I think I may said this before in another thread, but when this film was here in Vancouver at the Queer Film Festival, it sold out two screenings, and also went on to win the People's Choice Award in the festival. I really wish I could've seen it when it was playing here. Looks like I'll just have to wait till the DVD comes out though.

Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

It's actually pretty good. The best gay movie i've seen in a long time. I usually hate gay movies, including Brokeback Mountain(sorry guys). They usually fall under 3 categories.

1. Really cheap and low budget with bad acting, and cheap, raggedy set. And sorry to be surperficial but unattractive actors as well. Or they have hot straight actors who are just not believable(Broken hearts Club). Or the story is so damn muddled it makes no fuckin sense.

2. Quality acting and well made but very depressing. Somebody is dying from AIDS, they get AIDS, or somehow the story is mostly about AIDS(Philadelphia, Angels in America, Rent etc.) Or somebody is a street hustler who really isn't gay but is addicted to crack, cocaine, meth and heroin.

3. They start out ok but turn out having a miserable unhappy ending where the couple never ends up together(Brokeback and many foreign movies) Or they get way too artsy and confusing that you don't what the fuck is going on anymore.

Shelter has the rare combination of hot, believable actors, decent story mixed with a little conflict, hot loves scenes without making it a porn, and a satisfying ending. It isn't quite spielberg quality production with Crash-quality acting but very good for what it is. I think it might actually be on Here! on OnDemand but you can also find the DVD I'm sure.

My Favorite new movie! Trevor Wright is so beautiful and the Chemistry that he had with Brad Rowe was magnetic. this is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I'm buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD. Check my thread out about Shelter.

My Favorite new movie! Trevor Wright is so beautiful and the Chemistry that he had with Brad Rowe was magnetic. this is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I'm buying it as soon as it comes out on DVD. Check my thread out about Shelter.

Yes Trevor is extremely hot and he and Brad were amazing together. They seemed so natural. I'm surprised he would be daring enough to take on such an intense gay role so early in his career. Very brave.

I really enjoyed this movie but I did expect a bit more after hearing everyone including critics rave about it. Trevor and Brad had great chemistry and were very cute together and I loved his brother in the movie.

Brad is supposdly working on another gay themed movie he wrote with Rebecca Gayheart and Chad Allen. Trevor is doing a sequel to vacancy(more proof Hollywood is running out of ideas).

One question tho, do you think it deserves the R rating, or do you think it's because it's gay themed.

^hahaha. i was thinking the same thing. as someone who saw it. it definitely does not deserve an R-rating. There's no actual nudity. There is a scene where they have sex but u can't see anything below the waist. There is part where it's obvious one guy is getting head, but it's only because of the recipient's facial expression. U can't see a head bobbing up and down. maybe that's it. But honestly I've seen more explicit sex scenes on grey's anatomy, nip/tuck, and rescue me.

I dojn't think they'll make a sequel. It actually has a satisfying conclusion. But the director needs to make more movies like this. There's such a shortage of decent gay films, that people can relate to or be inspired by.
