Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

I will buy this the moment it comes out. I love Whitney!!

Re: omg whitney you kiss your mother with that mouth?

This is the best interview ever!!!

I've listened to it so many times and it never gets old.

My friend and I can't even have a conversation without quoting it lol

And I agree, clean cut- Whitney is boring.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

Wow its sad that she killed her voice smoking all that junk. This is just the ghost of Whitney Houston.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

Oh Jayden, listen to the words my boy. This song showcases a vulnerable, yet triumphant and mature Whitney Houston. No diva-tude here. No defensiveness. She makes you realize that we all make mistakes in life but have to find the strength to pick up and move on. Nippy takes you on a journey in this song right here yall, while letting her guard down. I feel the pain that she once felt.

VERSE 1:
Lost touch with my soul
I had nowhere to turn
I had nowhere to go
Lost sight of my dream
Thought it would be the end of me, uh
I thought i'd never make it through
I had no hope to hold on to, I
I thought I would break

CHORUS:
I didn't know my own strength
and I crashed down and I tumbled
but I did not crumble
I got through all the pain
I didn't know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
I picked myself back up
hold my head up high
I was not built to break
I didn't know my strength, oh

VERSE 2:
Found hope in my heart
I found the light to life
My way out of the dark
Found all that I need
Here Inside of me
Oh, I thought i'd never find my way
I thought i'd never lift that weight
I thought I would break

CHORUS:
I didn't know my own strength
and I crashed down and I tumbled
but I did not crumble
I got through all the pain
I didn't know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
I picked myself back up
hold my head up high
I was not built to break
I didn't know my strength

BRIDGE:
There were so many times, I
Wondered how i'd get through the night, I
Thought I took all that I could take

CHORUS:
I didn't know my own strength
and I crashed down and I tumbled
but I did not crumble
I got through all the pain, oh oh
I didn't know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
I picked myself back up
I hold my head up high
I was not built to break
I didn't know my strength

(Mmmmmm)
I was not built to break, no no
I got to know my own strength

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

I like the edge crack gave to her voice. Too bad she doesn't have stronger material. The lyrics are tired and corny.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

What do the lyrics have to do with opinions on the sound of her voice? Nothing. She could take a massive shit and you'd think it was gold.

I'll tell you one thing. Her voice in this song is SHITTING on Mariah's manipulated voice in "Obsessed". An auto-tuned mess. Mariah isn't even doing HALF the singing Whitney is. Put these 2 on stage and Whitney today would still sing circles around that chick. And get a standing ovation for it afterwards.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

Looks like the gays in the club love it:

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

This song will only succeed in gay dance clubs if it is remixed. As a stand alone single, AC stations won't be spinning this track (much like Celine Dion's last attempt "My Love"), the song is too bland. I don't know why Diane Warren keeps penning songs, the hack hasn't written anything relevant or hit-worthy since the late 90's, and that's when POP format was still embracing/playing LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, etc.

With POP radio format geared more toward hip-hop/urban today, it's highly unlikely Whitney will get any support from TOP 40/POP format stations with the release of this single. Had the song had a bit of a rhythmic beat (like Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love") or had she gone the route Mariah took (more urban sounding), she might have had a chance.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will be Whitney's "comeback" success. There might be initial interest with digital sales in its first week which might give it a higher placing on the Hot 100, but this is not a radio hit and I don't think it will translate to sales longevity either. I feel sad for her because I really wanted her to have the comeback that Mariah experienced a few years ago. I guess this isn't to be.

The album however might do well, but with a weak lead single, that usually spells disaster. I wish she hadn't collaborated with Diane Warren. In fact, I wish Diane Warren would just GO AWAY!

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

The song is solid. However, it is not contemporary and it would not succeed in today's market. As someone said, if it is remixed, it can become a club hit, much like "It's Not Right...". In it's current state, the song could only be successful if it is placed in Television and/or Film like an afterschool special or a Tyler Perry movie.

Apparently the song is being remixed by Peter Rauhofer.

A huge, huge thank you to Shaytan for getting up in the club and hooking Muzo up wth this hotnezz! Peter Rauhofer was at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC's Times Square last nite to premiere his mix of Whitney Houston's new track 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength.' OK, now here's the catch...you get the full track in this vid, but the sound quality is beyond terrible. Remix sounds hot from what I can hear. And the gays seemed to love it. (!)

For the people who said the lyrics are tired and corny:

Mmmm Whitney Houston's new single continues to keep me from spiraling into a deep depression due to the lack of med tech jobs in Houston.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

I like the changes in her voice, it is life, nothing stays the same. Don't get me wrong a pristine 18 year old voice is a beautiful thing...but this is much more relatable & THAT IS POP MUSIC!

All i know is her tone is the same & when she sings "...and I tumbled" it's in a way only she could do & not only am i taken back to be 7 years old and hearing her for the first time but i feel at home....i think giving that feeling to people (like she & mariah can no matter) is so much better than delivering a perfect vocal that no one can relate to, that is great but it can get old & hollow.

Makes me think of that kid the runner up on American idol last year, one of the most beautiful male voices i have heard- perfect in every way except that you could tell the kid had not even started to live a life.

That doesn't prove the lyrics aren't tired and corny. It just proves AaronKyle has bad taste. Like I said, her new voice is interesting. She needs ace material not stale leftovers she wouldn't have touched in the 90's.

Well, I don't think this one song is a true testament of how her 'new' voice is. There will be better songs on the album I'm sure. Both vocally and lyrically.

I agree. Her tone and voice overall is improving. She sounded like shit this time last year and could barely talk let alone sing. But now her voice has shown much improvement.

Remix Treatment: Whitney Houston - I Didn't Know My Own Strength (Alex Dubbing Emotion Mix Radio Edit)

by: Taj | July 10th, 2009

strength-1-1.png

I knew it would only be a matter of time before the bootleg remixes of the leaked Whitney Houston track "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" would start popping-up. Check out Brazilian DJ/Producer Alex Dubbing's take on the song. It sounds a little dated, yes… But it's still very cute and gives the nay-sayers a good indication that the song actually has the potential to be huge dancefloor anthem if put in the right hands. (I'm still praying for a Thunderpuss reunion remix.)
