Hey Guys, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE compact crossover has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest.
I'm interested because it's not a bad looking vehicle. The styling makes the vehicle look smaller that it really is.

Looks aside, how much would you pay for a compact crossover?
My friend MotoMan should definitely avoid caffeine in all its forms - or stop reading car stickers online!

Get ready for some sticker shock:

Meh, no thanks. Looks like a brick on wheels. SUVs all look pretty much the same to me.

Is that a heavy metal bumper bar in front of the crushable front panel?

I thought bumper bars had fallen put of fashion.

That's what I thought but its just an aluminum trim piece. The AMG front face is better looking in my opinion.
None of these vehicles are cheap but when MotoMan read from the window sticker, I just about fell out of my chair! Dealers only carry fully loaded cars in inventory, no base versions except special order.

Some of the most awful looking vehicles are SUV's and crossovers.

Compare the new Toyota RAV4 with an Imperial Storm Trooper:

Gosh. . .I miss the days of the Chevy Monte Carlo, Mercury Cougar, Oldsmobile Cutlass and the Pontiac Grand Prix :gogirl:

Yeah, you and me both!

No words can convey the experience of walking to and from school surrounded by cars, the likes of which we will never see again.

I've learned my lesson with expensive automobiles. I'm not impressed anymore. I like my Volvo.

I miss cars like this, they looked 'peaceful'

When I was a little boy 1955 Buicks were everywhere. I saw more Buicks than Chevys.
For all their size those old Buicks were tranquil looking.

Remember what MotoMan asked near the video end, "what happens to all this high-tech when the warranty expires?".
Out of warranty repairs could bankrupt owners of average means. A compact crossover for $97,000.00 - I must be living in crazy world!

The reliability for most M-B products has failed miserably (Consumer Reports) yet the price keeps going up and up. Not the prestige brand they used to be.

In my opinion, Chrysler has destroyed any value associated with the name Mercedes Benz.

They opted to mass produce cheap and unreliable versions that they could sell for less -- and, well, any reason people could use to justify the cost (i.e. cost per year of ownership) no longer exist.

What a shame.

And a whole new chapter in the used car market is beginning.
Never before have so many brands, filled with onboard electronic systems, entered the five year countdown to the used car lot.

The era of cheap, second-hand transportation may be coming to an end.
In 2025 would you be willing to buy a 2019 Mercedes full of aging computer driving components ready to go haywire , anytime and anywhere?

So true, in 1969 I grossed $80.00 per week and bought a 10 year old Ford for $75.00, it had about 80,000 miles on it. Most adults today have to finance a 10 year old car.

Used to work on my old cars, from brakes to tune-ups.
I've seen new cars where I can't find the dipstick. Do cars still have dipsticks?

^^the day's of the shade tree mechanic have gone the same way as those Pontiacs, Mercurys and Edsels :rotflmao:

Believe it or not, no. Neither my bimmer nor my Volvo have dip sticks. You just push a button on the display. I hate it.
