Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

That's lovely that you are black and can look past it. A lot of black people including some of my friends do not share your beliefs.

And if you can separate gameplay from Steven's racism, why not separate bitchiness from gameplay? The "uncool" people didn't rally against Brian because they didn't like his outfit. They did it because he was trying to manipulate them and get rid of them. And the root of their problem with Angie is they think she is against them, and she in fact is. She decided she liked Brian and wanted him to stay way before they started talk shit about her.

The only person I dislike is Steven. I don't blame anyone for his actions but him. so my Big Brother is not being ruined, especially since he is very limited on the broadcast show. By your logic people that hate Libra, April, Michelle are ruining their big brother experience.
Hmm, their bitchiness is more widespread than Steven's racism, and even then, I just don't like them. Libra is more bitchy and gossipy than anyone else in the house. Michelle is just uber annoying and soooo paranoid. So is April. Keesha I am slightly ok with, but hey whatever. Jerry I can't stand at ALL. Ollie, I don't really think about. He is just floating at the moment, so I can't really comment on him yet. Jessie and Memphis are hot, and I like them, so I don't actually hate them.

And it's nice you only hate Steven, and it isn't ruining your Big Brother experience, but you sure are ruining everyone elses Big Brother experience by constantly bringing it up. I would like to ignore it, but it is annoying. It has nothing to do with gameplay, it really has nothing to do with the show at all. We have acknowledge he is "racist" we have talked about it, we moved on. Then you come back and bring it back up. And yet again we are getting pulled into another meaningless discussion.

Thank God SoapSkank isn't distracted by annoying banter.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

What it all boils down to is what level of racial insensitivity you deem to label someone "racist" I don't like the term when it's use to describe people. It's very vague and often used to lump people into whole groups.
Oh please, everything is racist these days.

In high school, I was in a group that was very diverse. It was me, the black guy, we had several asians, a white guy, a hispanic guy. We had indian friends blah blah. All we did all day was make fun of racial stereotypes. I guess that is why I don't care as much as you do, because I am desensitized to it.

No one got offended, we all laughed, we all moved on. But I am sure this will be shocking to some older person and will be offended that such racial talk is still going on in our schools.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I agree that it doesn't make Steven a horrible person, but FalconFan, I still think you're too easily conflating "race" and "physical appearance" when race is about so much more than just that.

All that aside though, I finally saw the episode and I'm off the Brian bandwagon. Still love Angie, but Brian totally overplayed himself in an arrogant, stupid way and I'm almost impressed with the other yahoos for putting things together and orchestrating his ouster so efficiently.

I understand what you're saying. I do. But I think what it has to do with is history and morality. There is clearly a deeper American history of prejudice based on skin color than any other physical trait. As such we are more sensitive to it and much more likely to notice it.

But that history doesn't make it any more or less morally incorrect to judge a person based on any other physical trait. It doesn't. There's a far longer reaching global history of anti-semitism than prejudice against other races. That doesn't mean that anti-semitism is worse than hating blacks, Asians, British, French or any other race. Prejudice is prejudice. Wrong is wrong. I don't care what physical trait it's based on it. If you're judging the content of someone's character based on a physical trait you're acting amorally.

As I've stated when it regards race or skin color it's more likely to indicate a deeper sentiment because of the history of race relations which is why there's a perception that these judgements are worse teh assumption they stem from something deeper.

Haha he's definitely not ruining mine. This is like BB6 to the millionth power, even though this year's Nerd Herd has the numbers right now, and the "cool people" (thanks for the name, aji! ^_~) are more than likely screwed, it's still insanely entertaining to watch how crazy they are!

If anything aji amuses me, he seems to try SO hard to convince people to like the Nerd Herd it's endearing! I do hope Steven, Angie, or Dan wins HoH tongiht, if not them then Memphis. I want to see how much aji squirms. =D

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Well I would hope I'm not ruining anyone else's big Brother experience. That is not my intention. We should be able to say whatever we want. Ive said i really cant support someone who i think is racist. Just like in BB9, I never wanted Ryan to win after he said that no interracial relationships bullshit. If everyone else can ignore it that's fine but I cant. Ill try not to mention what he said from before for now. But I'm sure everyone's golden boy Steven will say or do something else.

It's no different than everyone else calling Libra and April a bitch every 2 seconds. And interpreting everything they do in the game as being mean and negative.

For example when Michelle talked to Keesha after her (unnecessary) blowup they were called fake bitches for just trying to get control of her vote (which they dont even need since they have numbers without her) but when Angie went to tallk to her people said she was just being nice cause she's just a better person.

it's ok to mention it, and we did have a conversation about it. but we had so moved on that i was wondering why you had to suddenly bring it back up. if steven does say something racist again, you have ever right to bring it up again, but it hasnt happened. I just want the discussion to go with the flow of the show.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I say we should just all trying to police what other people post. Race relations are now and probably always will be a touchy subject so some people just like to ignore them. That doesn't mean that anyone here has to ignore them and it doesn't mean anyone here has to acknowledge them.

Wouldn't It Be Lovely If Soapskank Had His OWN Thread To Report All These Delicious Details Without Having To Scroll Past Page After Page Of Mundane And Totally Irrelevant Comments?

Comments I Might Add That Are Usually Made By The Same One Or Two People Who Seem To Find It Necessary To Dominate The BB Threads By Having To Offer An Opinion On Every Crossed "T" And Every Dotted "I"!

It's called a conversation.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

First of all 'colored' is an acceptable term. It is still the NAACP. That stands for, in case you didn't know, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

There is nothing wrong with the word colored. It is a way to describe black people. But there are a lot of other races that are colored as well.

So the next time was Negro. It isn't a slang term, it is a very accurate term to describe us, but I have no idea why that lost it's luster? Too close to Nigger I guess.

Now we are black. While we techincally aren't black, thats what we call ourselves name.

But if your so truely concerned about being seen as racist, just say African-American. While that is very innacurate seeing how most black people haven't been to Africa or lived in Africa in hundreds of years, it is the "en-vogue" and politically correct thing to say.

NOW, can we please turn back to big brother?

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

Eviction days are boring

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

^ Really i think theyre most exciting behind veto day and nom day. I love seeing the hamsters scramble for votes. It's even better with the new schedule that we have final nominees then eviction the very next day this year.

Thank you. Even though we have not agreed AT ALL. You are respectful and mature enough to give your opinion w/o getting personal and immature. People seem to forget this is a forum and we can discuss ANYTHING derived from the game and it's players. People should only be policing if i came in here talking about Real World or I love New york.

But they haven't been scrabbling. They all know it's a done deal.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

i'ma have a hard time watching todays episode with So You Think You Can Dance on at the same time.

Re: The Official "Big Brother 10" Discussion Threa

I still think something crazy is gonna happen. I think there is something up with 13 housemates. They have never had an odd number of housemates. And every season since 4 has had 14 housemates. Why wait until the 10th season to all of a sudden have an odd number? It makes no sense. And the fact that Julie has made no mention of it is highly suspicious.

I hope someone new comes in. I hope Brian doesnt stay. It would be bullshit because people have been working all week to get him out. I have nothing against him but that would be worse than when James stayed.

I hope the person who comes in is someone like Brian. Brian is very smart, and if he hadn't of played so hard so soon, he def would be fucking over everyone in the house. Then again, we prob wouldn't like Brian so much then.

Meh, he is still a hottie.
