The Official Aretha Franklin Thread

Re: Damnnnnnnnnnnn Aretha Franklin!

Wow.

I mean, the woman is a legend and still has a voice that'll sound so sweet you'll slap your mama. But, damn.

Did you see her on the Grammy's ? I don't think there is enough lemon chiffon in all of the Tampa Bay area to recreate that dress she was wearing....

I'm not saying she's big, but her ass has it's own zip code.

I'm not saying those breastizies are huge, but they have their own congressman...

(ok, I'm done...)

Re: Damnnnnnnnnnnn Aretha Franklin!

I'm watching her accept the Vanguard award on the NAACP Image Awards Show....

She needed two men to help her out of her front row seat and onto the stage.... Kinda sad, really....

I'm amazed she wears dress with no sleeves... not a real pretty sight.

Still, ya gotta love her....

Re: Why Aretha Why!?

I could not see the picture but I must agree with you, she must get her fashion advise from her worst enemy. At the Grammys she look ridiculous, who told her it is alright for such a large person to wear banana yellow? Her arms looked like they had buttcheeks or their own and then she was holding that big scarf that made her look even bigger. I love her, but please, dress like a woman your size and your age.

My first "official thread"..Why not start with my favorite of all time!!

Background information:

Aretha Louis Franklin "The Queen of Soul"
Born:3-25-1942 in Memphis,TN,raised in Detroit,MI
Occupations:Singer, songwriter, pianist and occasional actress.
First Lp: Songs of Faith (Chess Records 1956)
Influenced by:Clara Ward,Sam Cooke,Dinah Washington,James Cleveland and C.L. Franklin.

Aretha Franklin or "Lady Soul" as fans call her has had one of the most enduring careers in music history. She is one of most awarded females in Grammy history. Franklin is the most charted female on the Billboard HOT 100 with 75 entries and is 3rd overall. She has the record for the most #1 R&B hits with 20 and most #1 R&B albums of any female artist with 10. She has the most million selling single of any female singer with 14 singles selling over a million copies. First women inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1985, then-Gov. James Blanchard of Michigan declared her voice a "natural resource".

That's just part of her amazing career.....

Onto the reason that made me want to start this thread

In 1972 Aretha went back to her roots and recorded the ground breaking double Lp Amazing Grace that went on to become the biggest selling gospel Lp with well over 2 million copies sold as of 1992. The two nights,January 14 & 15 were captured by famed director the late Sydney Pollack. This footage sat for decades in Warner Bros vaults and now will finally be release later in 2010. I figure this would be a great way to start a thread on Re.....

Here is the trailer of Amazing Grace
