The Official "Big Brother 12" Discussion Thread!

There were not surprises this season pretty much. Everything went as planned and almost no one did any power moves. The best thing about the season for me was when Andrew called out Kristin and Hayden.

Oh, and Joesman, I agree with you about Matt. He was as blind to the Brigade as Ragan was to him.

I did like one development this season: having each HOH open Pandora's Box (once they started filling the jury anyway) -- especially if it becomes a staple in the future -- could solve the problem of competition throwing, which has always been a problem on this show ever since Will won BB2 and illuminated the inherent flaw in this game. If the producers install Pandora's Box as part of every HOH with the stipulation that some will be good (prizes), some will be very good (Diamond Veto or Coup d'etat power), and some will be bad (Jessie), it will motivate more people to try to win HOH on the off-chance that their tenure will yield a special power or special prize.

Allowing one (or more) of these boxes to contain a special power also functions in the same way as the Immunity Idol on Survivor, where players try to guess who may or may not have it, and that therefore affects strategy, nominations, attempted evictions etc. Plus unlike Survivor, this show is usually less suspenseful because of the feeds -- we usually know exactly who is going home before time -- and having the possibility of, say, two Diamond Vetoes being used per season, creates at least two suspenseful live shows. The most suspenseful episode this season was still the one where Matt backdoored Kathy because no one knew for sure who he was going to put up ahead of time. This is exactly what this show needs, especially after an otherwise dull season like this one.

I think it really does a lot for the game, and I hope the keep and improve on Pandora's Box in subsequent seasons.

CBS never talked about nor aired any mention of Lane winning the phone call home. Was it that boring?? Does any of the blogs know why?

Thought about the Favorite Houseguest prize that Brit Brit should win... is it fair to include people who aren't in sequester but have taken all summer off and have nothing better to do but sit around and vote (ie prejury evictees) in a poll they can vote in? I mean none of them stand half a chance but they really shouldn't be there.

Wow. I didn't think of that. They just might rack up their phone bills texting each dollar.

The fact that the Favorite Houseguest prize is currently between Brendan and Britney perfectly describes this whole season: only Brenchel* and Britney were truly entertaining.

*Although it is funny that even Brenchel fans choose Brendan over Rachel.

IHMO the most deserving jury member is Brendan (cue the I dont want him to share with Rachel b/c "she's the worst person to ever exist" moans). He worked hard and he is a little bit peculiar but decent guy who really put his heart into the game.

I heard Matt's wife in an interview and she actually seems like a nice person -- sweet, funny and self-deprecating. In other words, the polar opposite of Matt. She also clearly has no problem calling him on his bullshit, which is probably why she can stand being married to him.

She should give Brendan some pointers. He's gonna need them if he intends to stay with Rachel.

Did Matt's wife address her letter to Matt where she seemed to be helping to perpetuate the bone disease lie?

She did, she actually said that was NOT the full letter she sent. The letter she sent was multiple pages, and the producers edited it down to a page or two, simplifying and omitting crucial details so it sounded like she was corroborating the lie, when in fact, she was referring to something else entirely (specifically the fact that she and Matt had just moved into a new house and new neighborhood when he got on the show, so she was all alone). I'm not shocked. The BB producers do crap like this all the time. Her official statement is that she didn't know in advance that Matt was going to tell this lie and she wishes he hadn't.

Do you think she is trying to gather sympathy?

I'm guessing there is extraordinary pressure for Matt to donate his stipend to a charity for that disease. It's really the right thing to do.

I'm sure damage control is nothing new in her relationship with him. I am pretty skeptical about the death threats (I really wonder if there were multiples), along with the robbery and the cancer.

I definitely wouldnt put it past them to alter her letter for highest drama. It was worded in a really odd way. So it could have meant something else. BB producers are so shady. I was just reading some interview where Grodner recently said how BB is the "least manipulated" reality show. I guess she means that the same way Fox News calls itself "fair and balanced."

^^^^^ Grodner also said that they edit out all racial and homophobic slurs, like the one that made Braden look put upon when the 2 hgs got so furious over his racial and homphobic remarks, and made the hgs look like idiots.

Heh, so true. I think I read that interview with Grodner too. Have you noticed how she always seems to lack awareness about her own show in interviews? My favorite was when she (seemingly unawares) said, "Big Brother 8 with father and daughter, wow what a screenplay ending!" Like, um yeah, it certainly felt scripted...

Lane used the word Faggot today. OK...So I'm watching BB after dark and Hayden reads the label on the protein powder out loud. Hayden say's "Mega Men Energy". Lane is microwaving some pizza and starts rhyming with what Hayden said. Lane says "Saga men, Faggot men, maggot men". Hayden say's "You lost fans" and Lane says "Yea, I felt that". Enzo says "what happened?". Hayden says "He just lost fans. Lane says "I lost at least a thousand right there, thats how I play black jack, you loose some and you gain some.....But they know how I am...so". Enzo say's "I wouldn't say it". Lane starts back peddling and Enzo says "You said the F-Bomb, not me". Lane tries to recover by saying "I've got friends that are gay, so". Enzo says "I've got alot of friends that are gay, I actually hang out with gay people, I think they're hilarious, I would NEVER call them them the F-Bomb, It's not in my vocabulary. Like the N-word, I would never say that, it's how I was raised". Lane gets pissy and says "You saying I was raised wrong? Enzo trys calming him down and says "sometimes it just slips out and you can just be fucking around" Lane says "yea joking". Lane is visibly irritated at being schooled by Enzo.

He should know better than to say it on camera. Kudos to Hayden for calling him out on it. Kudos to Enzo for 'correcting' him.
