Re: Whitney Houston Comeback CD Sept. 1st!!!
>>>When compared to albums that are classified as R&B, but not necessarily Pop, her album is the 4th best selling choice. However, on the overall chart at Amazon--which probably reflects a more crossover/Pop sensibility--her album is the 3rd best-selling choice.
I still don't think you're getting my point. Let me state it clearly, then give a different example to illustrate.
"R&B" is, presumably, a subset of "music". Every album in the R&B category also is presumably included in the "music" category as well. And it is mathematically impossible to score lower in a subset category than you do in the overall category.
Let's say we measure every guy's cock in the world. (Nice job if you can get it.) Now find the guy who has the third-biggest cock in the world. Could he have the fifth-biggest cock on JUB? No. Because if he did have the fifth-biggest cock on JUB, that means there are four guys on JUB who have bigger cocks than he does. And thus, he couldn't have the third biggest cock in the world, because those four guys would place higher than him on the worldwide list as well.
That's what's confusing me. If those numbers are to be believed, there are four R&B titles outselling her...but only two titles overall selling her. And that simply doesn't make any sense, since an R&B title will obviously be in the "overall" list as well.
Again, I'm not bashing. I don't think Amazon's lying, or somebody's manipulating the numbers. I do know that Amazon has some squirrely ways of calculating their top sellers. (It isn't just "how many sold this week", but "how many sold over the past year in relation to how long it's been out", or something.) My overly logical mind just rebels when some digits are obviously wrong, that's all.

The album is obviously pre-selling well - I'd venture a guess of selling 180,000 copies first week. And unless something huge comes out next Tuesday that I don't know about, Whitney's pretty much guaranteed the number one album that week. (They should've put out THIS week - hardly anything came out.)
The CD is now #5 on Amazon overall...but #7 R&B. Problem still stands.
