A Gaga+Whitney mashup that I like...

Ahh, Gaga & Whitney. We need a REAL collaboration or duet. :gogirl:

...I feel the love. :D

^ Whatever happened to that kid? I miss him. :-)

He's another young singer who was supposed to be "the second coming of Whitney Houston", but then after their 15 minutes of fame they simply fade away and you don't hear from them or see them anymore really and after they stop becoming such a big deal, it's just on to the next one to take the spotlight as "the next Whitney". Like the little filipino girl, Charice, who everyone was proclaiming to be "the next Whitney" back when she performed Whitney's "I Have Nothing" on Oprah.

Ahhh..oh well. But at least they got themselves some fame and continue to keep focus/talk on the legendary Whitney Houston, though. And they continue to prove that she is the most-influential singer out there and why she is looked at as the singer to be measured by, to become the greatest. Because if you notice, its never "she's gonna be the next Mariah Carey...or she's gonna be the next Celine Dion", when these new singers become sensations. It's always "she's gonna the next Whitney....or that little chubby chinese kid is gonna be the next Whitney." Leona Lewis was also said to be the next Whitney as well after she won The X-Factor. And so was Alexandria Burke. And soooo many other singers. But then after the hype dies down, it's just on to the next young singer who will be compared to Whitney...

Loves it.

Everytime I see Whitneys name my mind automatically goes to Kathy Griffin doing her whitney impression...lol

Tarralyn Ramsey SHOULD have been the 2nd Coming of "Whitney" way back in 2000-2001.....

Tarralyn's been on the scene waaay before her battle on NBC's "The Voice"....The First time I saw her was on VH1's series "Born to Diva" or something....Patti LaBelle was a Mentor to about 5 women from different cities...Patti coached them and the women had to perform in a competition...Similar to IDOL...

Tarralyn sound so much like Whitney BUT she was the NOT the best singer of the Girls. She had the Highest Range plus an Awesome "Whitney-like" tone which made her a Double-threat.......That is why she won the contest...A couple of the other Sistas in the Contest could SANG your "draws" off...I don't know where VH1 found those Sanging Chicks...

Tarralyn's first studio-single release from years & years ago had her sounding JUST LIKE Whitney...I was amazed the first time I heard it...I don't know what I did with that CD-single...

Tarralyn has released Gospel singles and she gets some play in my local area...For some reason her "timing" appears to be a bit off...She's got the GOODS she just needs a Label that believes in her Talent, willingess to develop her as an artist and market that Voice the right way....I wanna see Tarralyn BLOW-UP and be celebrated around the world...That Voice has to be shared with the Universe.....

I agree. If ANYBODY could be close to being "the next WHITNEY", it would have to be Tarralyn. She does have range at that beautiful Whitney-like tone to her voice. She also does a lot of "Whitney-isms". I loved her voice when I first heard her. She can outsang ANY of the current "hot" girls on the charts right now. Too bad she is waaayy underrated and doesn't get no shine.](*,)

Well tarrylyn aint no Whitney. But....NOBODY is!
Say whut u want about whit now, but back in the day that bitch was untouchable! And nobody out today can top Whitney at her best. So the haters better HOPE she never gets it back cause if she do its OVA!

I still can't believe somebody as talented as Whitney Houston let herself become a crack head who is the pun of late night jokes.

The good news is that I hear that she is out of rehab...yey!

I want her to stay focus on being healthy and worry about her music career later.

Did you catch Tarralyn's Battle with Frenchie on "The Voice"? They did a Duet to Be'yonce's "Single ladies"... It was really, really Good...That was my first time seeing Frenchie sing/perform. She's a Pretty Sista. Tarralyn brought Voice & Range but Frenchie won the "battle" because she showed off her talent for being a really good "Technical" singer. Tarralyn's got it in spades but Frenchie gave the crowd Clear and understandsble Vocals. Tarralyn "Vocally attacked" certain parts and that is why Frenchie won that round....

Whitney like Millions of people suffer from "Addiction". Drugs/Alcohol, Food, Porn, Sex can all be Addictive. Most people that don't believe in a Higher-power don't survive it. Whitney does believe in a Higher Power and I believe she will survive the Storm.

Kev...I'm loving your new Avatar-pic..*|*..I might need to Fly out to DC so you can sit on my Face the entire weekend....Show you how a Southern Brotha puts it Down....

Yes, I want her to focus on STAYING healthy. Which she seems to be doing. :=D:

No, I didn't catch them on "The Voice". Might have to try youtube to see if I can pull up some clips from the show. Unless you know where I can watch online??

Kim Burrell spoke about Whitney's recent trip to "rehab"........

DMJ: There’s nothing wrong with that; it sounds great. I want to ask you about two recent TV performances. At the 2010 BET Honors you performed “I Believe In You And Me” as a tribute to Whitney. You seemed to surprise her. Tell me a little bit about how that performance came together and how you were asked to do that?

KB: The role I play in Whitney’s life—we’ve been very close for thirteen, fourteen years. And Pat Houston, who is Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, wanted it to be special for Whitney. And because Pat knows about our relationship, she got me as a surprise. They had to give me a different name all weekend so that Whitney wouldn’t know I was on the premises. As a matter of fact my name was Peppermint Patty for the entire weekend. Whitney had no clue that I was coming out there, and that’s why her reaction was what it was. For one thing, it was two-part for Whitney. Whitney was excited, first of all that they got me to do the tribute, but she was also excited that I was getting an opportunity to be able to perform on a level like that because she has really supported my career and has often wondered why hasn’t the rest of the world “got it”, so to speak. So that meant a lot to her, for me to be up there that night. And it meant a lot to me to be able to do it for her because of our friendship. For two to three minutes, I’m going to be honest with you, no one was in that room to me, but me and Whitney because I know what our relationship is and I know how I’ve been there for her and also how she’s been there for me. It was an amazing time for me.

DMJ: Can I ask you what your thoughts are now about Whitney? The recent news was out that she’s had to return to rehab. Do you wish to share what your thoughts are now about that?

KB: I absolutely would love to. I’m happy to say that I speak with Whitney every single day. We talk every day. And she is not in a rehab. She is in fact, in L.A., getting very special attention, on her own time with her own private doctors for the upcoming events that she has. It is not in a facility. She’s going to a doctor’s office to be treated by doctors. It’s nothing of the sort. Everybody has their own opinion about her. Of course, she’s a world figure so people are going to follow her closely to see what’s happening. And she’s got some personal things going on in her life that would make people believe that she’s doing that, but that is not the case. As a matter of fact, I’ll be going out in a week and I will be seeing her. So I’m happy to say that she’s doing well enough not to need rehab. I'm happy enough to say that because I know that to be true for a fact.

DMJ: I thank you very much for clearing that up. Sometimes when things come out in the news and you hear so-called “official” statements, you’re not quite sure what to believe, so thanks for clarifying that. The other performance I wanted to ask you about is also Whitney-related. Earlier this year at the Celebration of Gospel, together you guys performed “I Look To You”, and this time you both seemed to surprise the entire audience—not just the people at home but also people there in the audience. How did that performance come together? How did you guys decide to do that?

KB: The people from BET called me and said, “we’ve tried in all the years we’ve been doing this show [to get Whitney on], unsuccessful, and we want her on here and I know you all are close. Please make that happen.” And that’s what they did. I called her and she said, “With you, yeah, I’ll do it only if I’m singing with you. I’m not going to perform by myself. I’ll do it if we sing together.” And that’s why we chose to do her song.

I've digging a lot of her '80s material lately. I love all the 12" remixes and extended remixes. "Love Will Save the Day" is probably my favourite Whitney song at the moment.

Awesome! ..|
Yeah, Whitney's 12" remixes are hot. Love the extended versions with the extra "new" vocals that weren't in the original album versions of the songs. "Love Will Save The Day" has always been a favorite remix of mine, and "Just The Lonely Talking Again" extended remix and what about the "So Emotional" 12" extended mix? Always luved it!

^ 5:15 - end is 80's Heaven for me :)

^ So mellow, soothing & easy on the ears. :luv:

Clive Davis on Whitney Houston: "We're not gonna make a record or an album until that golden voice is there and fully capable of just knocking everybody out."

June 9, 2011 - Music executive, Clive Davis recently stopped by Los Angeles’ KOST 103.5 morning radio show to talk new music and the business. During the interview, a question was raised about Davis’ dear friend and biggest artist, Whitney Houston, whose addiction battle has been making recent tabloid headlines.

The hosts were eager to get a non-tabloid take on the situation and Clive remarked that Whitney is working on quitting smoking and that they won't be making another album until her “golden voice is back”.

"Whitney...has admitted that she had to conquer a drug addiction and that-that takes all of her energy, but she also...has had a very difficult time giving up cigarettes, and as, you know, in comparison it sounds light, but if you do have a cigarette..um..problem in the sense that you can't give it up, I mean, it is taking all of her energy and I know that she's committed to do it, I know that...you know, she loves music and that, right now she's dealing with that situation and we're not gonna make another record or an album until that golden voice, you know, is there and fully capable of just knocking everybody out."

Go Whit! Go Clive! :=D: :gogirl:

Whitney is working on her BIGGEST addiction right now...and that is her SMOKING. Which is the real culprit in the decline/damage of her voice. Cigarettes do such damage on the chords/voice/lungs -- even more damage than drugs do. And Whitney has been SMOKING her whole career. Cigs are a singer's worst enemy, so I'm glad Whitney is working on finally quitting and giving them up. And I'm glad Clive is there with her, along with her "special doctors" and friends like Kim Burrell for support.

Kick them cigs and work on regaining and re-strengthening that voice, gurl! "I Look To You" was just Whitney's "come-through" album (like Mariah & Mary J had). The next one will be the REAL "comeback" album to look for. Watch what I say. ..|

I'm shocked Clive Davis came out and disclosed this news publicly but Im so proud of Whitney for finally working on giving up them cigarettes! Yes the smokes have been the BIGGEST problem going for her voice. Its been really holding her voice back. That's why singers such as El Debarge, Mary J Blige and Natalie Cole have smoked crack and did alot of other drugs and STILL held on to their voices because they DIDNT smoke they just did drugs. Smoking does alot more damage to the voice, but most people wrongfully think otherwise. We should see a big improvement in Whitney's voice and her breathing after a while of not smoking.

They seriously need to release the MLIYL tour DVD!! Whitney was beasting throughout this whole tour. Is she seriously applying her makeup while sanging and still sounding on point without missing a note?? Hah, Whitney never fails to amaze me!

I also think we should expect Whitneys voice to return to around this level now that she is quitting smoking.

Song of the Day: 'All the Man That I Need,' Whitney Houston

The cover of Whitney Houston's single, "All the Man That I Need."

I watched a Whitney Houston video being made, once. It was December 1990, and she was reconnecting with her Newark roots by shooting part of her "All the Man That I Need" video at the venerable Symphony Hall. The taping was on a Thursday night, and I wrote the following item for the Saturday Star-Ledger:

PATIENCE PLAYS KEY ROLE IN VIDEO TAPING
Whitney Houston fans who assembled to view and participate in the filming of a portion of one of her videos Thursday at Newark Symphony Hall learned an important lesson in the video-making art: It's a slow process. The taping, originally scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., didn't commence until around 9:10 due to various technical delays. The video was for ''All the Man That I Need,'' a track from Houston's most recent album, "I'm Your Baby Tonight." A choir composed of students from several local schools participated in the video segment, in which a wall of a room where Houston is singing is raised, revealing the choir. Footage of the audience was also shot.

Houston, who grew up in Newark and the surrounding area, spoke to the audience briefly, and let several of her fans sing with her microphone while waiting for the taping to begin. - Jay Lustig

I still think "All the Man That I Need" is one of her best singles: an elegant, slow-building showcase for her powerful voice. It became a No. 1 hit for her in 1991.

Check out the video, with Symphony Hall, in all its glory, spotlighted toward the end:
