** The Official 2011 MLB Thread! **

Considering where I live, that was a wild night!! History for us is right now, not a hundred years ago!!

LET'S.. GO.. RAYS!!!!

:D

Sonny, while I also dislike the Braves, I do wish The Phillies were playing them instead of the Cards.

I just have to hope they do better then they did 2 weeks ago against them.

I hear you hon, it would be hard to imagine after the awesome year the Phills have had to be taken out in the wild card. It always a dicey situation this time of year when a team like the Phillies who absolutely should and deserve to be in the WS can be taken down now. And it will get worse next year If Major League Baseball alters the way we play the postseason, if they do and I am pretty sure they will, for next season there will be a second wild-card team in each league, forcing a wild-card team to win four rounds of play, rather than three, to win the World Series I’m just not comfortable with that. I have had discussion after discussion about this with ball players and a few media people I know and most of em feel it will be good for baseball…well maybe so but I just can not get comfortable with a team to win100+ games in a season only to be crushed after a couple of games in the wild card. Another point is if you think about it that this year should be the last as we know it, where the wild-card team really isn't at all that much of a disadvantage in postseason play. Actually, the wild-card qualifiers often have had the advantage of playing several, or many as in the Cards case, quasi (almost) playoff games just to reach the playoffs, thus riding at least a measure of momentum.
I’m not sayin I disapprove of the wild card but every year I seem more and more bugged by it and nest year it is gonna get worse.

Lastly, I want to remind you sweetheart that I am not a Philly hater, you can’t call yourself a true baseball fan and not respect that increable team and what they have accomplished. The Braves however in spite of playing a decent season this year just bug me to no end. And I was thrilled to see them “chopped” down. Even among the Mets and Philadelphia veteran payers there are strong personal relationships. The Braves, well….not so much.

As a Yankee fan..I am beyond ticked at MLB. Instead of doing the smar thting and playing when the weather wouldn't be crappy, both teams have to suffer through two rainouts now. URRGHHH!!!

Did the rains only come at night or was the whole day a washout? MLB made up their minds anyways on the scheduling just hours after they clinched the playoffs. I'll more likely see the Rays sweep the World Series before the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies play a postseason game that begins and ends before sunset.

Of course they do, MLB only wants the teams that can bring in the ratings/money.
Hehe, I read on the paper today, not even the Tigers-Yankees game could beat Monday Night Football. So their ratings scheme failed on that night at least. Despite the fact that the Yankees have fans far and wide.

There there Mark and Derek maybe you can still join the Mets ;)

As a life-long Red Sox fan, I am thrilled at the Yankees demise. ;)

Ya gotta love the wild card…..I guess. Unless of course you are a Phillies or Yankees fan anyways

So here we have it the two best teams in the AL and NL respectably are not going to the World Series, so how bout that. I have to send a hug out to my dear sweet Scrub who has to be feeling a bit down right about now. Listen babe, the Phillies played an outstanding season and you have nothing to be ashamed of, but I’m guessin you don’t keep a squirrel as a pet ;)
My best fiend in all the world Russell a kid I grew up with all my life and is a devout *choke*Yankees *choke* fan. I just don’t have the heart to raze him about the loss it was just to painful or him, but once again it was a team that played great baseball but that wild and crazy wild card did them in. Oh, and a dude names A-Rod may have had a little something to do with it as well.

As to the Cardinals I have to send a shout out to my boy Cory (absolut) I know he is feeling pretty good about his team, best of luck going all the way kid, off to a good start last night. Again with that pesky squirrel I wonder if now the folks in St Louis instead of saying Go Crazy Folks! Are now saying Go Nutz!;)

It should have been a Yankees/Phillies World series to be sure but as a Mets fan at least I can sit back and reflect on the season and think, ya know we did pretty well.
At least we were spared any collapse or chokes this year :D

Kind of funny you say that, as a Yankee fan the biggest collaspe in MLB history with the Soxs this year made my season!

The two teams that everyone expected to go to the world series blew it! The Yankees were kind of the underdogs this year and atleast we got to the post season compared to a certain Boston team lol :)

I'm a Detroit Tigers person who is late to this discussion. Games #01 and #02 of the 2011 AL Championship Series against Texas Rangers were winnable; but the offense from Detroit wasn't there. Game #03, which I avoided watching because of negative feeling (but have on DVR; and I have checked out later innings), was encouraging. But Game #04 will be more important. Starts in just under one hour.

It's funny to see Yankees and underdogs in the same sentence, in this day and age. :rotflmao:
Even funnier ... The baseball experts were falling all over themselves in March convincing us that the WS would be a battle between the Boston Red Sox (a roster loaded with hitting at every position) and the Philadelphia Phillies (a starting pitching staff that can't lose). The conclusion being that 13 teams in the AL and 15 teams in the AL are all huge underdogs.

True fans of every team know that baseball games are decided on the field and not in reports filed by writers prior to Opening Day.

I dono where Abs is but he has got to thrilled at what the Cards are doing, nice work by the pen
I'm liking the idea of a Cards/Rangers WS with the Cards takin it, NL ya know ;)
Ya gotta give it to the Rangers yesterday with some very risky strategy, Tigers blew it

Congrats to the Texas Rangers who clinched the American League pennant.

Now it up to St Louis to take down the Brewers today and get to the World Series.
Not to worry that the Cards will be in Milwaukee today cause the home field advantage does not help the Brewers against the Cards who play very well in that park. Speaking of Home field advantage if the Cards win tonight the first WS game will be played in St. Louis on Wednesday

Cory (abs) (*8*) I hope you are reading this I want so much for your cards to win today and then move on to win the WS.

Go Cards!

Expanded playoffs have made any and all predictions moot. It's all about who gets hot or stays hot.

How about Pujols last night? I'm pulling so hard for the Cards right now!

Truly Historic had to be the defining game of his monster career, I thinkin maybe the greatest hitting performance in World Series history. Big Al launched three long homers, drove in six runs and finished with five hits and that means he tied Series records with each accomplishment
I am so on board with the Cards to win it all

Hey Abs, I know you are out there

I'm rooting for the Rangers all the way. And while Pujols performance will no doubt go down as one of the greatest in World Series history, to say it's the greatest is subject to debate.
