CBS censors 'Big Brother' slurs

LOS ANGELES (AP) - It was the most memorable speech in "Big Brother" history, but fans didn't hear all of it.

Television viewers watching the "Big Brother 11" eviction episode Thursday only heard part of contestant Chima Simone's petition to stay on the voyeuristic CBS reality show.

Host Julie Chen later called it "the most memorable last plea speech we've ever heard."

But the audio cut out right as the 32-year-old freelance journalist referenced a derogatory term for people of Mexican descent that fellow nominee Braden Bacha, a 28-year-old model-actor, had used against two other contestants. Bacha's use of the term was also edited out.

Also censored was Simone saying that Bacha had used a sexually insulting word to describe host Chen, who also co-hosts "The Early Show."

Bacha was eliminated; Simone saved.

CBS said the statements were removed from the broadcast because they were offensive and did not meet the network's standards. Gay slurs slung by contestant Jeff Schroeder during an argument on Tuesday's episode were also left on the cutting room floor. The only place viewers could hear the heated words was on the show's live streaming Internet feed.

The network said in a statement Friday that "any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a houseguest appearing on 'Big Brother,' either on any live feed from the house or the broadcast, are those of the individuals speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program."

For 11 seasons, "Big Brother" has isolated contestants - or houseguests, as they're referred to on the show - from the outside world. They live under constant surveillance on a soundstage constructed to look like a house. Once a week, the contestants vote to evict each other in hopes of being the last houseguest standing and winning the $500,000 grand prize.

On Showtime 2's "Big Brother After Dark," an uncensored and unedited live broadcast of what's happening inside the house for three hours each night, Simone said the producers told her that her speech was censored. She also said she confronted producers about editing out the slurs.

"I said, I don't think it's fair because I don't think they showed when it first was said," Simone told her fellow houseguests during "Big Brother After Dark" following Thursday's live eviction episode on CBS. "And I was like, 'If someone's a racist, they should be portrayed as one. You shouldn't edit it to make them look good.'"

"Big Brother" has a history of contestants who spew controversial slurs. Ninth season winner Adam Jasinski was fired from the United Autism Foundation after using an offensive word to refer to autistic children. Eighth season contestant Amber Siyavus ignited a firestorm outside the "Big Brother" house when she said Jewish people tend to be "really money-hungry" and "selfish."

Oh shit I forgot people's ages. Chima looks more like she's in her late 20s and Braden looks more like he's in his 30s. His skin is so wrinkly and nasty.

CHIMA is tacky for calling Braden out on what he said (and even though she had every reason to try to save herself at that moment) but Braden isn't tacky (or worse) for making racist and sexist statements and in a place where everything is being broadcast for a live feed??? I'm sorry but I'm starting to see why aijalon loses his shit out on this board. That's absolutely ridiculous!

I'm gonna repeat my earlier plea since it fell on deaf ears:

PLEASE let's not have a ton of posts about how Chima shouldn't have said that on Live TV. You know what? You can't blame the girl for trying to stay in the House, and she did exactly the right thing! I'm always saying that people should use that time to actually try to sway votes, and she did just that. Good for her! I don't think it's why Ronnie voted the way he did, but she had every right to say it, and it actually made me like her more. Also, I know a few people here have argued that making biogted remarks doesn't make you 100% a bad person, and OK I'll go with that for the sake of argument. No, making bigoted remarks doesn't necessarily mean you're an all-round bad person, but it does mean you're a bigot! If you don't wanna be called a bigot then you know what? DON'T MAKE BIGOTED STATEMENTS. It's very easy. Braden deserved that, Chima had every right to say it, it made for some awesome TV, and I don't care one bit that he's gone. Kick rocks Braden!

Russell was talking to Jordan in the Diary Room saying he was sincere never had a problem with her I didnt here the whole convo cause I was writting the post above.

Natalie Runs to HOH room and goes to Jesse and tells him that Russell made a deal with Jordan and all this stuff. Natalie is now 100% against Russell and doesnt trust him.

Natalie: I don't care about Ronnie

and now I think Natalie is about to tell Ronnie and Lydia.


Ya know I like Russell and I do beileve hes beign sincere. But damn. Can you imagine if the Roids made a plan to backdoor Russell. hmmm

Jeff definitely isn't playing the best game. Never was. He pulls too much attention to himself.

I thought he was because the people that hated him the most and wanted him out. Where on His Team and he was friends/didnt have a problem with everyone else. And there are bigger targets on both sides than him that was at the time.

But now I realized that your right, his arguments and the people hes put against all think hes the leader or something

Wow I walked away for a minute and I missed a hell of a lot according to Jokers.

A) In the competition today Dan hosted and made fun of Jessie. As a result according to Jokers the HOH room (Jocks - Russel) were making fun of Dan.

Meanwhile the non-jocks were in the backyard talking about how obviously bitter Jessie is about loosing to Dan and how Dan made him look like a fool. They're also complaining because apparently Chima and Jessie started fighting with Laura and JOrdan in the middle of the challenge ? Sounds like something I have to see.

B) Apparently Russel and Jordan were in the storage room. Russel asked Jordan why she hates him and they had an honest mature discussion, Jordan saying it's the way Russel carries himself and he hangs out with Natalie and Chima who just make fun of her all the time....

Natalie was apparently listening and ran upstairs and told the whole HOH that he was making a deal with Jordan and they're all paranoid and stewing about how he's trying to build good will behind their backs (Maybe a Russel BD is possible if Laura or Jeff wins POV).

Now Casey's talking about Jen and how she was always mentioning how Daniele was unfaithful and no Laura's saying she want to get a jab in at Natalie about the same thing. Then Jeff said Jen only got picked on because she didn't have the numbers.

Then they start talking about how Jessie is gonna reap the benefits of Natalie doing all his dirty work.

WOW Jessie is correcting Natalie grammar... you know you're bad when Jessie's schooling you in English.
They're complaining because Russ apparently was also talking to Michele. Nat's saying that Casey called Russel out on having deals with everyone and that's why Rus wants Casey out. SHe says that she doesn't want Casey out.

But seconds ago Jess and Nat said they're going outside. They're gonna walk outside see Russel siting in the middle of the group (literally in the middle) and flip the shit out on him.

Laura's stressing to Russel that Ronnie NEEDS to go next week. She says she gaurentees he'll win if they don't get him out now.

EDIT: Michele just came out to join them Nat, Chima, and Kevin straggle behind him.

Chima immediately starts telling Natalie that she needs to wash her clothes.

Uh, remember Ivette? Natalie reminds me a lot of her. Ivette was totally a target early on but then bigger targets emerged and by the time they got around to her, the number of competitors was low and she was decent enough in the comps to win her way to the finals (also at some point no one wanted to evict her because they all thought they could win by taking her to the end, even Janelle thought this). I could see the same happening for Natalie but of course, I hope you're right.

Yeah make a very strong point... but she's putting herself in the line of fire where Russels trying to pull himself out.

I knew Russ was being sincere. And I'm starting to like him. I never did like him he was just on team douchebag. Atleast once my favs go home (Jeff, Jordan, Casey, etc.) I'll have someone to root for.

Laura seems to keep subtly suggesting that Ronnie's gotta go she keeps saying he's going to win... everyone's agreeing with her but no one other than her is saying it.

Now they're laughing saying Ronnie's probably an astronaut or an NFL player or something. Kevin says someone has to be a professional something because every claims to be making moderate salary. Casey saying Natalie is 25 LMAO so close

The sad thing is Russell (in some ways) is playing MUCH better than Natalie, Jessie, Jeff, Jordan and of course Ronnie, but it probably won't matter because Russell's alpha male type will always make him a bigger target. Natalie will still outlast him; in fact she'll probably be the last person evicted from the Athletes (if she's evicted at all).

Well I think he's actually going to get screwed by trying to play a more intelligent in a group that expects him to Nerd Herd it.

Jessie continues giving sage wisdom to Ronnie and assuring him that everyone still likes him and Jordan wouldn't want to hang out wiht Michele (Lydia clearly has forgotten two days ago when she complained about Michele and Jordan telling inappropriate stories)
