The Newsroom on HBO

This thread sounds just like the older women down at the coffee shop, gossipping about the latest soap opera.

What does it have to do with politics? Does someone really think it's going to affect the elections?

Dev's gf's reaction was realistic.

***SPOILERISH

I'm thinking that guy with Charlie in the previews talking about illegal taping will lead to Leona becoming an American Rupert Murcoch with the phone hacking scandal. Maybe Will or Charlie will blackmail Leona to keep working??

I agree Chance the thread is fine where it is, after all, it does address the recent past, & I have a feeling we'll be in current events soon anyhow.

the "coming soon" stuff looks much grittier - the idea that Will could be fired for taking on the Koch Bros., Tea Party plus
the Sam Waterson character is so good isn't he?
the deep throat character intro was very cool this week

It looks like fun, Chance. enjoying it more that TRUE BLOOD lately, that's for sure.

Wonder who the Deep Throat character is in relation to Leona. Side hote, do you think Sorkin named Jane's character after La Helmsley, to accent her bitchiness?

I love Waterston's Charlie. Always liked Sam as an actor, but his McCoy in L&O had become Johnnie One Note. This character keeps us on our toes, we never know what he'll do or say, & that makes for a great character for a great actor to work with

Charlie's blow up at Olivia Munn after the Japanese thingy was classic - both of them were so dead on - was rooting for both sides

Sam's role is a real step up from his "save our national parks" radio spots ;)

Helmsley has to be a shot :)

Not a True Blood-er - my friends make fun of me because I've never gotten into it and they all love it

I thought Will's "I'm wasted" was classic :)

Will got the the pot head scene straight (!!) on. Been there, got the T shirt!

I'm glad to see Sam away from hawking on TV too. Kept seeing his Bank Ameritrade or whatever it was ad. Between him & Regis/Kelly shilling for that bank, & Alec Baldwin for the credit card.....:##:

Tough episode - for me in that there was so much going on

short version:

ratings are slipping
Will is in jeopardy if he doesn't pick up the #s - Casey Anthony story MUST be a focus
everyone has an opinion
they are hosting a Repub debate - and Will/Charlie are comfy with "trading" covering Casey story to keep the debate
Will gives an exclusive interview story to the guy who Emily Mortimer cheated on him with
Leona is setting up Will
Charlie (Sam W) meets with Deep Throat - good character

It's like it's a completely different show - as the characters are now developed and have ........ morphed - hehe
still don't care for the sorta love/hate story with cutie Jim and the annoying blonde staffer
this is a 2 part episode btw
there should be a great Republican debate thing next week
the olivia munn character wants time to do the debt ceiling story but gets pushed back - she's soooooooo good at making her case - she should be in CE+P - she's hot (for a woman)
Will seems depressed the whole episode - his shrink is awesome btw - great character
anthony wiener story comes up
charlie meets with leona and advises her against firing will - great fucking scene
much more going on but i will leave for others to fill in some blanks

I love Jane Fonda in this part. She's a great actress in that, although we know she's the polar opposite of Leona, she's so damn believable. Comes by it naturally, since I remember being flabberegasted by Henry Fonda's villainy in ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA. He made a quite wonderful bad guy. I think it was the only time he played one.

Hoping to see Reese fall flat on his ass. And more Jane/Sam W please!!

The Mag/Jim/Sam (or whatever their names) storyline was so irritating and pathetic all along this season... really hope we're done with this shit next year, who needs such cheesy cliché 3way romance when the show has enough material to keep us watching?
Loved the actor who plays McKenzy's ex, handsome !

I saw my first episode the other day. It was fantastic! I can't wait to buy it on DVD

Finally, the thread is where it belongs.

Goldenmoth , you're gonna love it. I thought episode 3 was amazing.
