Madonna - Bitch I'm Madonna (Behind The Scenes) ft. Nicki Minaj

Favorite Madonna album?

Mine is "Ray of Light". That album had a life of its own and really captures that late 1990's feel. It's like you're in another world when you listen to it, the ambiance takes you away.

Five singles were released from the album ("Frozen", "Ray of Light", "Drowned World/Substitute for Love", "The Power of Goodbye" and "Nothing Really Matters"). Madonna worked with English producer William Orbit on this album. The album is pop and electronica, and uses elements of dance, techno, trip hop, drum and bass, ambient, rock and classical music. Vocally, the album saw Madonna sing using greater breadth and a fuller tone. Oriental themes are also present on the album, as a result from her conversion to Kabbalah, her study of Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as her daily practice of Yoga; songs like "Sky Fits Heaven" and "Shanti/Ashtangi" are examples from these activities.

The album received universal acclaim, with reviewers commending the singer's new musical direction. They called it her "most adventurous" record, as well as noting its mature, restrained nature; the singer's vocals were also praised. Ray of Light won four Grammy Awards from a total of six nominations. The album was also a worldwide commercial success, peaking at number one in at least 17 countries. On the US Billboard 200, the album debuted and peaked at number two. Ray of Light has accumulated global sales of over 16 million copies.

The album's promotion was later supported by the Drowned World Tour in 2001. Critics and scholars have noted the album's influence on popular music, especially how it widely introduced electronic music into mainstream pop audience. They also noted the way in which Madonna was able to re-invent herself and remain fresh and contemporary amidst the more teen pop-based music of the period. The album has been included in many critic lists and polls, including Rolling Stone magazine's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

Diplo: Madonna doesn’t get a fair shot

In his latest interview for Rolling Stone, Diplo once again stands up for Madonna and denounces the unfair treatment she gets, just because she’s Madonna…

Rolling Stone: You co-produced several songs on Madonna’s new one, including her new single. What do you make of the ageism she faces?

Diplo: She created the world we live in. It already sucks to be a woman in the music industry, but to be a boss woman is even harder. She sold out her tour in minutes, but no one seems to want her to succeed — “Madonna, we’ve been there, done that, now we’re about Kim Kardashian.” Her song “Ghosttown” was a guaranteed Number One for anybody else, but she didn’t get a fair shot. With “Bitch I’m Madonna,” everyone said there’s no way it will go anywhere, but I’m like, “Screw it, it represents you more than anything.”

Gotta love her.....she'll probably never do a farewell tour. I wish she would do more tracks like the ones on confessions. I'm not crazy about her urban sound.

Re: Favorite Madonna album?

Like A Prayer always and forever. However, I do think Rebel Heart was the least bad album she released in the 21st century... least bad.

Re: Favorite Madonna album?

The Immaculate Collection, sure it's a greatest hits but it is a stunning array of songs.

Re: Favorite Madonna album?

1980's: Like a Prayer
1990's: Ray of Light
2000's: Confessions
2010's: Rebel Heart

And Madonna was at her peak, IMO, in the 90's, so.... ;)

Sounds like you want an all out disco album. That would be great.
