The new "last post wins" thread...

I bought a package of Jaffa Cakes. Yeah, maybe if I buy again it will be Winter. They sort of melted together. They taste GREAT!!! Just like you said.

I have a jar of Vegemite and now a jar of Marmite on my kitchen counter. They taste almost the same, Marmite uses more grains than Vegemite. Marmite is perhaps a tiny bit sweeter. Or maybe it's an amount of salt thing. I haven't decided yet.

But the thing is, is that it's Summer here so I have the t-stat set at 80f. The Vegemite spreads fine. The Marmite is not quite exactly runny, just a bit thicker than mayonnaise, and it dribbles threads from the knife all over the jar and the counter. Like warmed honey.

Good stuff. Just messy. But when it's Winter here and the t-stat is set at 70f. I bet it will be fine.

Ok. I'm done.

That's unfortunate. Like any other chocolate product, they need to be kept cool.

I recently used a packet of cherry-flavoured Jaffa cakes as the sponge base for a trifle along with tinned cherries and cherry-flavoured jelly. I used cherry brandy rather than sherry as the booze ingredient. Delicious, even if the chocolate leeched out into the jelly. That was the heat again.

Marmite is definitely thicker and is harder to spread. I normally eat it on hot buttered toast and use the knife to apply spots of Marmite rather than spread it evenly.

Sainsbury's (a UK supermarket chain) sells own brand Marmite which it calls Yeast Extract for less money. It's darker than Marmite, runnier and tastes a little different. I managed to get through half a jar before I threw it out and went back to the real thing.

My mum used to make "gravy" for the dogs with a spoonful of Marmite dissolved in hot water. She poured it over their dog biscuits to soften them up. They loved it, but they were pretty undiscerning and seemed to love just about everything!
