Jordin Sparks also said in a tv interview a few days back that Britney Spears new album was her current favourite to listen too.

Clearly not a girl with great taste.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

those crack quips are so dated....
your showing your age boys:lol:
I'm so old I can remember when Whitney had hits.

Totally agree X-cell, Whitney ushered in the "show-off" singers like Celine and Mariah. All of them have zero emotion, just showing off how many notes they can hit with each and every line of the song they sing.

I have to admit, that made me laugh.

But I totally disagree with this. Mariah and even Beyonce fall into that category. I hear no emotion when they sing. I'm not saying Mariah isn't a favorite of mine as well (but I do detest Beyonce), but all my Mariah faves are her uptempo songs because they DON'T require emotion. I can listen to Mariah do her vocal gymnastics through all of her dance songs and uptempo songs for days. I remember rockin' Heartbreaker, Honey and Fantasy every day I went to work for close to a month. But I don't really care for any of her slow jams. One Sweet Day bores me. Butterfly bores me so much I change the lyrics to "Spread your legs and prepare to fly." Even Hero has no emotion to me.

But Whitney? She has emotion even in her "show off" style -- because she's a Gospel singer first. The runs and licks she does in her singing is pure Gospel/Soul. That's why her voice stood out back in 1984. Nobody outside of the Pop world heard that soul in their music before. And even people who listened to both Gospel and Pop never the two mesh together like that before. I can always tell a Whitney song, even if I can't hear it all the way, because there's an attitude -- a feisty sass that stands out in her tone.

Shit, All the Man I Need is enough evidence for me. There's an emotional power to that song.

That's the sh!t. My favorite Whitney jam. (!) :gogirl:
Good Love and Saving All My Love are my two drunken karaoke guilty pleasures.

Slut, you flatter me. I wish I was nearly as open as you are. It's been six years, and in the words of Toni Childs, "You know what happens when you don't wear earrings..."

Chile, don't pay these fools no mind. You see I didn't respond to them right? It's because these ignorant fools don't know a THING about what they THINK they know. I mean, to each his own and whatever floats your boat - but please. Whitney Houston is an Interpretive Singer. She acts out the lyrics and makes you "feel" it. She EXUDES all kinds of emotion and attitude when she performs. And her awesome stage presence only adds to it. Just because she had an untouchable voice with an effortless approach to her singing doesn't mean she didn't have any true meaning or feeling behind it.

ZERO emotion??

If you tryna tell me there aint no sign of "emotion" in any of these performances, then you seriously ARE clueless...and need help. :D

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

Whitney is the Featured Icon on MySpace today. They show her new Promotional Video from her official website and they say:

A Diva Returns

Which Grammy and Emmy winner has "over 170 million combined album, singles, and videos sold worldwide?" And who is "the only artist to reach seven consecutive #1 Billboard Hot 100 hits?" None other than the one and only Whitney Houston, set for "the comeback to end all comebacks" this September. Check out the diva's teaser video below, and prepare yourself for one hell of a return this fall.

Okay, your opinion is that Whitney Houston is the begin all and end all of female vocalists and my opinion is her voice has all the feeling of an ambulance siren. "and Iiiiiiiieeeeeiiiiiiieeeeeiiiiiii will alwaaaeeeaaaaeeaaayyysss loooooooooove yooooooooouuuuuuu."

Those vids - I could barely get past the cover caps from laughing, it looked like a bad drag show. Joan Crawford called from beyond the grave - she wants that turban back. So I watched them and my opinion hasn't changed. Attitude? Oh hell yes and then some ten times over! Real, honest, sincere, heartfelt, "I've actually LIVED the lyrics to this song I'm singing" emotion? Nope. She's all for showing off her pipes, and that's it.

Whitney is as big as she got to be by the same way Madonna did - she had some record exec behind her (Clive Davis, as Madonna had Seymour Stein) who shoved her down our throats and up our asses until most everyone was brainwashed into thinking they were both the shit. Those of us who aren't as easily influenced know better.

The music biz, pop culture, and tastes have changed an awful lot since Miss Houston last graced the music charts, so about the only people who'll buy her new stuff will be some queens and the over 40 housewife crowd who've kept up with her tabloid appearances for the last ten years.

I want to see who's going to be the biggest comeback hot mess trainwreck by the end of the summer, her or Michael Jackson.

Deborah Cox on Whitney's Comeback...

Fast & Furious: Deborah Cox goes green for LA Pride

Out spoke with the R&B diva -- and longtime LGBT-rights supporter -- about going green, her three ( ! ) upcoming albums, and what everyone's wondering lately: Can Whitney Houston really make a comeback?

I'm not really sure what kind of relationship you have with Whitney Houston outside of your duet with her on "Same Script, Different Cast," but with her new album due out in September, do you think she can make a successful comeback?

Yeah, absolutely. The voice is the voice. There are still a lot of Whitney fans, including myself, that still love and adore her, so if she just continues to do those classic ballads that we all love for her to sing, and just stand in that fierce dress and deliver, she'll be great.

Amen, Deb! :D

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

I rember back in the early 90's one night Arsino Hall called Whitney "the Barbra Streisand of the gehtto". My two favorites Barbra first. I have watched her videos on youtube so many time and on that really stand out that shows who she "was" in her prime is the video from the Grammy Awards singing One Moment in Time. Perfection!
She had it all and then fell in love with that thing and fucked up. When she got divorced I prayed that the pipe had not destroyed her vocal cords and we will see.
Sicne she left him and got divorced there has been a constant i her life. That would be Clive Davis he put her in rehab, moved her to L.A., and has lept a very close eye on her and she knows she needs it so I think she allows him to guide her down the propper path. One can only hope.
In closing I just think that as much as he adores her he would NEVER EVER let put out an CD that would be less than perfection. He would not let her make a fool of herself nor of himself!
I want the album to be HOT so bad!
THE END!
CANNOT WAIT!

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

Sexykev

you are clearly an over-obsessed uberfan of Whitters. Good for you. But do try to keep your grandiose opinions of her singing within the realms of reality. Thats if you want anyone to take your opinions seriously.

I am a fan of hers, actually. But I honestly can't think of any song of hers that has any great soul, passion or real emotion. When she sings live she puts all the little wibbles and wobbles in exactly the same place everytime.

Maybe its because she grew up somewhat privileged and was always beautiful. I think to sing real soul you need to have suffered to a degree. She never starved. She probably never got dumped by guys. Or even cheated on.

Well not until she met Bobby Brown, at least.

Maybe now her voice will have some genuine emotion. Now she knows real pain.

Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!

When she sings live she puts all the little wibbles and wobbles in exactly the same place everytime.

this is simply incorrect. the truth is that if you took 10 minutes to browse through a few different renditions of ANY of Whitney's songs, you would very quickly see THE FACT that she has NEVER. not once. NOT A SINGLE TIME. performed the same song the "exact" same way twice. she ALWAYS changes it up. so, while you are certainly entitled to dislike Whitney, to think she's got a crap voice, to believe she has no emotional delivery or whatever -- to say she lacks interpretation and that she performs the same everytime, is just plain WRONG. you are wrong. period.
