Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

Not to imply that Whitney was ever on the wagon, but Susan Boyle definitely kicked her off it and left her rolling in the dust.

I'm waiting for a Celebrity Deathmatch between Whitney and Susan.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

It was just unfortunate for Britney that we'd had PINK touring Australia for 4 or 5 months or something ridiculous performing show after sold out show, singing live while hanging upside down from above the stage. PINK would be a hard act for anyone to follow..

Mostly because P!nk is actually a talented live singer, and doesn't have to use sex to keep people interested in her for the past decade.

Aussies appreciate talent, I guess. P!nk may not have THE power voice like Whitney or Celine Dion, but she really does have the best live voice out there of any pop singer right now, and her voice is incredibly versatile: Pop, R and B, Jazz, Rock, Metal, Country, Gospel, Soul, Blues. . .she can sing almost anything. People pay to hear her sing.

------

I really wish Whitney the best, and hope she makes her "real" comeback. Michael Jackson died before he had the chance.

But it appears that she must use irrelevant punctuation in her name to get people to notice her.

And she is not the only one. That, it seems to me, is the silliest 'fad' of the new millennium.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

Whitney Houston's "comeback" was a joke from the beginning.

It was about squeezing the last few million out of the tube before it was thrown away. She's never really recovered and she never really will. Her voice is gone, her record wasn't very good and it was pretty clear right from the start that she blamed everyone but herself for her problems, a sure sign that someone is still using. When you can't even keep your wig on straight and nobody bothers to pin it in place, you know you're just there as comedy relief.

Her people know she's a disaster, they don't care. They're in it for the short-term before throwing her away like the used up garbage she is to them and moving on to the "comeback" of Taylor Dayne.. or.. Pat Benetar. Or George Michael.

Whitney could have been the next Tina Turner if she wasn't a train wreck. As it is, she's proof that Janis Joplin's death was a good career move.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

>>>Whitney Houston's "comeback" was a joke from the beginning.

I think it's definitely a triumph of marketing over music, but that doesn't make it any less of a triumph. Considering what they had to work with - a burned-out voice that could still KINDA carry a tune, but with a very limited range - they chose not to try to "fix it in the mix". Instead, they wrote songs that fit what range she had, and ended up with a decent collection of music that she could at least attempt to sell live on stage. (Imagine if they had Pro-Tooled it into sounding like Whitney of old, and she was stuck out there trying to hit those notes...) Yeah, there's far more headline there than deathless music, but I'll take a passable Whitney album over an overproduced mess masquerading as a comeback album any day.

>>>Aren't we just the lucky ones?

Pffft. We've got a venue in Denver where only two types of bands play - country artists of middlin' renown, and bands that are pretty far along their downward slide towards oblivion. Slaughter was there a few weeks ago, and I see Dokken is booked for this month...

FLASHBACK!!!

*1987 Special Olympics

This woman is so incredibly gorgeous/beautiful/flawless.

Ahh, Whitneyyyy. :luv:

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

I've not been pleased with the quality of Whitney's vocals on the record or in the recent live performances, but I completely agree with SexyKev that the CD has been a big commercial success. There's no doubt about that. I cannot listen to XM radio without constantly hearing "I look to You" and "Million Dollar Bill" (my theme song for 2010). I still think the industry wants her to succeed and she's got a good shot. So I hope the Enquirer story is just baseless rumors.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

Lots of airplay doesn't mean lots of sales.. it just means lots of money for the publishing company that's promoting her.

Did the album actually sell? Because that's where she'll make any money.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

I think it's shifted roughly two million worldwide. Which is about what you'd assume from the push it's gotten. Not all that high, not all that low.

Oh, I know how old it is...

But, still. It's not just the normal passing of time that's affected our Whitney.

She looks at least 40 years older and her spirit and "magic" are long gone.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

I never thought that first album cover looked like her. It looked like they were trying for Sade-meets-New Dehli. The next one looked more in line with her (even if I hated a lot of the songs on it)...

But yeah. She seems to have jumped ahead about twenty years the last ten.

Re: Whitney Houston is back on drugs, worried pals fear

Being a teenager in the 1990s, I really loved My Love Is Your Love. Those songs were alot of gay dance hits when remixed, as I was first starting to meet other gay guys and gay life. She had good music.

Re: New Whitney Album/Song/Performance/Nominations [Mega-Merged Thread]

ive always loved that performance of LOVE WILL SAVE THE DAY. I remeber watching it and being totally infatuated with her. And yes whitney had that "beauty pageant" look going on there. very beautiful.

Re: New Whitney Album/Song/Performance/Nominations [Mega-Merged Thread]

Wow, Whitney is so giving me My Love is Your love era. She sounds great when she takes her time. I think she realizes now rushing lyrics won't speed up her recovery.

i still cannot get over this performance. Its so mind boggling how she manages to pull out them wonderful oldschool notes and hold them like that when just a month or two ago she was nowhere near this level. Now all of a sudden shes doing opera notes and has that wonderful tone back. Just wow! go head whitney
