Oh so basically it's when a show starts to suck right?
It means when the show lost its magic. It comes from when on Happy Days the fonz jumped a shark pool on his bike.
He was water-skiing, not on a bike. I don't know what a "shark pool" is but he was jumping a shark which was in the ocean.
It was very important that I cleared that up.

It's kind of what Friends did the last 3 seasons I'd say.
Oh sorry.
I just read about it. I knew it came from Happy Days. But its way before my time.![]()
OI!
I'm 24! 4 years younger than you. Age is no excuse for pop culture ignorance. A better excuse would be having a life![]()

Its a bit of an over-used phrase these days, to be honest.
Plus, a show can "jump the shark" and then get its mojo back. 'Frasier' is a classic example.
The website devoted to it is ludicrous as people have shows listing as jumping the shark from the 1st episode, which contradicts the whole concept.
Or like when on the sitcom 'Rhoda'. When she married Joe, at that point it jumped the shark.
