Re: Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas II You

Too bad she lipped 85% of the special, including most, if not all highnotes/Whistles/Belts, including her performance with her mother. Her voice sounds good because it's perfected in a sound studio. :[

Re: Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas II You

I heard that she performed some songs more than once that they used for editing so it could most likely have been live.

Re: Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas II You

I doubt it. For years she has been lipping her highnotes and belts including on tour, why would she sing live on a tv show where her voice needs to be perfect to sell records? And some of the songs are the exact studio versions, or rerecorded vocals she uses to lip, according to my lamb friends.

Open Arms - Celine Dion, Journey, or Mariah Carey?

been a while since I last did this. this one is on Open Arms, originally performed by Journey. It went on to be recorded by Mariah Carey and as Celine Dion's opener to her Las Vegas show. Obviously I have to choose Celine cuz I just love her.

Re: Open Arms - Celine Dion, Journey, or Mariah Carey?

I love Mariah's version, the entire Daydream album was amazing.

Re: Open Arms - Celine Dion, Journey, or Mariah Carey?

I picked Mariah (shocker!!). I heard her version before I heard the original ('Hey! Who the hell is singing Mariah's song? Journey? Who the hell are they?').

But I'll echo the 'Daydream' praise. One of my absolute favorites!

Re: The Best Four Minutes of Mariah Carey’s Insane HSN Appearance

I watched like a minute. I don't know. I guess I just wasn't interested in her stuff.

Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

I was just watching a Mariah Carey video from the 90's called Some Day and I never gave it much thought but I actually really dig her look from when she was younger. I know when she progressed as an artist, she went more hip hop and got more thick in her body, bigger breasts and had a much more sexual image but I honestly think she was sexier when she was more natural looking and had an innocence to her. I know most men would disagree but I think that was so much sexier to me. I feel like when she collaborated into a more hip hop/ RnB style she was still sexy but it became too much and bordered on trashy and slutty.

I'm curious to know what your opinion is on this.

Re: Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

I've never had a problem with her image but in terms of musical style, I prefer her early stuff. I still like her music but not as much as her first 4-5 albums. TBH it's not just her in particular, I find most RnB from the late 90's onwards to be pretty dull and bland.

Re: Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

i used to absolutely love EVERYTHING that Mariah did in the early to mid-90's. When she divorced Tommy Mottola and released "Butterfly" and the song "Honey" I was totally on board for how hot she became and the image she started to project. Then came "Rainbow" and "HeartBreaker".

Then came "Glitter". This was too much. Ridiculous.

She started to come back around with Charmbracelet then her best release to date which was "Emancipation....". since then, she has been mediocre at best.

I wish she would go back to the hard r&b of say "Sent From Up Above" or "Vanishing" but that style of music doesn't go these days. Oh well.....she had her day...I doubt she'll get #18 (or 19, can't remember) #1. still mostly a fan though.

Re: Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

Don't care. Her music sucks now.

Re: Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

I have all of her cd's and I like a few from each. Her best to me was MiMi, I like almost every song except one or two. There are also a few of her Imperfect Angel cd I listen to a lot (Hate U, Betcha Gon Know, More Than Just Friends). I really don't care for her ballads lately, mainly because of the way she sings "whispery like" it gets irritating. I am still waiting for a new cd but I doubt it is this year.

Re: Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

I adore Mariah. Her last album actually had several tracks reminiscent of her early work (Angels Cry, HATEU, Candy Bling, It's A Wrap). It was step in the right direction had she released a lead single other than "Obsessed" which gave many a false expectation as to what the album would be.

As far as her image, I prefer her "Dreamlover" days, but I always felt she did what she needed to do to stay relevant in the industry; by the late 90's and early 2000's, the pop music scene was changing and morphing into where we are now: where image is more important than any real talent. For a long time during the past decade, it was almost a curse to have a good voice and showcase it.

Now, has she taken in to the extreme at times: yes, but I hope that now that she is a mother in her 40's, she will tone it down and go back to her beginnings. She has done something right to have a 20+ career in the industry.

This video shows just the range and power of her voice.

Until she starts wearing outfits like this:

I'm not too concerned :p.

Re: Mariah Carey (old image vs. new image)

I prefer her body shape now adays, I find she looks amazing and very sexy in a nice hourglass gown like she wore at the walmart[?] gala. But she so rarely wears that stuff, instead she generally dresses like she is 13. And that means she dresses like a slut, and a 42 year old one at that. It's not cute. As for her voice, since 1998 it's medocre at best when you take away the prerecorded vocals and back up tracks and such. She has always been a studio artist who is inconsistant when she is actually singing a full song live, which is why alot of her performances till 2000 have dubbed portions [yt] and from 2000 onwards are lipped for the vocally stressful parts. [I was a fan, am still of her early work, and am an all around Trinity diva fan, Celine being the best IMHO still relevant and popular in a worldwide arena, top selling female artist of the past decade and technically of the 90's as well]

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RagXFexNAOA[/ame] she looks beautiful here, the end of this song is lipped.

I agree 100%. I don't agree with her image choices but she is still one of the greatest talents imo. Her last album was pretty damn awesome imo. She may not be where she was vocally but she's still better than most artist out now.
