A few days ago, Ulf Ekberg took part in Menorca Tech Talk and played three of the new songs from Ace Of Base's new album for the people. So, being the YouTube-minded society that we are, of course someone uploaded a video. Try to ignore the drunk people attempting to dance.

The first 14 seconds feature Let It Play (On The Radio), which is the band's first single and will be released to European radio in July. The rest of the video features various snippets of a song called Black Sea. This is the first new original music we've heard from the band in eight years.

This is also the first music anyone has heard from Ace Of Base in their new line-up. Linn Berggren left the band officially in 2007 after a decade of steadily removing herself from the spotlight. Jenny Berggren left last year after the band attempted to move on as a trio and were repeatedly rejected by record labels who demanded a fourth member. The other two members, Jonas Berggren and Ulf Ekberg, wanted to recruit one, Jenny didn't. So, she chose not to continue working with the band. Jonas and Ulf then recruited two new vocalists and decided to carry on with Ace Of Base. One of the new vocalists, Clara Hagman, appeared on Swedish Idol last year. All we know about the other one is that she's named Julia.

Sounds pretty cool to me! Can't wait to hear the full songs! ... I think "All that she wants" was one of the first songs I ever bought when I was like 12 or so.

The sad thing is...someone on here is bound to say "they're copying Gaga".

That's really funny, but probably true. "I can't believe Ace Of Base ripped off Alejandro with their new song!"

It's funny...for years, Ace Of Base was looked down on in the music industry. Now suddenly, they're all the rage with artists and producers who are citing them as influences. Lady Gaga herself said that she wrote Alejandro as an homage to them and all of the other Swedish pop artists who pioneered this style of music. I've been a fan of Ace Of Base since I was eight years old and it's nice to see them finally getting the respect they've always deserved. Of course their music is fun and simple and even shallow at times, but they opened the doors for Europop to become mainstream in the US during the 90s. When they first came out here, their sound was really fresh and exciting and if it wasn't for them, I really think we may never have seen people like Britney Spears who emerged in their wake.

We have our first promo picture! It's an early one, so it's not very professional-looking, but at least we see what they're going for:

A full song has leaked. It was released on some DJ sampler CD. I need to stress that this is NOT a single and may not even appear on the new album. It's just a song they sent to DJs to get reaction.

It's called Mr. Replay. It features some unknown rapper. Actually, the rapper sings most of the song (and never actually raps...) and the band sings the chorus. To me, the song screams b-side. I hope it's not on the album. Surely, they have stronger songs.

Yeah probably so, since Gaga is heavily influenced by Ace of Base. Also, the similarities will come even more because Ace of Base worked with Gaga's main producer RedOne. So.. lol It all comes together, it all makes sense.

From now on, they're going to write their name as .Ace.Of.Base. most likely for legal reasons. The pronunciation of the name will not change.

I am gonna have an open mind to the songs when they come out. I liked their first CD a lot in 1992. I was 19 than and they were huge. Than I hated beautiful life and another single they had I hated also. They had a remix of "wheel of fortune" in 2009 that was pretty good. The blond guy still looks pretty sexy.
