The Patti Labelle Appreciation Thread

I LOVE HER ! Have you ever heard her rendition of Over The Rainbow? OUTSTANDING (!)

This one has and always will be my fav Patti song! I can never get enough of her performing this live!

This is my first time seeing some these performances and she is an incredible performer, in addition to being an amazing vocalist. She is certainly underrated in that aspect.

2011 BET Awards Tonight: Patti LaBelle honored with LifeTime Award

Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Beyonce Ready To Rock The BET Awards

6/24/11 1:47 pm ET by D.L. Chandler

The upcoming 2011 BET Awards Los Angeles is packed with of star power as the cable network recognizes entertainers who impacted the African-American audience. Marked last year with big moments, such as an emotional Chris Brown crying during a Michael Jackson tribute, many fans are wondering how this year’s big moments will unfold. Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the awards ceremony will focus on the music industry’s movers and shakers along with giving nods to top Hollywood actors and sports figures.

Patti LaBelle will be recognized for her five decades in music and Steve Harvey will be honored for his philanthropic contributions at this year's BET Awards. BET says LaBelle will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award and Harvey will accept the Humanitarian Award.

This year’s slated performers include big name heavy-hitters with R&B and Hip Hop staple Mary J. Blige carrying the torch and leading the way for a talented array of fellow veteran singers such as Best Female artist nominee Beyoncé, Alicia Keys and Jill Scott.

Could there be a reunion between the Texas gal pals Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé? Will Mary J defer to the younger generation of stars or will the queen of Hip Hop and R&B show the ladies how it’s done? Will Beyoncé pull out all the stops as she preps to drop her latest album 4?
Nominated for Best Male R&B Artist awards, heartthrobs Chris Brown and Trey Songzwill undoubtedly turn on the charm for the ladies. Will Chris Brown keep his shirt on for the studio audience or will he try to rev up his sex symbol status? Will Trey Songz seduce the audience with a soulful ballad or will he excite the crowd? Will Rihanna be in attendance to witness her former beau in action?

Young Money will be making a strong presentation in Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj – with Minaj up for three awards and a rumored squashing of the beef between her and Lil Kim. Will the YM collective all join in on each other’s set for the first time at an awards show or will the crew focus on their solo hits? Drake and Nicki Minaj kept the Young Money ship afloat while their captain was incarcerated and the team is back at full strength after Wayne’s release from prison last year.

Maybach Music Group mogul Rick Ross has had another monster year as the Florida rapper continues to grow his MMG record label roster and dole out smash hits at will. Will Rozay “bawse” up and bring out new signees Pill, Meek Mill, and Wale or will he attempt to steal the show with his own bevy of hit tunes? DJ Khaled, an ally of Ross, and fellow Floridian Ace are also set to hit the stage as well.

Although Nicki Minaj will also be rocking out with Britney Spears across town during the Femme Fatale tour stop in Anaheim the same night, the rapper is in contention with Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and boy band Mindless Behavior for the BET FANdemonium Award where fans vote on their favorite artists. However reports say Nicki will be in the building with fans wondering if the rumors of a Minaj and Lil Kim joint performance will hold true.

This year’s BET Awards is rife with subplots, big names and is sure to be filled with the top names in entertainment in their fashion forward best. Be sure to tune in to BET tonight (June 26) at 8pm ET for the live showing for the 2011 BET Awards.

This should be an interesting show...Actor/Comedian Kevin Hart is hosting..Not a Fan of his "stand-up" but we'll see how he holds it down tonight...

Every year Rap Artists usually rule the stage. I'm glad the Producers decided to add more R&B & Gospel performers this go-round.

The Tribute to Patti should be a "Must-See"....Every year someone tweets pics of the performers rehearsing for the "Tribute segment"..This year no tweets have been sent and BET hasnt said who's singing to Patti tonight...Very interesting...

Will Chris Brown Take The Lead at the BET Awards?

June 25, 2011 08:10 PM EDT

by Stephanie Gustafson

Having been nominated six times, there is a good chance that Chris Brown will win big at the 2011 BET Awards. The star has more nominations than Drake, Rihanna, Usher, Lil' Wayne, and Kanye West. Surely with this many nominations, Brown will come away with at least one big award.

Chris Brown is nominated in the following categories: Best Male R&B Artist, Best Actor, Video of the Year, Viewer's Choice, and Best Collaboration (twice!). Also nominated for Best Male R&B Artist are singers Bruno Mars, Usher, Trey Songz, and Cee Lo Green.

Although he has six nominations, Chris Brown won't just be attending the 2011 BET Awards to rack up trophies. He is scheduled to perform at the awards show, so are artists Drake, Jill Scott, Lil' Wayne, and Alicia Keys. His biggest challenge won't be giving a killer performance (he's proven his capability many times over) but overcoming the negative press after shouting gay slurs at photographers on Wednesday. Although he has apologized to the Human Rights Campaign, his behavior may leave a negative taste difficult for viewers to overcome...[-X.....

Chris is his own worst Enemy..I like some of his Music & videos..He's very talented but he's so immature and acts like he's incapable of thinking before he Reacts to Shit....It's HARD for me to have an ounce of sympathy for these Entertainers when they are stuck on Stupid and lack self-control......What is going on with him when he can't even give a DECENT Press-Conference?....Come on Chris...He's just PROOF that "Fine" looking people are just as Crazy as they wanna be..

Should everybody Hate Chris?

Honestly, Chris Brown is just great at performing. His ability to dance and sing do not translate into anything more unfortunately. He's still young, so the fact that he could come back from beating Rihanna and have a strong career shows that people will support him under most circumstances, gay slurs and all. He's not in a position where he has to change because the public does not care that much about his behaviors and his handlers realize that he is still marketable (see $$$).
