Interscope needs to quit it with these shady promo deals.

From what /Ive heard and read in the past years,
Prince did it. So did Bon Jovi and Tom Petty. and Springsteen if i remember correctly.

honestly i have no problems with a CD-concert ticket bundle. I think the CD price is somewhat added to the ticket price () plus it makes a lot of business sense:
1) the songs in the new CD will feature prominently in the concert so better for concert goers to be familiar with them;

2) super A lister performers like Madonna, Bruce and Prince command a higher price than current pop favorites so to soften the "blow" of steep prices the CD is included though in the final analysis as a friend of mine who has worked in such a set up told me, the CD was already factored in the final ticket price though discounted (eg, regular CD is $15' if bought with the ticket the CD price is factored in as $10-11 something like that)

Madonna Makes HISTORY again!
Madonna‘s “MDNA” album had the biggest second week drop in chart history last week, I am told. When all the numbers are in on Tuesday night, “MDNA” will have fallen from number 1 by 88%–from 359,000 copies in its first week to roughly 46,000 the second week. Wow. The first week’s sales, as I revealed exclusively (and then the New York Post lifted it from us), most of Madonna’s first week sales were CDs that were included in the sale of concert tickets. That promotion artificially inflated Madonna’s numbers, putting her first before Lionel Richie and his “Tuskegee” album. In the second week, Richie fell only 47% and sold about 110,000 albums–which is normal. “Tuskegee” will now finish much higher than “MDNA.” I do think that all the people involved in the Madonna ticket-CD deal should apologize to Richie for denying him his rightful place at number 1, starting with Billboard and SoundScan. But Richie’s consolation is that he has a major hit, while “MDNA” is a total dud. So far, “MDNA” has not produced anything like a hit single either, no radio play or anything to provide organic promotion. But Madonna’s concert tour with Live Nation will be a big hit, so it’s not like we have to worry about her financial situation.

Madonna's MDNA: Behind The 'Eclectic' #1 Album
Producer Martin Solveig opens up to MTV News about working with the Queen of Pop on her latest chart-topping opus.

Madonna released her latest chart-topping album, MDNA, last week, and whatever special magic she cast in the studio seemed to work.

The dance-heavy album sits pretty at #1 this week, selling a whopping 359,000 units, proving that Madonna still is the Queen of Pop. The album is full of dirty and chugging production, with Madge lamenting about her broken heart on some songs and seeking vengeance against a former lover on others.

The album gets production assists from William Orbit, Benny Benassi and Martin Solveig, among others, but it's the contributions from those three that stand as the highlights. Both Solveig and Benassi had a hand in the album's first two singles, "Girl Gone Wild" (Benassi) and "Give Me All Your Luvin" (Solveig), while Orbit brings some emotional gravitas to the record, recalling their work on Ray of Light.

Solveig recently stopped by MTV News and opened up about creating the chart-topping album with Madonna. "We were working with no limits. I think the only thing that she said when we started was 'I just want people to be able to dance to my music and connect easily with my music,' and also probably to take some risks at some point," he explained. "Other than this, it was open to any kind of experimentation."

What Solveig wanted to focus on when it came to experimenting with her was rhythm. "This is why I explored mainly the BPM thing," he said, referring to the beats per minute of his tracks. "You have slow BPM, very fast BMP songs, twisty and more four to the floor, and I thought it was interesting to explore this, because she hasn't done that a lot on the past albums. And actually, William did a little of the same. It's very eclectic. Every song has a little story. It's a collection of songs that are very different, but you are excited to listen from beginning to end."

With a hit record on her hands, Madonna will have a moment to breathe before she kicks off her world tour later this year. The trek will begin May 29 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Madge will land Stateside August 28 in Philadelphia.

Does anyone know why Girl Gone Wild is stalling?
No promo. If she doesn't promote, no one besides us stans remembers she even exists. :(

Right now the single sits at 339 on US iTunes. :(

Report: Madonna's 'MDNA' Sets Record For Biggest Sales Drop

By Rolling Stone
April 10, 2012 12:35 PM ET

Madonna's new album MDNA is on track to set the record for the biggest second week sales drop in history, Forbes reports. According to Forbes' sources, sales of the album will drop by 88 percent, from 359,000 copies in its first week of release to around 46,000 in its second week in stores.

The album's first-week sales figures were reportedly inflated by CDs that were bundled with the purchase of some concert tickets for her upcoming tour. According to the Hollywood Reporter, 185,000 copies of MDNA were sold as part of the ticket package deal, meaning that only 179,000 copies count as individual album sales. Without these ticket package sales, MDNA would have placed at Number 2 on the charts behind Lionel Richie's Tuskegee, which moved 199,000 copies in that week.

The sales drop for MDNA can largely be attributed to a lack of chart traction for its two singles, "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and "Girl Gone Wild," and limited promotion by the singer. Though the singer performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, participated in a Q&A with Jimmy Fallon on Facebook and went on Twitter for a day, she has avoided major television appearances and live performances.

Madonna just doesn't give a shit about the singles chart anymore. If she didn't still need to make new albums as an excuse to on tour she probably wouldn't, because tours are the only music-related thing she cares about now.

IMO this was the worst thing about American Life flopping. She tried so hard to make that album happen and despite all of her attempts, it never did. But then she went on tour the next year and still raked in the money despite having a total flop of an album. Since then she's really never promoted the same way as she used to.

I mean she SORT OF tried with COADF at first but once she was out on tour again she stopped caring and "Get Together" and "Jump" were left out to dry with lame videos and no promo. For HC and MDNA she got her ass on tour even sooner and that's why those albums only had one single with any sort of promotional push. Now with MDNA the tour is even taking precedence over promoting the album itself. As a fan it's really FRUSTRATING but she's going to do whatever makes her the most money... sigh. At least GGW had a better video than Give it 2 Me and Sorry.

I know they tried to make an event out of the "exclusive" interview with Jimmy Fallon for Facebook, but I think that was a terrible idea. I think she said that would the only promotional appearance she would make for the CD.

With Madonna taking over as the record holder for the biggest drop in history, should Lady Gaga send her flowers?

The Pro: Now she can say that Madonna has the biggest drop for an album in Billboard history.

The Con: People are going to remember that even with all that promo, tv appearances, award show performances and transparent stunt moves it still fell 84 % while Madonna with almost Zero promo fell 88 % only a 4 % diff.

What to do what to do???

Thats so fucking true:mad: Knowing Madonna she will just pretend that the album is doing well and keep adding more dates to her tour.

Touring is where the money is anyways. I mean she did have the biggest selling tour in the world :D

If Gaga's this nobody that we all claim she is, a huge 2nd week drop should be expected. If Madonna's the Queen of Pop we claim she is, she shouldn't have to promote, after all, if the Queen took a dump it'd go #1 in 54 countries in preorders on iTunes with no promo.(*8*)

Madonna 'MDNA' is 'DOA': Total Sales Collapse as Amazon Drops Price to 5 Bucks

Madonna's “MDNA” album is dead. It’s really quite amazing. Amazon.com has dropped the price of downloading “MDNA” to five dollars. On iTunes, the only version of the album on the chart is the explicit one, selling for $14.99. It’s at number 46 on their chart. On hitsdailydouble.com, “MDNA” dropped to number 8 from number 1, with an 87% fall off from the previous week.

The amazon.com situation is much worse. As a physical CD, “MDNA” is just gone. The actual CD, explicit or regular (no curse words) is somewhere below 500 in music. This is the second week of release. The clean version — for $5 — is at #733. The dirty one, so to speak, is around 500. “MDNA” is just…gone. It’s a total sales collapse. It makes you wonder, what happened? Of course, Madonna has done very little publicity. And the inflated first week sales–reported here exclusively–are over now as the “bundling” with concert tickets is finished.

But wow. The deluxe version with a special booklet, for sale at $12.99, is showing up on amazon at number 5,706. Five thousand seven hundred and six.

So what did go wrong? The audience wasn’t interested in vituperative songs with the “f” word scattered through them liberally. Instead of dancing, Madonna was cursing. And what does she have to curse about? She’s a gazillionaire. She does whatever she wants, to whomever she wants, whenever she wants. No one stops her. Her charity in Africa was a bust, and the documentary she made about it was ridiculous. She continues to espouse the “philosophy” of the Kabbalah Center. She flaunts lovers half her age. She talks with a haughty accent. Last year, one of her brothers turned up homeless in Michigan. Madonna seemed not to care.

But even more important: those songs. They weren’t uplifting, and weren’t danceable. There’s no humor. Her competitor and successor, Lady Gaga, speaks to kids with hope and faith. And a beat. The kids could relate to it. Lady Gaga created a community. “MDNA” was like a foreign object from another planet.

What to do now: who knows? “MDNA” has turned into “DOA.”

Am I surprised? The great Madonna songs are still great. “Like a Prayer,” “Into the Groove,” “Causing a Commotion,” “Material Girl,” “Borderline”–they’re all still wonderful. Someone joked today that Madonna has to “go country” now–like Lionel Richie–and re-record all her hits with country stars. As if. But it might time for a tribute album, with younger artists performing her songs.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfr...es-collapse-as-amazon-drops-price-to-5-bucks/

Yes, what to do, what to do? :(

Is that article seriously blaming this on the audience not being interested in her cursing and other shit like Madonna not enabling her addict brother? They didn't hear the songs in the FIRST place because a big chunk of the public probably doesn't even know this album is out there. All thanks to Madonna not promoting. :/

Most of MDNA is not angry. How is "Turn Up the Radio" not uplifting? How is "I'm Addicted" not danceable? How do "I Don't Give A" and the video for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" not have humor? Did this writer even listen to the album? The parts that are angry and the parts that curse are clearly inspired by her messy divorce -- "I Fucked Up," "Best Friend," "Gang Bang" -- and losing millions to Guy -- "Love Spent." Reaching too much.

The haters could say what they want to and post what they want to. Madonna brings joy to millions of people all over the world and is one of the most successful touring artists alive. While people waste their time clinging on to any negative tidbit they can find, she is busy rehearsing for her world tour that will surely be the highest grossing tour of the year. Anyone that thinks that MDNA is not a hit, globally, is kidding themselves. The music industry in general has changed dramatically and the fact that anyone is buying CD's anymore is a miracle in and of itself. While the haters hate, I'll be dancing in the isles at her New York City show.

ROFL.....:)Once again let me put on my " OMG I'm so shock" face on..lolHard Candy sold 280,000 the first week and that was like 4 yrs ago yet just last year she was still being called " The Queen" by everybody and being # 1 on many Pop Icon lists. What can I say Once the Queen always the Queen :)I guess some people are still feeling a little bit humiliated about what happen last year...

Madonna's manager on Twitter said:
if we can get further along in the next few weeks with the tour, we will do [a TV performance].. We have one in mind.. but no promises..

performing MDNA live everywhere is promo. but I do agree and wish we could have done more. SuperBowl took 2 months

"turn up the radio"is feeling like the next single

Tomorrow night with all the press coming for launch of perfume at Macys will provide an opportunity to promote MDNA

there will be a few tv interviews happening tomorrow night for the album.. but then back into Tour mode..

Tomorrow night she will answer some questions directly from the fans and do some tv press..

thinking about what we could do live from each show.. we are brainstorming..

Guy Oseary is such a tool. A month ago he was all boasting about how MDNA was going to be promoted in "non-traditional" ways. Well, dear, the second week sales are in and I'm pointing and laughing at the egg on your face because now suddenly we're in panic mode and M has to try to squeeze in TV apperances to save her album. I cannot believe Madonna has allowed this guy to ruin her career for so long.

Madonna Tops Lady Gaga for Biggest 2nd Week Sales Drop for a No. 1-Debuting Album

This week, Madonna's "MDNA" earns the distinction of the largest second-week percentage sales drop for a No. 1-debuting album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The album slides from No. 1 to No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with a 86.7% sales decline (falling from 359,000 to 48,000 according to SoundScan).

The percentage dip surpasses the record set by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way," when it fell 84.27% in its second week on the chart dated June 18, 2011. "Born This Way" bowed the previous frame at No. 1 with 1.11 million, and then sold 174,000 in its second week at the top of the chart. "Born This Way's" debut was amplified by Amazon MP3's decision to offer the set at 99 cents twice on two separate days during its premiere week.
*
"MDNA's" large fall was expected, as its debut was bolstered by sales gained from a concert ticket/album promotion as well as preorders from iTunes. Further, without a current hit single on our major airplay charts nor any substantial recent promotion on Madonna's part, the drop was bound to be significant.
*
Both "MDNA" and "Born This Way" would have not had such steep drops, had it not been for unusually enhanced first-week sales.
*
While "MDNA" has the biggest drop for a No. 1-debuting set in SoundScan history, it's actually the second-biggest fall for a top 10-bowing album. The largest second-week collapse for a top 10-debut was for the rock compilation titled "The Edge" on April 10, 2010. It sold 53,000 when it bowed at No. 4 and then fell by 87.2% to 7,000 (No. 81) in its second week. The Razor & Tie compilation saw its sizable first week sales generated by a direct-response TV ad campaign and preorders.
*
Most superstar albums that start at or near the top of the chart fall by 60% to 80% in their second week. And, high-debuting sets that are especially front-loaded by pre-orders, niche fanbases or unusual marketing campaigns take harder hits.
*
"MDNA's" lead single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" (featuring Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.) peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- thanks to strong initial sales. However, on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart -- the diva's home radio format -- the single faltered at No. 24 and spent only five weeks on the list. The album's second single, "Girl Gone Wild," has yet to dent the Mainstream Top 40 tally.

In terms of recent promotion, Madonna has basically been off the radar, instead focusing her energy on rehearsals for her upcoming world tour. Since headlining the Feb. 5 Super Bowl halftime show, her only significant recent media appearances have been via a live Facebook chat with Jimmy Fallon (March 24) and a brief drop-in at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami the same night.
*
Guy Oseary, Madonna's manager, tweeted in response to a fan's question last night, saying ". . . I wish we could have done TV last week but we were in rehearsals morning and night. 7 more weeks to show time . . . "
