** The Official 2011 MLB Thread! **

while Pujols performance will no doubt go down as one of the greatest in World Series history, to say it's the greatest is subject to debate.

Maybe so but you would probably have to go all the way back to Babe Ruth to match what Al did

So now the Cards have to win the nest two to win which of course they are capable of doing, but even if the Cards loose I still give them a lot of credit for coming back from being 10 and a half games out just 6 weeks ago to where they are now which is pretty darn good. :=D:

The six RBI part was done just two years ago. As for the Cards, they do deserve props but it was all made possible by the fact the Braves choked.

I wouldn't be upset if either team won but St.Louis coming back twice and finally winning on David Freese's dramatic solo monster blast 10-9....wow!We're getting a seven game WS for the first time in almost a decade....what a Series so far, neither team quitting when they were down.St.Louis went through a historic route to the Series coming out of seemingly nowhere after injuries and disappointing play marred the first half of their season.Atlanta still doesn't know what hit them and it may well be that this year's St.Louis club is a team of destiny.Abs has said that the Cards winning the 2006 WS was the greatest thing in his life.If this year's Cards win,I'm certain that for him and many other Cards fans, this ride will be most fondly remembered as it should. Both Texas and St.Louis are captivating stories, and it will be sad to have to say goodbye to baseball for 2011 tomorrow night. But when everyone gets a magnificent show like this,a rousing, edge of your seat baseballpalooza, that's the "ABSOLUT "best way for a season to end.I love this game!!!!!:D

Sonny,Abs must be over the moon tonight!:DCongratulations to the world champion St.Louis Cardinals, team of destiny, after their 6-2 game seven win over the Texas Rangers !What an exhilirating ride the Cards gave us..,coming from injuries and disappointment early on and through much of the season to an incredible finish that in historic fashion overtook the Braves for the NL wild card. These Redbirds are one of those teams of destiny, finding and willing themselves to victory no matter the odds. And what performances by third baseman David Freese,WS MVP and raised in the Greater St.Louis area....what a story to help lay a big part in bringing the championship in his hometown and Lance Berkman, career looking like it was on the serious decline before this season performs so well this season and amazingly in this Series, helping take some of the burden off of Albert Pujols.Texas and St.Louis took us to seven games for the first time since 2002,gave us a thrillling WS that peaked in Game 6 with that game for the ages,11 inning Cardinal win,10-9.

This is the way a baseball season should end, though a baseball fan never truly wants to say goodbye to a season, especially one that ended as incredibly, with nail biting playoff battles in the last days of the regular season and now all this....I LOVE baseball!!!(!)

The Texas Rangers are on their way to being the Buffalo Bills of baseball..

Where's sonny and Abs on this?I mean, what a game 6...then what a historic victory for the Cards in game 7.....nothing?Just sad that there's no more baseball to be played until February now,but what an incredible way to end the season! The best part was the local kid David Freese who's now a lifetime icon in St.Louis for his heroics on Thursday night to help get em the WS victory...he actually quit playing baseball for a year after a stellar high school career after losing his love of playing the game.Working as a custodian at his old high school he was cleaning the gym one day and looked up and noticed the championship banners he helped win as a player and everything came back to him.Look where he is now.....guess this had to be a team of destiny after all!;)

After winning a second World Series with the St.Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa retires after a long and very successful managerial career.....Pitts
burgh,Oakland, for the last decade in St.Louis.You can't leave the game with a better legacy after the World Series classic won by the Cards in seven thrilling games over the Texas Rangers.Good luck in your future endeavors and well done,Tony!:=D::=D:

My one friend who is a Rangers fan is still having a hard time.
The closest feeling I have is 01 but I don't think even that is as painful as being one strike away twice only to lose.

Holy how-the-hell did that happen Batman; Albert Pujols has agreed to a 10-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels for between $250-260 million, the deal includes a full no-trade clause.
Here we were wondering about the Marlins but it looks like the Angels were that ‘mystery team’ we were hearing about. Lot of Cards fans are in a fetal position about this time. Abs, are you ok?

Not only do the Angels get Pujols, but they sign CJ Wilson as well, truly making them a force to be reckoned with in the AL West and really all of baseball. A real shift in the balance of power in the AL. Feel bad for Cards fans, but they did just win a World Series. Perhaps LaRussa saw this coming and that's why he retired following the Series.

The Cards should have extended Pujols when they had the chance and never let him get to free agency.

The loss to Mets fans with Jose Reyes pales in comparison to what happened with
Cardinal fans and Albert Pujols. Syam makes a good point I wonder if winning the WS makes this a little bit easier I hope so even if only just a little

I wonder where the outrage is over the Marlins and Angels trying to "buy" a championship?

if history is any judge the Marlins will have a fire-sale of free-agents the following year.

I think it's total bullshit what the Marlins are doing. They're clearly just trying to blow their wad on free agents while they still can.

They know that once the SEC investigation culminates, they'll be cash-strapped again, so they're front-loading all of their spending.

I loathe that team.

If people want to see a championship that was truly bought, look at the 1997 World Series. The owner of the Marlins at the time blew up his bank account to get the best team money could buy and then gutted his team right after that. The 03 Marlins at least had people from their farm system or trades that helped them in that championship.
The 01 Diamondbacks could fit into the 97 Marlins mold as well. But at least they have fans who care. The Marlins won two world Series in six years and their fan base simply doesn't give a crap.

Especally from the now irrelvant Dodgers in LA and the concern the Yankees have in NY

Yup and I can totally see Reyes going to the Yankees whn Jetter retires

The Dodgers won't be down for long once they get a new owner and neither will the Yankees.
I don't have a problem with teams spending money to improve their teams.
I do have a problem that when the Yankees do it,it's trying to buy a championship, plus the other teams like the ones I mentioned above not getting called out on it.

Joe Torre has resigned as Major League Baseball’s executive vice president for baseball operations to join a group trying to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Of course Torre managed the Dodgers from 2008-10, then retired and joined MLB last February as a top aide to Commissioner Bud Selig.
Sounds good to me I am sure Joe willl get the support of his bff Selig.

In the end though...Frank McCourt is going to be the one calling the shots on who he sells it to,not Selig.

Dave Duncan intends to step aside as Cardinals pitching coach in order to deal with personal matters related to his wife's battle against cancer.

The Cards are expected to announce this weekend Duncan's intention to relinquish his position.
Dave was pitching coach with the Cardinals since October 1995 and within the major leagues since 1982, which makes him the longest-tenured pitching coach in baseball history.

Duncan will probably stay on with the club in another capacity, but recently decided that his commitment to his wifes treatment would prevent him from devoting the time necessary to do that demanding job

Cards fans will miss Dave a class act and absolutly one of the best
