The disorder was on both sides, though. Business emails with "my pronouns are" was a little too much. Gay publications have abandoned any discussion of gay rights and instead have just turned into a weird combination of antiviral ads and men in dresses. The backlash was predictable.

On the other side, it is the worst of cynical politics. It's the same shit Karl Rove tried to pull with the gay marriage issue back in 2004 (never mind that Rove's father came out as gay after Karl's parents divorced). It's no surprise that the Roy Cohn acolyte is willing to use LGBT people and trans kids as pawns in order to keep his felonious ass out of prison. Like everything else, they'll just move on to the next group of people to exploit to rile up the mob.

Immigrants (brown ones) and LGBTQ people are the gift that keeps on giving.

We've seen it for decades. They are the two issues that the right uses most effectively to enable them to dismantle inclusive democracy and transfer all the power in the country to a cabal of super rich families who imagine themselves to be the real heart and soul of the slave owner republic they believe the founders envisioned.

The backlash is always apparently inevitable when the religious right and the fascists gain power. Look at how Germany went from being a permissive and progressive fairly liberal society in the early 1930's to gassing and incarcerating/enslaving Jews, homosexuals and other 'undesirables.

What I know from 2024, is that Americans are not that far away from following down this path.

None of this is the fault of trans people, who for the most part would like to get on with their lives but feel the need for legitimacy....no different than the homos in the 60's onward. It is always the other side though that cannot fucking leave it alone. That do the name calling and the de-humanizing and erasure of anyone they don't understand or hate because of the stream of poison being poured into their ears at every turn to distract them from the real reasons their lives aren't perfect.

Gays didn't push for trying to reach kids in elementary schools, or pushing graphic sexual books on kids. Most people will never accept this for young children, including many Gay people.
 
Never fucking happened. No. They didn't. Just misinformation and lack of context...propogated by the extremists.

I've mentioned this before... a decade ago, I was working with teenagers on another forum and they were already talking about "trans" issues. It was fully integrated into their concept of what it meant to be LGBT. They knew people their age (and younger) who were genderqueer and non-binary. The idea that adults imposed these ideas on them would disregard their interactions with their trans peers and with other people on the internet.

This is an area where I am still, a decade later, still learning and trying to understand. The younger generation is way ahead of us on trans issues.

He missed the point. The kids in college and high school are used to having non-binary kids in their peer group. Absent evangelical programming, they don't think it strange or bizarre

It's still a very small percentage and the American public is spending way too much time worrying about it. The studies say that about 0.5% to 1% of adults identify as non-binary but in the under 18 years old group, that number increases to between 1.5% to 3%. It's unclear whether that is something that teens will outgrow with age or whether it's an indication that the general acceptance of non-binary peers is allowing more kids to opt to express their gender in a non-binary way.

GC means Gender Critical. Gender stereotypes is precisely what gender-critical people have always fought against.

Transgenderism is the height of gender conformity, actually. The Mermaids website actually used a "gender spectrum" on which gender identity was explained as Barbie for girls and GI Joe for boys. Mermaids is an organisation that transitioned thousands of children based on their gender non-conformity. Many grew up to regret it, most of them found out they were simply gay.

Not the ones I meet, though admittedly I haven't lived in the USA since I was a kid myself. But over here in Europe and East Asia most teens sound like this one, particularly in her last sentence:

I am not qualified in anyway to have an opinion on transgender issues.

That said, for me personally I avoid doing anything that's permanent. Why? Because I know I change my mind quite often. My taste in clothing has changed so much over the last 30 years. My taste in everything in life has changed so many times over the last 30 years.

Hence, I don't have any tattoo. Never had any surgery. Got a few scars that are somewhat permanent because I was a dumbass from time to time. The only thing that's been consistent throughout my life seem to be my love for men. And even that I'm open to change. Hasn't happened yet. But I'm open to it.
