How did Jeff conduct himself as a gentleman? He completely ignored Michelle when she won POV and went up to him.

He ignored Kevin when he was stuck in the box to get more money.

Let's not forget his little speech the night he was evicted. Sure, it was probably what he should do as a last ditch effort, but hey, still not classy.

^Yea I actually agree. This sort of thinking can apply to women as well. It reminds me of Janelle's treatment of Erika.I lost most of my game respect for her for never giving Erika any credit for playing a hell of a game. And unlike Lydia she didnt have to lower herself to giving Boogie a handjob or a bj (Allison bb9 or Lydia) to get to the end.

But I think Jeff has a little resentment for Kevin because he is a "fag" as someone said. Somehow I dont think his reaction would have been the same if he was outplayed by a straight guy.


And i must disagree about Michelle. She is smart and can sometimes amke good decisions but she is quite inarticulate. She is so terrible at explaining herself that people think everything she says is a lied. she gets all nervous and jittery over the simplest questions.

Alpha players like Jeff always react disproportionately negative to players like Kevin who they perceive as "weaker" and who nevertheless managed to one-up them by relying on their superior intelligence.

These people are obviously so threatened by her because she's not as inarticulate and stupid as they are (minus Kevin).

There's a book on my shelf that I've been meaning to read for years that I've never gotten around to: Anti-Intellectualism in American Life by Richard Hofstadter. It's from the 50s, but Hofstadter's one of my favorites. Anyway, what strikes me most about people like Jeff and Natalie is their utter complacency. I'm not even sure they're threatened; when they encounter someone different, they're just "weird" or "strange," and that's that, no need to think further. The lack of reflexivity and intellectual curiosity in their thinking is so foreign to me I don't even know what to think.

No. I've read The American Political Tradition, which I loved for it's chapter on Calhoun, and his treatment of Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt. Also, his snarky comments on Cleveland and Hoover are not to be missed.

Incidentally, one of my best friends was an engineering major at Columbia, and Michelle completely reminds me of her.

I'm not really sure what you mean. When I think of, say, Foucault, Derrida, or Wittgenstein, "less uptight about language" is about the last way I'd describe them.

Speaking of Michelle again, I laughed out loud at her husband's rambling, disjointed commentary. Say what you will about Michelle, but she's the articulate one in that relationship. I loved his explanation of her memory, something like "it's part of her genetic makeup; it's never been fully explained," as if she had some bizarre and exotic malady.

I agree. Granted I haven't seen her on the feeds like everyone else has but from what I've seen I really think she comes off as incredibly sane when you put her in a house with Lydia, Russel and Chima and appears to be a beacon of intelligence in the midst of Jeff, Jordan, Natalie, and Jessie. I don't know I could imagine her having to suppress a lot of 'are you a fucking idiot' looks so maybe that's where the 'weird' comes in. I don't know. She seems just fine to me.

LMFAO. She's clearly the hot one too. I forgot to mention how disappointed I was in how unattractive her husband was. His head was just bizarrely shaped. I got disappointed by other things.

Remember the old line "truth is stranger than fiction"? The great advantage that liars have -- liars that know what they're doing, that is -- is that they have the luxury of fabricating a lie that is actually more plausible than reality. So when the truth comes out, people will still believe the lie, because it's just more likely.

Clearly, Natalie is not a liar of that caliber.

She has to have lost her ability to play in veto because if she didn't saying that she has would be proven to be a lie so soon. Because I read CBS has Evil Dick on a "gag" order in relation to BB11 until 9/10, I think Natalie might have talked to him.

I think J/M/K should all be trying to take Natalie to the final 2 because other than maybe Jessie who really would vote for her. The only real thing she has on is the "immunity" HOH. But I do give her credit because that Last Minute Lie to Jeff really saved her and Kevin. I just don't remember who really created it.

Don't listen to Nik. I'm not familiar with the Simpsons book, but I've looked through others in the series and they're not too bad -- the Daily Show one was pretty good, although it relied too heavily on Frankfurt's monograph On Bullshit. (But stay away from the South Park volume. Over half the essays were written by the editor, which is pathetic.)
