The Official American Music Awards 2009 thread!

I thought the AMA's was a disaster...majority of the performers sucked...

Janet Jackson - dancing was good, vocals were weak.

Daughtry - very boring...it wasn't as good as his previous songs.

Shakira - the dancing part was ok, I didn't like the song at all.

Keith Urban - another generic bland performance. His butt was mesmerizing though.

Kelly Clarkson - love her vocals, hate the arrangement.

Jay-Z ft. Alicia Keys - Alicia keys was the only reason I even watched that performance.

The BEP - Didn't like the Meet Me Halfway part it was all over the place and Fergie didn't sound good that night. The Boom boom part was better, I like how they included some Nirvana.

Rihanna - she's trying to hard...she needs to go watch some more Grace Jones and learn how to do it right.

Carrie Underwood - it was just an ok performance.

Lady GaGa - imo the best of the night. She danced, gave a performance, gave drama, gave fashion, and sang her ass off with a piano.

Mary J Blige - Mary J is mary J

Jennifer Lopez - It was a good performance, yes she fall on her big butt, but she recovered pretty fast.

Whitney Houston - ugh, mixed feelings...her voice is still there, sometimes she runs out of breath...then she'll start babling...but I think it's still possible for her to sing like before.

Alicia Keys - I love AKeys, just don't like this song...

Eminem ft. 50 cent - eminem is eminem, he's great live...50 cent was a mess... the performance could do without him TBH.

Timbaland ft. Nelly Furtado and Sosha - great song! great collaboration and whoever that Sosha woman is, I like her.

Green Day - don't care for this song...

Adam Lambert - I already said this to one of the thread... it was a "HOT MESS!" Omg what in Gay Hell was he thinking. That was way over the top, way forced...for me it wasn't shocking at all...more on embarrasing.

...except, she can't command the audience much anymore. They're actually just waiting for something to happen.

Too bad not much did.

All Whitney has to do is walk on the stage and she will get a Standing Ovation. She can definitely command an audience.
YOU were expecting something to happen and nothing did in your opinion. But to those live witnessing the performance liked it and gave her a standing ovation so something did happen just not what you wanted.

Whitney was a Vision of Beauty..The voice was weak in several areas but she gave all she had...She earned that award with her successful track-record....Now let's get ready to see how many GRAMMY nods will come her way...

I actually think Whitney was holding back. And not to mention her nerves probably played a part in constricting her voice some. When you're slightly nervous, you can't give it your all like you want to or are able to. But she still gave an awesome performance. Voice was strong and showcased the power she is still capable of bringing out.

Kudos to the AMA's for opting out of a "Host" this year...The acceptance speeches were longer and they had time to squeeze in more performances...

I agree. I liked the no-host show. They should keep it like that.

Right. Whitney commands a stage/audience like no other. Her stage presence is simply off the chain. :gogirl:

:lol: :=D:

Where is Digicel? I'd like to here his take on the performance by "the Grammy award winning multi-platinum selling world wide global super star Rihanna."

So the Whitney fans thought Whitney nailed it, the Rihanna fans thought Rihanna brought it, and the Janet fans think the Janet proved to the world that she's the one. OK.

My one wish is that this many people watched and talked about a show that involved artists actually doing good performances of good songs.

Lex

Oh wow. Well, not everyone is a diplomat. I LOVED Janet, GaGa, Kelly, and Alicia the most, while I liked Shakira, Whitney, Mary, J.Lo, Rihanna, and BEP. Everyone else was hardly memorable (Daughtry, Keith, Carrie, Jay Z, Green Day, Timbaland) or over-the-top awful (Eminem, Adam).

All Janet needed to work on was her wardrobe, set design, and better song choice.

Yeah Whitney was nervous...Whitney doesnt know what her voice is going to do when she hits the stage. Whitney struggled with her notes on Sunday night. The sad part is the voice that we heard Sunday night is Whitney at her best & that's not necessarily a good thing....It's not easy watching her struggle....She worked her Lower-register with everything she had...

"Classic" Whitney is not returning and I've accepted that...That doesnt mean I'm going to accept mediocre to horrible performances from Whitney..

I feel Whitney should follow Mariah's lead and Lip-sync to pre-recorded vocal tracks when she tours...Whitney should not even attempt to sing "I Look to you" on the road if her Live-vocals sound anything like that performance she gave on GMA...
