Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

Can't leave out Celine's video for the song. Luv her version too.

....speaking of Celine, she's another diva that I LOVE! And she doesn't hide the fact that she is a huge Whitney fan herself. Love it. She just adores Whitney and idolizes her and I just adore Celine! She's so sweet, loving and kind. She has a good heart.

:-)

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

It just goes to show how great a songwriter Diane Warren is. That lady must be loaded.

I also find it great that Patti really never shows any hostility towards Celine for having more success with the song. At least I don't think she has.

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

^^^I've seen Patti in concert many times and she acknowledges Celine as her "girlfriend" and she points out the fact that she recorded "If you ask me to" first...

Celine is Sincere whenever she speaks about her Family, friends and other celebs. That's what I always Love about her...Celine had Fame & Fortune before she hit the States and when she exploded here and around the world she remained true to herself...

One moment in her Career that will forever be written in stone is the night she tried to take down the Queen of Soul...LOL...Celine got Guts if nothing else..

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

lolol yeap that was funny celine tryna take on aretha. and ive actually always liked celines version just a little bit more than patti version. I guess I jest really like the little changes celine threw in there, and it sounds more universal.

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

^I'm the opposite. I like Celine's verse better but I think Patti absolutely owns her once the bridge hits.

But it's a hard song to sing and they both do it with ease.

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

I agree with both points. Both versions have something I like more than the other. I do like Celine's adlibs and some of the verses more, but Patti owns it for me after the bridge. That big belt on "I'll give you Aaaaannything, just ask me, Baaaaby." That part is my fav. But I do prefer some of Celine's verses more and her lil adlibs; the "Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Baby. Oh yes." Luv that part, and her adlibs at the end. Overall, I prefer Patti's version because of the part after the bridge (which totally makes the song for me). It's just more dramatic, grand and hard-hitting than Celine's version. But Celine takes it for the verses and adlibs!

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

"You Are My Friend" will always be my favorite song by Patti. The emotion in that song makes me want to cry when I hear it.

I'm surprised EvilTwinTwo hasn't made his presense known in this thread yet. Anything "Whitney", he usually on it like white on rice.

Still holding out hope for him to appear and post his usual 20+ posts in a row as he does in the Whitney thread.

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

Whitney and Patti paying tribute to each other.......

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

^^^^Patti's tribute to Whitney was "so-so" at best....I remember watching this Essence performance when it aired back in 96 or 97...The begining was kinda bad then she got better towards the middle and brought it home in the end...

Patti sang the roof off the song LIVE in concert back in 1994...The televised version doesnt measure up...

Re: Patti LaBelle gives her take on Aretha, Streisand, MaDonna, Janet, Whitney & Mariah

As much as I like Patti Labelle I have to say she's a diva. I saw her in concert a few years ago and was dissappointed in her show. First and last time seeing her and she never came back for an encore like every other concert I've been too. After her performance she abruptly left the stage and said she was told she had to leave. Which I find very strange. The show wasn't sold out and maybe that had something to do with it. It shouldn't because everyone in the audience came and paid to see her perform and she received a standing ovation from the audience.
I now look at Patti Labelle in a different light. She's a diva.Still like her music.

Yeah.

I also, LUV this performance of Patti singing Whitney's "All The Man That I Need"...

Love how she "Pattified" it, and put her own spin on it. Killed it! :=D:

Mariah Pregnant With Twins?

MARIAH Carey is pregnant with TWINS — according to a new report in the National Enquirer!

The singer — who’s married to actor/rapper Nick Cannon — apparently used fertility treatments to help her conceive.

Mariah and Nick, 29, visited the Southern California Reproductive Center, a top fertility clinic in Beverly Hills, on Mother’s Day.

Carey has already had two bedrooms at the couple’s Los Angeles home turned into adjoining nurseries.

Meanwhile Cannon said on his radio show Thursday that his wife will speak publicly, if she has any news, when the time is right for her.

“I’m pretty sure that when my wife is ready to make any announcement it won’t be to the media, to the public, first,” he said. “She’ll tell her family, she’ll tell her friends, and then, you know, when she’s ready to share with the rest of the world, who is her extended family and friends, then she’ll let everybody know.

“My wife has been in this business for a long time and dealt with so many things, she knows how to handle herself. She’s a very, very strong woman, probably the strongest woman I know, and I love her dearly. So, when she tells me something, I’ll tell y’all, probably after I tell my mama.

“It’s probably a question I get asked more than anything: When are we having children?

“Of course, being married you want to start a family. … But you can’t say, ‘Well yeah, next week, Thursday, on the 4th, we gonna do this, and then we plan on having the child.’ You know, you gotta leave all that stuff to God. That’s in God’s hands. So, when it happens, it happens, and we’ll be happy.”

Carey sent the pregnancy rumor mill into overdrive last month after she abruptly dropped out of her next project — a role in Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.

I know this is from the National Enquirer but has anyone else heard this rumor? If it's true all I have to say is congrats to Mariah and Nick!
