread.

Everyone who replied in that thread either made a light remark or cautioned the OP against what he was doing, and I don't see why those posts shouldn't be allowed to stand.

All that was needed to do was edit the OP, which would have been justified, and/or to have closed the thread to further posts, also justified.

But to delete or restrict the entire thread from view, is, in my opinion, going a little over the top.

Please consider re-showing that thread, with the OP's post edited, and the thread closed to further posts.

Thanks

wtf .. and now there was a spammer in just this very thread

CHICKEN - you're being a jerk now.
Corny and NED told you what happened - it deserved to be deleted -and that made all the 'remarks" of no further value-- so who cares? -and the user was probably deleted also -- and it is disturbing that you would even know that your particular post was #393 - because they are not numbered in the "list". Now go sharpen a pencil or something

P.S. tell me something? while you were posting a reply (#393) to that thread, did you also hit REPORT POST - and Report the Rat Bastard for posting someone's phone number?

^ I'm not at all arguing against the deletion of the phone number - it was rightly deleted.

What I'm saying is that you, me and six or seven others made replies to that thread, some humorous, some serious - but nevertheless opinions, that should be seen and heard.

So the mods could have edited the OP's post, closed the thread to further replies, and left the opinions of everyone else intact.

Why bother, I hear you ask?

So that JUB members' posts and opinions are not routinely erased because of the misdeeds of the OP of the thread.

On your other points....

I suspected the post might go, so I glanced at the post number. That's the only reason I remember it - I assure you, I'm not taking notes of my post numbers and remembering every single one.

And on reporting posts, I'm just not the sort of personality to deliberately land other people in trouble, so I will tend not to report people.

Hopefully, that clarifies my intentions.

gee, thanks..
I was a bit more realistic. the thread was certainly not a "hot topic' of any kind - and it was in violation of the CoC so it goes in the dumpster. That's the way it should be.

Everyone here does deliberately need to land abusers/offenders in trouble so that we will be able to keep the forums we have. The mods can't see everything (certainly not in real time) and the Report Post function is there to alert them to possible misconduct. I guess if you saw someone hold a gun to someone's ribs and take their wallet, you wouldn't call the police? that's great.

One last thing - if you respond to a post - and there is some contention -between two users, and then there is "quoting" of previous posts in order to respond - and it accelerates into a bitch fight - and the offender's posts get deleted -- generally everything that is connected to those posts is deleted along with it -- even from others who may have quoted sections of all the crap that started the "fight" -- point is -- it happens all the time -- it's nothing I'm gonna be worrying about -- but I'll surely remember post #393..

Leaving spam threads = helping the spammer.

Gee, if CAPS is Yelling, what is 16pt RED lower case? oh, i know, whispering in his ear..

really? i hadn't noticed.

^ and ^^

!oops!

Yes, Corny, you guessed it - I skimmed quickly through your post without actually registering what you said.

OK - I hold my hands up.

Mea Culpa.

I apologise.
