** The Official 2011 MLB Thread! **

NA, it's all good hon (*8*)

We antagonize and rib each other all the time in this thread.

For example - I hate pond scum.

And the Nationals beat us today for the first game of a double header after Westbrook imploded. But we come back to win the second game tonight.

I'll take a split any day of the week! :)
If by pond scum you're looking New York Mets way;)...well,right now we're not even good enough to classify in the same subspecies as pond scum.True pond scum would be insulted!

We just can't play smart baseball....we outhit the Disastros 12 to 3 but they beat us 4-3.Angel Pagan tried to score on a passed ball but though he be the throw he could not find it in himself to get ANY of the plate. Then in the eighth Josh Thole botches a bunt horribly hitting it right to the pitcher and Jose Reyes who had singled gets caught leaning too far off first and easily got doubled off.Find a different way to lose almost every time.....that's got to count for something!#-o

I swear being a Mets fan requires one to be a sadomasochist...like Charlie Brown who gets assurances from Lucy that he'll finally be able to kick that football....and sure as clockwork as he revs up for the kick Lucy pulls the ball back.Charlie then lands right on his tailbone.....yet he falls for it time, cause surely one day he will kick that ball.Surely one day the Mets will be serious contenders again ?:(Then again,it could be worse. We could be Cubs fans:eek:or hell Pittsburgh Pirates or Kansas City Royal fans who every year deal with clubs, despite pocketing a ton from revenue sharing seem to keep their budgets skimpy and their expectations non-existent.

Wow Saucy, pond scum? really why don't you tell us how you really feel about the Mets.
Seriuosly sometimes for a Mets fan you sure can be critical, perhaps we need that kind of kick-in-the ass from time to time I am guilty of doing it myself but I always add the positive as well.
....I'm just sayin

A really high note last night was to see Daniel Murphy look so comfortable at second making some very nice turns on the double play, his hard work is paying off. Then to top it off with that two run homer was just the cherry on the cake. I have been a Murphy fan for a while now have followed his career closely, no one on that team works harder than he does.

I have to clarify something I read the other day that was that Murphy and Collins had a “Heated argument “ in the dugout after Daniel pulled that blunder trying to steal third on a ball that was hit in front of him.
THAT DID NOT HAPPEN, Murphy and Collins had a discussion about it but there was no arguing or shouting going on. In fact the discussion did not even happen in the dugout it was in the tunnel. Daniel understood it was a boneheaded move and admitted it. Collins who is a big Murphy fan coached him on it discussion over. The only disagreement they had was the next night when Murph asked to pinch hit late in the game and Collins refused to let him go up against the lefty. There were some words but nothing hot. As a matter of fact last night Collins decided to let Murph bat against a lefty he rewarded him by hitting a single. I just need to clear the air about that in case someone you read that false report, there is no bad blood between Murph and Collins NONE.

Maybe I can use this to swing some pity sex from Abs.

Is it still pity sex if both parties are willing participants?

And thank you Lohse for your performance today! :=D: I'll take a 5-0 shut out versus the Nasties...

:D

Also, if you would've told me before the season started, while still VERY early (chin up, Mets fans!) that we'd be tied with Cincinnati at this point, I would have laughed all the way....to a tie for first place. :)

Boston is 2-2 against the Angels so far. Not only is Boston slowly coming back from the hole they dug out for themselves, but the Angels have made it easy with boneheaded plays the past couple of days.

The AL East race is going to come down to the wire.

^Unfortunately ;) better if it was just Rays at 1st with the Yankees 6 games behind and Red Sox 10 games (from 1st place Rays) behind; but we Tampa Bay fans love a good showdown with Boston and New York.

Now the Yanks are up by half a game!

P.S. Please tell me I'm dreaming...did the Rays really get beaten by Javier Vasquez?!

We just rolled our eyes, I said "Not again, I thought they fixed this [lack of hitting] already this year."

I know it's the Interleague* and all but it's just bad right now, and had been slumping, noticeably starting with the 2nd game of the Yankees series.

On the bright note, the Lightning won. :D

*Which I agree with Joe Maddon that it needs to go, Tampa-Miami series' is not like NYC or Chicago.

Your post sounds like posts I've seen on all three of the forum pages of the Rays, Red Sox and Yankees forums at one time or another this season.
All three of these teams can get hot and then cold without warning, have been making stupid errors that have cost them games (the ones Boston made last night were doozies) and kick the behinds of great pitchers and make garbage ones look like Cy Young Award winners.
Like I said, it WILL be down to the wire in the AL East between the big three. Toronto is also a threat but Baltimore...will stay in the basement, like they do every year.

Nationals are two games above .500 this late in a season. (!)

with a new manager to be named soon.

I believe it's has been decided that Davy Johnson will move from his position as senior adviser to manager. Is it official?

looks like it will be Davey Johnson as the Nationals manager. But, that's just for the remainder of this season. Then Nationals will look for his replacement for next season.

The interim manager John McLaren, will be leaving the team also. So the Nationals will have to find a replacement for Bench Coach.

It is so unusual for a team that is playing so well to make changes like that;
the Nats are playing better now than I can ever remember
Davey will manage starting tonight in LA against the Dodgers which is team he last managed in 2000.

Riggleman comes out looking like the bad guy in this at the end.
IMO, he quit on his team.

Derek Jeter got 3,000 hits and was five for five today. You couldn't have scripted it any better.

Damn I had to work today....would certainly have watched it if I was able to.Wow,it doesn't get any better...5 for 5,a home run for number 3,000,a Yankee win which I'm sure team guy Derek is was the most important thing, that he contributed greatly to this victory. He may not show it nearly as much the past couple of years but this game represents the passionate player and winner burning still inside him.First Yankee ever to 3,000 hits...with three more years on his contract, lot more hits yet....don't believe he's finished...he'll still put up solid numbers because he has that desire not to coast on his achievements.I believe that, and even though I'm a devoted Mets fan one cannot ever take away the proud Yankee tradition he is an important part of.
Well done and in the tradition of the famed Bleacher Creatures a hearty
D-e-r-e-k J-e-t-e-r!:=D::=D::=D:

Congrats to Derek Jeter, even though he hit that home run against my team and we lost that game too. Had to happen sooner later in that long series.

I'm also glad that the Rays' players acknowledged this accomplishments as well! One of only two to have the 3,000th hit as a home run.

From the SunSports' (the Rays' broadcaster) POV at least, the cameras went back and forth between Jeter (already back in the dugout) and a smiling former Yankee, Johnny Damon against the rails. Seemed like the ending to a feel-good sports movie at that moment lol. :D

ROFL..the best team Evah just got knocked out of the playoffs!

ROFL..the best team Evah just got knocked out of the playoffs!

Whew! what a wild card night I was thrilled to see that at last perhaps some of the pressure of what happened to the Mets in 2009 and 2010 can be forgotten by the two monumental collapses by the Red Sox and Braves.
Of course I take particular pleasure in seeing the Braves go down in flames, that team and their chanting chop chop fans can go suck it now.:p

Abs, if you are seeing this, congrats and continued good luck the rest of the way.

thank god boston got taken out. i want a wildcard world series!!
