Re: Deleted Tracks To Madonna's AMERICAN LIFE

Love Profusion is the stand out on the Album.

I am looking for the deleted songs from Ray of Light. I heard one of them, and it was so much better than American Life. It was Madonna covering ABBA's "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room".

Wow. Madonna - Stay (1981 version)

This is cool to hear, her demo recordings before she got signed to a record deal at warner bros. its always fun to hear some of your favorite idols earliest recordings..i actually prefer this version of stay, to the version we all know, on her like a virgin album!

Re: Wow. Madonna - Stay (1981 version)

I love it! Thank you for that. Only six more weeks to go till I see my girl at Madison Square Garden!

Re: Wow. Madonna - Stay (1981 version)

I liked it. I too think it's alittle better than the album version. Thank you!

Re: Wow. Madonna - Stay (1981 version)

I love her early stuff. i was a huge fan. I still listen to her a lot but haven't bought Hard candy yet. Her magic is through the 80's and early 90's. She got so "fancy" while filming Evita. Before than she was fun and so was her music and she didn't take herself so serious. I miss the other Madonna with her antics and different looks.

American Pie: Madonna VS Don Mclean

I prefer Madonna's Version. The original is slow.. and very redneck-sounding. Madonna's version makes it more alive and emotional!

Re: American Pie: Madonna VS Don Mclean

I can't even believe we're having this conversation. :)

First off, if you're going to do a comparison, at least do enough homework to find out who DID the original. To just toss it off and say "the original" is to show how little you care. I'm not even that big a fan of Don McLean. His original is an overly-long, obtuse take on the 1960s, which sort of obscures the basic song premise of the loss of innocence. But I think the core is still there, and it's a cool, interesting piece. (Bizarre production note - the song starts in mono, and gradually separates into stereo.)

Madonna's version is a dull, pointless, and soulless rehash. It's sung with little emotion, and even less feeling for what the song is about. (That is, unless Madge thought the song was about "having a hit single with a recognizable oldie". In which case, I guess she nailed it.) The only advantage of the remake over the original is that you can dance to it. But then again, I don't think the world really needed a version of "American Pie" to dance to.

The original wasn't actually that slow, other than the opening and ending - count the tempo if you gotta. And why shouldn't the song be "rednecky"? Listen to the chorus again. It's "them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye", not "my homosexual friends were drinking martinis and cosmopolitans." She and Mr Orbit took a song about going out to the country and getting drunk upon finding out your childhood heros died into substandard club fare. Perhaps that in and of itself is impressive, but it doesn't make the song any better.

I like Madonna. Hell, I even think that her original song on the Next Best Thing soundtrack was good. But this remake was lazy.

Re: American Pie: Madonna VS Don Mclean

I really like both. But Madonna's is not more emotional at all, I always thought she made the song a lot less emotional then orginal.

Re: American Pie: Madonna VS Don Mclean

I like both, but I prefer Don Mclean's version to Madonna's. His seems to have more soul in it. I think Madonna did a good job with it, but this is Don Mclean's song through and through.

Re: American Pie: Madonna VS Don Mclean

Don MacLean might seem to be the hick but he's the hick who produces very poetic songs (see also: Starry Night) and became the thorn in the side of intellectual songwriters.

Re: American Pie: Madonna VS Don Mclean

I'm not a fan of the original.

I thought Madonna's version was OK when I first heard it but now I really love it.

I like to think that Madonna really feels the first few lines of the song...
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to
make me smile
And I knew that if I had my chance
I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while

You're hilarious GLex, but spot on as well. I could not have said it any better, I really could not have said it any better.

Madonna's Hard Candy Getting Little Promotion

Why does it seem Hard Candy is not getting much promotion? Give It 2 Me Seems to have flopped as a single. I hope the next single does alot better.

Re: Madonna's Hard Candy Getting Little Promotion

Honestly, nobody involved seems interested.

The album itself sounded pro forma, something that I haven't been able to say about a Madonna album...hell, ever. It doesn't sound like she's that interested on it, or in it. The public (as usual) bought a ton of copies the first week, but then sales plummeted. Reviews weren't kind, and even fans didn't seem too excited about it after listening to it a few times. The singles haven't fared that well. Also, this is the last album Madonna's doing for Sire/Warner/WEA. It may behoove a label to push a less-than-stellar track/album to the public if they think it'll help maintain interest in the artists' career for their next (hopefully much better) album. But since this is the end of the line for Madonna and WEA, it's not really in WEA's best interest to spend a ton of money pushing the album.

Madonna don't care.
The label don't care.
The public don't care.

Let's see what happens now that Madonna is "free".
