Madonna's "Holiday" 'vs' K.C.'s "Give It Up"
Madonna's "Holiday" peaked at No. 16 on February 4, 1984. Five weeks later, on March 17, that hunkie K.C. reached No. 18 with "Give It Up." Both songs averaged 20 weeks in the Hot 100.
I remember being a little boy at the time and loving both songs but thought they were possibly the same. And to this date I'm still amazed at how similar they both sound. Am I the only one who has noticed this almost 24 years later?!? Below: K.C.'s "Give It Up"

I thought KC's song was better, personally. Plus, KC's song actually predates the Madonna tune - it went #1 in the UK in August 1983, but KC was unable to find a label deal in the US. He had to put it out on his own. Surprising it did so well considering the lousy distribution it had.

As for Lady Madonna. Come on, the chick has had 36 top 10 hits. She's tied with Elvis Presley as the all-time champ. I say she can rap or try to rap or sing with a cucumber in her mouth or do whatever until she dies.

Oh, i didnt realize, i dont like Kc and the sunshine band either, never got into them, when my mom came to the US, she learned a lot of english from some of thier songs!!

Yeah, I gotta say this song bites turd.
I was really hoping to like it, but the lyrics sound like something I'd expect from a 9th grader trying to be "deep" and the tune is just annoying.
It's ok... every time she tries to go "ghetto" she falls flat on her face. Bedtime Story is regarded as among her worst and most forgettable albums and this one will be too.

It's full of wannabe hiphop loops that were sampled from the "Electronic Musician" CD that came with the magazine, the songs are a hodge-podge of crappy wannabe Spanish Harlem sing-alongs with that Take a Bow ballad that was tacked on for some odd reason and that Bjork song that is sung so painfully out of tune that it's hard to tell if she's flat or sharp.
Oh, and then that song where she chastizes people for rolling their eyes at Erotica.
Yes, it sold fine but it was her third stinker in a row (Breathless and Erotica were both under-performers comparred to her last three albums) and although it did have her first #1 hit for a while, it's also devoid of any lasting hits.

I am a huge madonna fan and have pretty much loved everything she has done and even if i first though 'hmm its ok but it will grow on me there is something about it such as American life etc' but this song is really poor you cant dance to it it dosnt get going this should not even be on the album let alone its lead single...If this song is anything to go by i am going to have to Force myself to buy the new album and pray it gets better.

One of the best nights of my life was staying up all night to go buy that book at 8AM before it sold out.
Then I got the book home, saw the dreadful photography and the poorly-mixed demo of Erotica and it took me a while to "get it."
That was a corporate copy of all the underground fetish magazines you'd find in head shops and independent gay book stores. Very cool if you understood what she was doing, but the photography really does bite. But I think it bites intentionally.
Vanilla Ice's wang doesn't appear.. in fact only one wang does and it belonged to some no-name model in a dog collar.
