The Official "Shelter" Movie Thread! [merged]

Re: Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

^ Well no gay movies are mainstream except Brokeback. They're all pretty much indie and low budget. I have looked for years and wasted so much money ordering DVDs that sounded good only to be disappointed.

Re: Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

^Not sure. But i don't think so because I saw some interviews with Brad Rowe where he was saying he was amazed at how committed Trevor was to the role. Which is code for how comfortable a straight guy was playing a gay. Also, I've seen pics of Trevor at premieres or something with that annoying bitch from Cloverfield, that they ran across the city to rescue, where they looked coupley.

It makes sense that he's straight because he played it as a guy who was in a relationship with a guy. They were so natural it wasn't a big production about making a statement about homosexuality.

Re: Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

Loved, LOVED this movie. I've never wanted to watch a gay themed movie again. I hardly watch any movies again right after seeing them. I watched Shelter twice and plan on watching it again it was that good.

I feel like we need movies like this to set the standard for all gay themed films so people can stop getting away with the trash they're throwing at us that we have to accept because it's all we get.

Re: Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

^ I know! I've watched it like 3 times. Your other comments are very insightful and true as well. The movie is so simple but so great.

Everyone considers Brokeback Mountain this great love story but I didn't really get that. It had it's moments but to me it was really forced and awkward. I didn't see too much love or a natural relationship.

One minute they're eating beans out of a can the next they're fucking in a tent and sending postcards. It was kinda bizarre to me.

Re: Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

I honestly think that's how the director made it out to be. He erased the 'love at first sight' rule for so many romantic movies, and shown how love often blooms in real life, with a spontaneous moment of passion that neither person really expected, but ultimately wanted, probably at a sub-conscious level.

About it seeming forced and awkward, it could be because both of the actors were straight, and had a few personal problems with some of the stuff, although overall they wanted to do the movie, for the 'message' it sent, and the fame it would get them.

Re: Anyone saw the gay movie Shelter?

@ Glafna-

I don't buy that the actors are straight and maybe have problems with the gay stuff bullshit and hate when people say it. They're actors. None of it is real. At the end of the day they know if they're really gay or straight and everyone in their lives they care about will know the truth as well should they choose to share. If they don't want the negative connotations associated with the part, they won't take it, plain and simple. So they really shouldn't be allowed to be uncomfortable and it definitely should not even remotely come across on screen for people like you and me to question their willingness to play the part.

@ aijalon18-

I agree. I personally thought the movie to be kind of bizarre myself. I didn't understand exactly what it was we were supposed to be getting from the movie and ultimately what it's point was supposed to be. The quality and talent was definitely there but I found the storytelling to be severely lacking.

And to get back to the point of this thread, I just watched the movie with a friend and he loved it. Now I want to watch it again. It hasn't grown old yet. Maybe I'm obsessed. Probably.

I am just throwing out possible reasons for why it may seem forced and awkward. I don't really care what it may be, because I'm not that good at telling acting talent, unless it's either extremely good or extremely bad. And we are all human, therefore we question the things we see, hear, and think, tis how it is, and how it will always be.

Also, what do you mean 'people like you and me'?

Re: The Men of "Shelter"!

I want to see it so bad! I can't wait for it to come out...I am going to pre-order it now!

Re: The Men of "Shelter"!

I LOVED this movie. I CANNOT wait to buy it. Heads up, I think it's only like 12.99 or something at amazon. I'm buying it. I'm hoping to see some decent DVD features but if it's just the movie then I'll live lol.

I bought the soundtrack off of Itunes because I LOVED the music.

Re: The Men of "Shelter"!

I've gotta get that damned channel....

It's not too bad. The price for me is seven bucks a month through Comcast. Took all of five minutes once I made the call. The movies alone is worth the price.

I am going to order this movie too. It is a keeper. Amazon does have it for $12.99 right now going out at the end of May.

Re: The Men of "Shelter"!

Whoah, hey. Spoilers, people. I'm tempted to look at those pics/vids but I just downloaded it and am going to watch it soon. Found it as a torrent on demonoid, if anyone has an account there.
