Chart Beat Wednesday: Boyz II Men, Whitney Houston, Reba McEntire

by Gary Trust | November 03, 2009 7:08 EST

CAN'T SPELL WHITNEY WITHOUT H-I-T: In addition to Boyz II Men's bow, the Adult R&B chart sports a milestone mark for another format cornerstone.

Whitney Houston enters a four-way tie for most Adult R&B top 10s (13) among women in the chart's history, as "Million Dollar Bill" bounds 13-9. With the advance, Houston equals the chart-best top 10 totals of Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey.

If you promise to stop bumping all the whitney posts. Once they're both off the front page it's all yours.

That's right. Set that bitter queen straight! :=D:

.....he's nothing but a bitter queen who likes to troll Whitney Houston threads and throw around some hate in her threads. He just can't handle the fact that Whitney is back on top and shitting on all the other female singers right now with her new album. What a "loser" in every sense of the word, indeed. He keeps tryin to rain on a parade but keeps FAILING miserably. !oops!

HOUSTON TO MAKE WINTER RETURN TO RUSSIA

WHITNEY HOUSTON is heading to Russia to play a pair of wintry shows next month (Dec09).

The R&B star will perform at the Moscow Olympisky Stadium on 9 December (09) and at the fabled Ice Palace in St. Petersburg three days later.

Promoter Andrey Agapov says, "Whitney Houston is a legendary singer and performer, much loved by Russian audiences and fans worldwide. I'm thrilled to bring Ms. Houston back to her fans in Moscow and St. Petersburg."

The two dates are part of Houston's first global tour in 11 years. She last performed in Russia in 2004.

The second hat is in the ring as George Smitherman is now the lone candidate to challenge the officially announced mayoral candidacy (not the official candidacy, mind you) of councilor Giorgio Mammoliti. Smitherman is renowned as Ontario's first openly gay MPP, and the province's deputy premier, but comes with ready-formed notoriety as an aggressive politician dubbed "Furious George." For a taste of what to expect when Smitherman hits the campaign trail, here are a few greatest hits of outspokenness:

On announcing his candidacy intent: "A native son is coming home to serve."

On wearing adult diapers to ensure nursing home residents are getting adequate care: "I've got one of these incontinence products … on my desk and I'm really giving this matter very serious contemplation."

On controversial energy audits for homebuyers: "They taught me in some Grade 10 course - which was almost at the end of my stream of education - the notion of caveat emptor, buyer beware."

On music: "I've been working out to the new Whitney Houston. I'm a gay man, so I love Whitney."

On working with others: "Nobody should associate me with the status quo."

Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

What I'd like to know is if Whitney's voice is REALLY coming back. If it's the same as when she sang on Oprah, then it's not.

*Btw my dial up connection makes watching youtube videos difficult so that's why I'm asking for objective input!

Did you see her performance in Germany from last month (Oct)? She sang "I Look To You"... BETTER than the album version! She was hitting all the high notes and falsettos like it was nothin. Her voice is definitely coming back. Is it sometimes inconsistent? Yes, probably, but definitely improving. Compare this performance to her GMA performances just a month before where she had NO voice. Girl is definitely getting there! :=D:

And her performance of "Million Dollar Bill" live on X Factor Italy just a couple weeks ago:

She sounds GREAT! Better than the album version here too. Not to mention she worked the hell out of the crowd/stage. Stage presence is off the chain as always!

.....and DIAL UP??? Boy, what is this..1998?
:p

Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

yeah right, you'll get objective opinion from this guy. he still thinks it's 1998.

Re: New Whitney Album On Sale Today!

im a huge Whitney fan but let's be honest : Whitney's voice as in the Bodyguard years and the 80's ain't coming back. It's natural vocal decline, heavy touring for years and her personal problems that caused that. But the way she's going now she can match the vocals from the My love is your love era, i think her voice will improve during the tour. She hasn't sang for years so it needs some warming up;)
Whitney live has always been amazing (some bad performances aside). I think the vocals on I look to you are fine but live she will give these songs her signature and that's what makes Whitney a gifted live singer.

SUPREME EXCLUSIVE: WHITNEY HOUSTON TO PERFORM ON THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS!

With out a doubt the biggest comeback in music history has been nothing but a success! The miracle child we all know & love known as Whitney Houston had brought the goods with her new album I Look To You.

But, that was only the beginning! Whitney Houston will take to the stage & perform live for the first time in years on a major awards show. Word on the block is that Whitney has been officially added to the list of performers for this years American Music Awards, set to broadcast on Nov. 22nd.

According to reports:

That Grape Juice can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that diva Whitney Houston will be taking to the stage to perform at the American Music Awards on November 22nd. As at writing the legend will be performing 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength'.

Houston joins Janet Jackson, Rihanna among others, as a performer at the event. [source:]

Many people said she couldn't do but Whitney is killing the game right now. To top that off she will also take to the stage & perform on the season finale of ABC's Dancing With The Stars.

This is one performance I can't wait to see, especially after the last stunt she pulled at the Grammy's a few years back when she was on the ish.

"I'm always touched and I'm always amazed by all the ways that people interpret the songs that I write. I think probably Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You is about the prime example of takin' a song of mine that was so very simple and very heartfelt, and doin' it in a beautiful, grand, pop way. I just thought that was incredible. I'm always honoured when anybody records my songs. A lot of people say, "Oh, are you ever disappointed when people do your songs and they just slay 'em?" Not really, because they're still my songs, and I'm just flattered that they want to record them."

-Dolly Parton

I don't think there is anyone in their right minds who would ever think or say that Whitney's voice as in The Bodyguard era or 80s is ever coming back. That's impossible. Her voice is coming back, but it aint coming back THAT much.
