Re: Mariah Carey's New Single "Obsessed

I wish MC would stop trying to sound so hip and trendy and just sing.

I am waiting for Whitneys to come back and show the wanna-be's how it is truly done.

Agreed. I'm looking for Whitney to bring back REAL singing. This new Mariah song is garbage. She's not even really singing on it. And that "Hate U" clip was lame too. Matter of fact all the music she's been putting out lately is whack. And I'm a fan of the old Mariah. ](*,)

Re: Mariah Carey's New Single "Obsessed

She could fart on a cd. And you super fans would call it the new sound of music. She hasnt done anything ground breaking in years. She makes hip hop lite music for soccer moms and drag queens.
The biggest sin you can commit in pop music is playing it safe. And this is a sin she commits over and over. Cant wait for the video, you know face posed to the left, butterfly rings, wind machine in weave etc etc etc.

LMAO..!! :rotflmao:

Re: Mariah Carey's New Single "Obsessed

That could be Jojo or any number of other young pop starlets.

Its teeny pop. With no vocal distinction.

Its still better than her recent crap though. Just.

Lies. Josus would not record some lame shit like that. Josus Christ I apologize for his blasphemy, he knows not of your greatness.

Praise Josus!

Like "Touch My Body," this song will probably grow on me. I think a slick video and some uptempo dance remixes with chilling, additional vocals could push it over the top. She's got loads of marketing capital.

Re: Mariah Carey's New Single "Obsessed

This song is horrible.

Her voice does NOT sound good with auto-tune all over it.

Whitney Houston has impressive comeback marketing campaign
June 16, 8:51 PM

Whitney Houston is back

Whitney Houston’s comeback campaign seems quite contrived. It’s as if we are getting ready to watch the new Whitney Houston Comeback movie with people jumping, crying, and screaming, “Welcome back Whitney!” Let’s face it: America loves comebacks. Whitney Houston could deliver absolute musical crap and the media will still love it.

However, it doesn’t sound like Whitney Houston is going to be releasing crap. Music industry insiders say that the most important aspect of Whitney Houston’s comeback campaign is to remind people why they fell in love with Whitney Houston in the first place: her great voice, her irresistible ballads, and her fun dance songs. Her new album, which is rumored to be titled Undefeated, will be released on September 1.

Whitney Houston is playing it very smart by putting out a new album with 80s dance music that is similar to "How Will I Know" and " I Wanna Dance With Somebody." There will also be sweeping ballads similar to "I Will Always Love You" and "Greatest Love of All."

Madonna and Mariah Carey should be taking notes. People really don’t want to see women over forty get down and dirty with rappers and pretend they are twenty-years old again. Mariah Carey thought she would interrupt the buzz surrounding Whitney Houston’s comeback by releasing her album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the week before. Judging by Mariah’s horrid new single "Obsessed," which was just released today, Whitney doesn’t have much to worry about.

ThatGrapeJuice.net Review

http://www.thatgrapejuice.net/2009/06/new-song-mariah-carey-obsessed-review.html

Mariah Carey's hotly anticipated new single 'Obsessed' has literally (literally) just premiered on Chicago's B96 radio station...and it's not good news (IMO).

The Tricky Stewart produced and (The) Dream penned cut sees Mariah sing - vocoder effect en toe- over a much more Urban sounding beat - in comparison to the single offerings from her last effort 'E=MC2'. Getting the 'good' out of the way first; the record is a laced with catchy hooks that should ensure it be a fixture on the radio.

The bad? Basically everything else! For an artist who is oft labelled 'The Voice', this isn't a good look - at all. For IMO any mediocre R&B chick could have churned out the very same track - to much less fanfare. The overly-processed and cooked-up sound of Mariah's voice via the vocoder also doesn't do the 39 year old any favours in the forever-raging debate about the state of her voice. Summed up, Mariah dropped the ball with this one. I'll probably become "Lamb Stew" for this, but oh well...LOL.

Go back to the Whitney Crack Houston forums. It'd be different if your opinion mattered, but you're so far up Whitney's tired ass, you wouldn't know a good song if it sucked your dick. Whitney only wishes she could come out with a song that would be a hit such as this one, but she can't. Get the fuck over it. She will never be Mariah, she will never "come back." Deal with it.
