Video Preview: Whitney Houston Talks ‘Sparkle’ on ‘Access Hollywood’

Legendary head DIVA Whitney Houston recently sat down with Shaun Robinson ofAccess Hollywood for an interview on the set of upcoming movie sparkle. In the brief preview, the Grammy Award winner discusses how she had given up on Sparkle after Aaliyah passed and what made her want to take on the role again. Read more and watch the teaser below.

“I feel honored; I feel humbled that I am able to still do what I do and it just is fun, actually,” Whitney told Shaun — in an exclusive interview, which will air on Monday and Tuesday on Access — of her return to the screen.

“I think everybody’s going to love this film. I do, I think it’s going to be a loved film,” she added.

The project, near and dear to Whitney’s heart, took over a decade to make as the starring role was originally slated for R&B singer Aaliyah. After the then-22–year-old’s tragic death in 2001, the movie was shelved for years.

“This was [Aaliyah’s] movie,” Whitney told Shaun. “When we brought it to her, she was so enthusiastic about it and she wanted it, to do it so badly. She was our Sparkle.

“Unfortunately… it just didn’t go that way,” she continued. “I put it down. I said, ‘My Sparkle has gone to a better place,’ then we just left it alone.”

After bringing the project to life again with “American Idol” Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks in the title role, Whitney said she strongly identified with her character (playing Jordin’s mother).

“I just, I felt it. I felt the role,” she told Shaun. “I felt the love a woman has for her children — in the ‘60s, the late ‘60s, trying to keep her family together, single mother.”

Whitney truly seems excited and has her heart and soul attached to this project. I am looking forward to her return on screen and seeing this remake. Catch Whitney’s interview with Shaun on Monday and Tuesday (11/14, 11/15). Check your local listings for additional information and times. We will have the video here once it’s online.

Buzzmakers: Whitney's Comeback, Humphries' Divorce

November 12, 2011

This week's top stories in the entertainment world included Whitney Houston's return to the big screen, Kris Humphries shock at Kim Kardashian filing for divorce, Kim Kardashian going on the record about the divorce, Nick Jonas' new acting gig and Christina McLarty getting her honorary Victoria's Secret angel wings.

Singer Whitney Houston is preparing to hit the big screen with Jordin Sparks in the Motown-era musical drama Sparkle. This marks the first movie Houston has been in since 1996's The Preacher's Wife.

Kris Humphries' father, William Humphries, came out and said that Kim Kardashian's filing for divorce after only 72 days of marriage came as a shock as his son found out through the media. William told Life & Style, "How could someone do that? Kris was completely surprised. The news was already published before he found out!"

Facing the media for the first time since her filing for divorce from Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian went to her blog in order to squash rumors of her short-lived marriage and even spoke to the Australian press about it. "When I landed I got all these emails about these different stories and I just think that's what hurts the most, it's just that people don't know the truth. They just make up what they want and run with it."

Nick Jonas nabbed a guest spot on ABC's Last Man Standing. The youngest Jonas brother will play Ryan, the jobless young man who bailed after fathering a child with Mike's (Tim Allen) daughter in the Christmas-themed episode.

ET's special correspondent Christina McLarty met up with Victoria's Secret model Lily Aldridge and a got a neat gift: her own angel wings! Lily has already donned the coveted accessory during the 2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which has already been taped and will air on Tuesday, November 29, only on CBS.

Whitney Houston Confirms She Will Reprise Her Role for the 'Waiting To Exhale' Sequel

getting-to-happy.jpg

Waiting-To-Exhale.jpg

Whitney Houston is still fresh on filming her new movie 'Sparkle', but that hasn't stopped the legendary diva from confirming her next project; Waiting To Exhale's sequel: Getting To Happy, to Access Hollywood. In a two-part interview with Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson, Houston gave Robinson the exclusive confirmation that many fans and movie goers have been wondering for nearly a year since Terry McMillan announced her book sequel to the landmark classic.

Whitney tells Shaun:

“You know what, that Terry McMillan, she keeps calling me about that ‘Waiting to Exhale 2,’” Whitney, who starred in the 1995 original, told Shaun; referring to the author whose 1992 book inspired the film.

“I guess it’s inevitable. If my three other friends, my three ladies… I think they’re all in,” she said of co-stars Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon.

“I just have to - I’m just settling down, just getting this current movie under my belt and once I finish with this,” Whitney said of “Sparkle,” which also stars “American Idol” Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks. “Well, I’m not going to say no”, Whitney says with a smile.

In “Waiting To Exhale,” Whitney played Savannah Jackson, a woman waiting for her lover to leave his wife – a character that has more to say according to the star.

“Savannah has to be there, she has to come back,” Whitney added.

Houston originally starred as Savannah in the 1995 blockbuster film alongside Angela Bassett, Loretta Divine, and Lela Rochan; not to mention, Waiting To Exhale gave us one of the most cohesive, biggest selling R&B albums of all time led by Houston's # 1 Billboard smash, Exhale (Shoop Shoop).

With her demons in her past, Ms Houston seems to be on the road to redemption. Her natural glow has graced us once again, and that smile of hers has always been infectious.

Two things are for sure, Houston's star power and stage presence has never been lacking; she exudes a woman with natural charisma without trying. We wish the best for her in her future endeavours.

Full Cast Returning for ‘Waiting to Exhale’ Sequel

angela-bassett-on-the-talk.jpg

During a visit to “The Talk” last week, Angela Bassett says she has signed on to reteam with Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon for a sequel to “Waiting to Exhale.” The movie, adapted from Terry McMillan’s 1992 novel of the same name, was directed by Forest Whitaker. Bassett responded to recent speculation that the original cast are ready to reunite for the sequel, saying, “It’s preliminary, but Waiting to Exhale 2 is going to happen. McMillan wrote ‘Getting to Happy’ and she’s written the screenplay. … Loretta, Lela, Whitney, Forest. Forest is working on the script now.” The 1995 film was a financial success, opening at No. 1 at the North American box-office and grossing $14.1 million in its first weekend of release. In total the movie made $67 million in the U.S. and a further $14.4 million internationally.

Whitney Houston: Sparks needed mommy hugs

added: 15 Nov 2011 // by: newsdesk

Whitney Houston gave Jordin Sparks plenty of 'mommy hugs' on the set of their new movie.

The pair star in a remake of Sparkle, about three sisters who form a successful singing group and have to deal with the fallout of fame and drugs.

This is Jordin's first big screen outing and Whitney could relate to how nervous the young star was feeling.

"I can remember doing The Bodyguard, my first movie, and I was petrified. I was working with Kevin Costner, the hottest in Hollywood,' she told Access Hollywood. 'So every now and then I would go over to her and give her mommy hugs, you know what I am saying, good mommy hugs.

"But Jordin has it down."

In the movie, Jordin plays the title role while Whitney is her mother, Emma.

The 21-year-old ' who won the sixth season of American Idol ' was initially in awe of Whitney. However, she insists the singing legend soon made her feel comfortable.

"I was around her quite a lot and I would be singing and she walks by and I would think, 'Oh, I better be quiet!' But she has been so sweet and so nurturing," Jordin revealed.

Whitney hasn't appeared on the big screen since 1996 drama The Preacher's Wife.

However, the 48-year-old star ' who has battled drug use - felt the time was right to make a return in the music drama.

"I am older, I have matured,' she explained. 'I feel honoured, I feel humbled that I am still able to do what I do."

"I have an 18-year-old daughter, I felt the love this woman has for her children, in the late 60s, a single mother trying to keep her family together. I just felt that passion for it, and when it was suggested I play the mother I said, 'OK, I think I can do this. I've had the practice.''
