Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

It's hilarious... Whitney Houston has a vocal legacy that, in its prime, was lightyears beyond any of the songstresses of today, and yet, she still gets no respect.

She doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. Why? BECAUSE SHE DID IT ALREADY! Beyonce, Rihanna, et al have built their careers singing songs by Whitney and Mariah -- two women who had amazing vocal abilities in their 20s that the present day "Sean Garrett, Ne-Yo, Polow da Don" produced, heavily computerized wannabes try to achieve.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

This video was taken the last week in May of this year, 2008 in Morocco where Whitney performed "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" at a rhythm's festival.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

This performance just shows that she is really trying.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

I think it's the old age catching up, and the aftereffect of whatever drugs she may have taken.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

Mainly it's Mariah syndrome. Worked her voice so hard that she probably just can't do the same with it anymore. On top of that, the crack couldn't have been a good thing.

Hopefully the women still knows how to blow and how to still live up to her name. She used to have one of the most beautiful voices in the world. I can't believe she threw it away over some n***a. 'Cause he was not worth it by any means.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

Can crack actually permanently damage the vocals chords though - and if so, by what mechanism? Can someone with a medical background explain it?

I totally believe that it would affect the voice *while* someone was a user, but I don't really get how it would have a lasting effect.

Anyhow, she sounds OK here. Not amazing, not as good as she used to, but still better than most singers. I think a major factor in the relatively lacklustre vocals is the fact that she stopped singing for ages. She's out of practice, out of condition. She could be great again if she plays her cards right, I think (or hope).

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU TAVARES WHITNEY IS A LEGEND. SHE LEAD THE WAY FOR WOMEN TODAY, AND FOR THAT WE SHOULD RESPECT HER CUZ WITHOUT HER THERE PROLLY WOULN'T BE NO BEYONCE OR RIHANNA OR ALICA KEYS. BUT I ALSO RESPECT HER FOR HER VOCALS SHE COULD SING THEN AND CAN STILL SING NOW.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

A lot of the legends...Aretha,Chaka and so on are not being respected when they are the reason any of the singers of today even have a career!!.... ....That's how the world is now no respect for anyone else but don't you dare disrespect me!!....When will we ever learn "GIVE respect,GET respect"!!!..|

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

miketlow, isn't that the truth. We as a society don't respect older people, we don't respect the planet, somethings has to change, we can't keep living this way.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

She's sounding better here than she has in 3 or 4 years. She is LEGEND. I have no doubt she will come back strong as long as she stays clean and sober.

Re: What Whitney Houston Sounds Like Now

I'm a huge Whitney fan and always will be.

She sounds MUCH better than she has in recent past. I'm impressed. She sounded a hott mess just up until several months ago and I can notice much improvement now in her voice and the tone and clarity.

No one can touch her when she is in her right mind and on top of her game. No matter the problems she's faced in her personal life, her legacy and accomplishments will always remain. And her voice, when in it's prime, speaks for itself.

Check out these awesome clips:

Incredible. Her range and the POWER in her voice was insane.

Whitney Houston: "I Am Changing"

This performance is FLAWLESS. It starts off pretty slow but jus wait till she gets into it. Whoo lawd! She rips it to shreds. Especially about 3:00mins + and after into it.

And here's a nice video collection of many of Whitney's songs and live performances that showcases her range and the different aspects of her voice:

Whitney Houston - Best Chest Voice In The World

Just amazing. That VOICE.

Come back soon, Whitney!

well...you'll NEVER see an MD after my name, but i'd imagine the constant breathing in of smoke damages your throat, windpipe and lungs. all 3 would directly effect someone's voice i think. she does still sound good though.

Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Last night Whitney Houston made a surprise comeback appearance at the BET Honors which take place in D.C. . She presented an award to Tyler Perry. They show is to air on Feb. 9th. Considering she was heavy into drugs, entered rehab 3 times, is recently divorced and is 45, she looks DAMN GOOD! Let's hope the voice is somewhat intact.

Dam right she looks good.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

When you say comeback appearance '09, I thought you meant she she returning to the music industry. I was about to flip out, lol. She looks incredible though. It kind of looks like she's wearing a blanket, LOL.

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

SHE LOOKS AMAZING. Thick and healthy! What a turnaround.

I'm hella excited for the comeback of "THE VOICE". Bring it Whitney. The world is rooting for you!

Re: Whitney Houston's Comeback Appearance '09

Ok, I am admittedly not an avid poster in any of these forums, although I read them daily. Usually because I agree with whats being said, or have nothing meaningful to add.

I have a couple of comments/ questions for those who are commenting on 'true' talent 'back in the day'

"You had to sing well, dance, act, tell jokes or do SOMETHING better than anyone else. Or at least... well.Fame was a bi-product of being good at something. A singer sang songs and if they did them well, they became famous."

I am NOT claiming to be a large fan of any of the aforementioned artists, in fact i just went on billboard.com to check a couple of things out. The reason for my post was the trouble I had with accepting your views about their children.

Whitney Houston, who you are so quick to berate, became one of the first African American women to gain consistent airplay on MTV and the like throughout the 80's. Her success came well before she met her "celebrity" husband. In fact Whitney Houston was far more popular than her husband. So Im not too sure how...

"she's famous for being a classless, drug-addicted whore who married someone famous"

Also, she maintains a record for seven consecutive #1's on the billboard 100. To me, this at the very least allows for Whitney Houston to be named "formerly talented" rather than attributing her career fame to her "classless drug-addicted lifestyle".

Finally, for both Brittany Spears and Whitney Houston, I think its really bold to claim that they had children who they did not "love or care for" I must ask on what basis do you assert this? Have you been an active participant in their lives? or do you, like all of the other people who buy the product of Brittany etc.. just listen and observe the information that the mass media feeds culture?

I do sincerely apologize for going off like this, but I often follow your posts Jasun and agree with your opinions quite regularly. Surely in these forums there is room for conflicting views, but I expected you of all posters to have more insight into what you say, or at least have some credible information to back up your slander. Most ironically after I have released my rant, I agree of your definition of our current celebrity role, however I think your example of Houston is off the mark.
