Sonny,I agree totally.If you're a New York Mets fan,rooting for the Phillies
against the Yankees....the club that's your biggest current rival, even bigger than the previously despised Atlanta Braves because they are geographically so much closer, the club whose fans rub our nose in the dirt (not Scrub....she's a good Phillies fan(*8*):kiss:but the rest of them:mad:)saying how superior they are, then you are not a real New York baseball fan.Someone at work who's a huge Mets fan is pulling for the Phillies because he says he can't stand the Yankees.I told him,"Wtf,how can you ever root for the Phillies? It's like the baseball version of being a traitor!":##:

Don't get it myself.

I knew you would be with me on this. ;)

Being a true Red Sox Fan,I'll usually route for any team against New York.If that included the Phillies, count me in
Well Brad,I knew you weren't going to be leading any parades for the Yankees.;)With the rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees,no way.Don't think Yankee fans were happy seeing the WS go to Boston in 2004 and 2007:p

It would really rock New York's apples if it went to the Phillies on 2009
I'm not underestimating the Phils, that's for sure.It would be a big letdown, though I think with the Phils already coming off of their championship in 2008,the Yanks will get a one time pass by the media and fans. They do expect another championship soon, however and there are a lot of older players on the Yanks squad....they've got to phase in a new generation, from a mix of within, trades and a few more judicious free agent signings.

I'm convinced Boston will still be a big player for the foreseeable future, though they may have to retool in several key areas on offense.David Ortiz is on the way out, even with his better second half.Don't know if they want to retain Bay,Lowell is getting up there...Varitek is unfortunately done and JD Drew's only an adequate, serviceable player now in right...and who's at shortstop?

Though they have some great top of the order home grown guys in Ellsbury,Pedroia, and Youkilis.

Now why am I analyzing the Red Sox all of a sudden?

Go Phillies (!) (!)

Go Phillies
(!) (!)

1 down :D

I totaly get that Brad, I would prolly feel the same way.
Sox fans rooting for the Phiilles just seems right but Mets fans...not so much

I think maybe you are reeling from last nights Yankee loss.
Lee was outstanding totaly dominated the Yanks with his spiked curveball, fooled them with his changeup and that nasty fastball of his. Was it me, did I miss something or did he not give up any walks last night
Then there was that Johnny Damon popup to the mound, how much fun was he havin anyways grabbin that ball like that.

Tonight should be a different story with Pedro on the mound. He is a right handed fly ball pitcher and should be no match against that Yankee line up.

Yeah i know he beat up the Dodgers pretty good but they are a young team that swung at everything, the Yankees won't do that.

Should be all tied up going to philadelphia on Saturday.

Hey Scrub, I knew I could count on seeing dancing bananas today

Pffft, Yankees fans weren't the only ones that were livid! ;)

Agreed. ..|

*sigh*

I might as well concede right now. I am officially rooting for the Phillies *shudder* to win this World Series. Gotta go with my National League! ..|

But also, I understand where you guys were saying Mets fans hate the Yankees so much they want the Phillies to win??!? Talk about batshit crazy!

you couldn't start singing "New York,New York" soon enough!:p

Go Phillies (!) (!)

We're tied!1-1!Screw the merely dancing bananas....we're bringing in the in your face, moonwalking variety!

Cliff Lee was awesome....but had a little too much fun Wednesday night. While Pedro was okay, sonny called it right as he gave up those home runs to Teixeira and Matsui.AJ Burnett was everything the Yankees expected him to be in this kind of setting, finally, when they signed him to help CC Sabathia anchor the toip of the rotation.A disappointment at times, into the playoffs...but paid off big tonight. And Mariano going two innings, without much fuss and slamming the door shut against the maybe prematurely giddy Phillies.

Just wish I didn't have to work tonight:(....missed the game but checked updates on my cell phone and watched some of the highlights after I got home.

We're going to Philadelphia and all bets are off the table!:gogirl:

That was a changeup to teixeira and a curveball at the knees to Matsui, two pitches I am sure Pedro would love to have back. By the way, Pedro was excellent yesterday, just not excellent enough. Although at first I was impressed by his going into the seventh and throwing 100+ pitches, but clearly he stayed to long at the dance. Man oh man the Yankee fans sure let him have it when he came out of the game. I felt bad for Pedro getting all that Yankee fan “love” I get why they did it but what they may not remember or even know, Pedro is Pedro, he says and does things like that “daddy” remark all the time it is part of what makes him Pedro. If you love and respect him, as me and many Mets fans do, you understand him and would never boo him like that. He is one of the all time greats and deserves more respect.

Great to see Teixeira bust out, but now what is up with A-Rod? He sure picked a bad time to go cold.
Wake up kid we need you to earn that 33 Mill now.

AJ Burnett was outstanding and defiantly the Phillies daddy yesterday.
A mess of first pitch strikes (those Phills were desperate to win that game) and a nasty breaking ball.

I also loved the way Girardi managed the game, I had complained about his over managing in the playoffs but last night he was perfect. Manuals on the other hand totally fucked up by leaving Pedro in to long and he paid for that mistake. Waas a matter Charlie, scared of your pen??

Derek Jetter received the 2009 Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to a major league player who combines community service with excellence on the field. Many forget how much good work Derek along with Wright do outside of baseball. This award is well deserved.

Watching theses two games have proved one thing for sure. This year the two best teams in baseball are going at it in the World Series.

So day off today and then it’s Pettitte and Hamels in Philadelphia I can hardly wait.

If the clusterfuck of rain that we've gotten in the past two days is headed towards Philly (which it is) I could almost guarantee the game tomorrow is going to be rained out :(

First game ratings were the best in years, like 20 million viewers...a great big market matchup like Yankees vs Philllies certainly seems to have baseball fans excited.Great to see the national pastime scoring strong ratings that will only get better if it remains a tight, tense, competitive battle.

Really wish I could have watched last night's game live....Pedro should have been re-signed by the Mets,he's still one of the great competitors and still has good enough stuff and know how to really help a staff like he's been with the Phillies.I think his heart wanted never to leave New York, and the "Who's your Daddy" chants don't take away from the fact Pedro loves to pitch, loves the atmosphere, loves to stand out more colorfully than most. But he deserves the respect and admiration for his tenacity after the injuries to still do what's necessary for him to keep pitching at a high level.I'm with you sonny that nobody should ever take Pedro for granted...if he were a Yankee,God the fans would adore him.Just wishing the Met organization didn't underestimate him, didn't give Pedro enough respect to go out in good faith and try to keep him.

I'm not going to jump too much on A-Rod,Yankees wouldn't have gotten to the WS without his tremendous clutch contributions in the first two rounds.I think that he will start hitting but others like Teixeira and Matsui will give him some needed support as they have during the season. It's rare for someone to carry a club on his shoulders for so long, though it's great to have someone like A-Rod who can provide those stretches of domination.

The Phillies ya know have been battling a troublesome bullpen problem of their own!;)

Derek deserves the award,he along with our David and a number of major leaguers definitely give of themselves to the community. Not only great players but most importantly great people.

Yep....two great teams and matchups that make for a terrific World Series!..|

Hope that's not the case:(

Go Phillies - WTF I will root for the Mets if they play the Yankees. Hate the Yankees!! GO PHILS TONIGHT!!
