Whitney Houston kicks off her ‘Nothing But Love’ world tour in Korea…
Last night, legendary diva Whitney Houston kickstarted her ‘Nothing But Love’ world tour at the Olympic Park Gymnasium in southern Seoul, Korea. On my old blog, some of you would remember how I critically deep fried Whitney’s performances on both GMA and the X Factor last year. She was a nervous wreck who had lost her golden vocal abilities. On top of that, Whit barely put her mouth to the mic, and left all the complex runs and adlibs to her backing singers. After her X Factor performance I recall saying that Whitney looked cracked out (although she was probably just a tad bit tipsy). Then, to validate my conclusion even further, her brief interview with Dermott was like watching a deer in headlights.
.
I DO eat my words when I said that the 47-year-old had lost her prime. If last night’s concert was anything to go by, remnants of Whits old voice was seeping through like a ray of sunlight beaming through a semi-curtained window. Her performance of 92′ worldwide smash ‘I Will Always Love You’ was not a very euphonious vocal delivery but the voice was making a comeback on songs such as ‘Missing You’, ‘Exhale’, ‘I Look To You’ and ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’.
.
The amount of perspiration she gave showed that although Whitney’s belting was not as effortless as it was in the early days, her upper register was still rich and powerful. I was particularly impressed with her runs and adlibs, even if she partially lipsynched and sung to a backing track with some of the songs. I’m not sure if this was done due to Whitney being declared ill. Whitney insisted that during the latter half of the concert, she was not in the best of physical shape due to her cold.
.
I loved her performances of ‘Missin’ You’ and ‘I Look to You’ where she paid tribute to her old friend, the late great Michael Jackson. She had mentioned that two of her dancers had been part of the late King of Pop’s dance troupe. She also spoke of the tragedy in Haiti and requested a moment of silence for the victims. Overall, the crowd remained upbeat and full of cheer as she sung her way through a set of 20 songs. I’ve posted a couple of performances after the jump. Enjoy.

Whitney Houston launched her first tour in 10 years over the weekend in Seoul, South Korea. 11,000 fans converged on Olympic Park to see the pop diva perform on the first two dates of her “Nothing But Love” world tour.
The 46-year-old singer broke into a sweat as she ran through hits from her 25-year catalog, including classics like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I Will Always Love You” to newer fare such as “If I Told You That” and “Million Dollar Bill.”
She acknowledged her milestone in the music business. “I don’t want to tell you this, but I’ve been in show business for 30 years now. I can’t believe it myself. It seems like it was only yesterday,” she told her adoring fans.
Two of the late Michael Jackson’s dancers are now touring with Whitney, who sang “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” and “The Way You Make Me Feel” in memory of her “dear friend.”
