The Official ADELE mega-thread

Re: Adele

"21" is stunning, I waited until midnight last Tuesday to download it. "Someone like You" is a simply stunning song!

Re: Adele

watched her "Live on Letterman" concert this morning....absolutely fantastic and she is just precious...her laugh is contagious...haha

Re: Adele

I have to say "21" is one of those albums I like more the more I listen to it.
I read that Adele has tied the Beatles record of two albums AND two singles in the British Top Ten at the same time. Then I noticed today that "21" and "19" are both in the Top Ten albums on the U.S. iTunes chart, and "Rolling in the Deep" is #5 on the Singles Chart. That's quite an accomplishment!
Today "Set Fire To The Rain" is the song in my head:

Re: Adele

I'm seriously in love with this woman. She deserves to be well known and appreciated for her talent. I loved 19, but when I got '21' and started listening to it, I was floored. She really is a true artist. She makes all of those auto tunes singers looks like crap. When you can touch someone with your voice and make them feel so many deep emotions, thats when you know that you truly have a gift. You can really feel every word she's singing.

Re: Adele

I've never really been a big fan of this style of music, until I heard High Contrast's drum and bass remix of Adele's 'Hometown Glory'.

After hearing the remix I straight away looked up the original version. I was blown away, she really is a true talent. I don't hear much about her in Australia (though that could be because I don't pay much attention to mainstream music [I'm not trying to be pretentious and act all 'underground', I just don't listen to it]), but it's great to see she's gaining the recognition she deserves.

Re: Adele

I first fell in love with her on ytube a few years ago singing a Burt Bacharach song accompanied by him.she looked very plain but had a voice I loved. She was obviously a major artist then But I'd never heard of her. Ytube pulled the clip for whatever reasons, has anyone got access to it please???

Re: Adele

I too am enamored with Adele. Like many of you have said she is a true artist and I have watched a few interviews she did and she is very down to earth which makes me love her more and more. I generally dont like acoustic versions of songs but I love it!!!!

Re: Adele

I love this woman's voice and loving her new album. Rolling In the Deep is my favorite though...must have let it play on repeat at least 50 times now >.<

Re: Adele

She is absolutely fantastic. I am in Love with her. The only thing that sucks is the techno remix of Rolling in The Deep at the gay clubs.

Song doesn't work that way guys! Come on

Adele's '21' Sells Over 350k to Top Billboard 200

Adele storms in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with her sophomore album "21" selling a mighty 352,000 copies in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It's her best sales week -- and highest charting album -- and also the highest frame for any album since the sales week ending Nov. 28, 2010. That's when Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" started in the Nos. 1 and 2 slots, respectively, with 496,000 and 375,000.

Notably, "21" also bows atop the Digital Albums chart with 217,000 downloads -- 62% of the set's overall first week. Again, it's the fattest week for a digital set since West's "My Beautiful" moved 224,000 downloads in its premiere.

Adele, who took home the best new artist Grammy award in 2009, reached No. 10 with her debut set "19." It has spent a total of 71 weeks on the tally and has shifted 948,000 copies in the U.S. This week, it bounds 50-16 on the Billboard 200, giving the singer a pair of albums in the top 20. It's the first time an act has placed their first two releases concurrently in the top 20 since Justin Bieber did it on June 5, 2010 with "My World" and "My World 2.0."

This week, "Rolling In the Deep" -- "21's" first single -- vaults 13-7 on the Digital Songs chart, moving 151,000 (up 26%). To date, since its release to retailers on Nov. 30 of last year, it has sold 621,000.

Another "21" song, "Someone Like You," which she has been performing to great reaction on a number of TV shows lately, bows at No. 45 with 51,000. Adele memorably sung "Someone Like You" on the Brit Awards on Feb. 16 and in two weeks' time, its two clips with the most views on YouTube have racked up 3.3 million views. (To compare, Rihanna also performed on the Brits, singing a medley of songs from her "Loud" album and its most-viewed clips have tallied 1.3 million views.)

Prior to the album's release, Adele stopped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (Feb. 24), "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (Feb. 24), CBS' "Early Show" (Feb. 25) and "Chelsea Lately" (Feb. 28). The official video for "Rolling In the Deep" has picked up over 16 million views on YouTube and Vevo.

Adele Holds Atop Billboard 200

Adele's "21" stands firm at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a second week, moving 168,000 copies (down 52%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.

With a little over 520,000 sold in two weeks, "21" has swiftly become the year's best selling album -- and the only set to shift more than a half-million units thus far. It started last week at No. 1 with 352,000 -- immediately ranking it as the year's second biggest seller behind Mumford & Sons' "Sigh No More." With another 168,000 this week, "21" jumps ahead of "Sigh" by 74,000.

Re: Adele

And a cute little story she told...

Adele feels like US President

Thursday, 27 January 2011

Adele has teased that she felt like “Whitney Houston meets Obama” when she travelled via police escort.

The 22-year-old British songstress received vast international acclaim for her debut album, 19, and she is currently flying high in the charts with her second studio album, 21, which was released in the UK earlier this week.

Adele has been busy promoting the record across the globe, and last night had to rush back from France to her native London, England, where she was due to appear on BBC radio this morning. The star made it back in time, and found the whole thing very exciting, joking that she felt like a cross between US President Barack Obama and 47-year-old music icon Whitney Houston – in a nod to Whitney’s role in 1992 film The Bodyguard as an in-demand pop star.

“I was in Paris and had to get the last train. We got a police escort from Paris - proper convoy. I felt like Whitney Houston meets Obama,” she laughed once she had made it into the London studios of BBC Radio One.

The star admitted she is thrilled with the reception her second album has had so far, and says the success she has achieved leaves her flabbergasted. Adele isn’t sure which songs from the album will emerge as favourites yet, and is eager to find out which ones her fans like best.

“I don’t know where it’s come from,” she mused. “I don’t know what other people’s favourites are.”
