This thread reminds me of the swastika in the snow.

Ten or so years ago, after a light dusting of snow, it was discovered that someone had drawn a swastika with their finger on the back window of a car. The car was parked in Boro Park, which is a hasidic neighborhood.

It seems to me that drawing a swastika in 1/4 inch of snow is a pretty lameass passive-aggressive gesture. Probably not the work of a hardcore Nazi, who I assume would prefer to use spray paint. Or worse.

But it was taken seriously. Very seriously. The pearl clutching that ensued was epic. News stories on the local channels. News sites leaped on it, running huge photos of the offending insignia.

What is the purpose of an swastika? To be seen. To instill awareness or fear or intent of threat. A visual marker that screams we're here. we're fascist, get used to it.

So what did all this virtuous outrage do? What did broadcasting the image on television and reprinting it in 250,000 copies of the Daily News do? What does bolstering the image of any insignia do?

It gave it power. It broadened it's reach. It ruined the day for thousands of Jews who otherwise would have been unaware of it. It actualized it's hateful purpose.

All because some stoned kid probably thought it would be funny to scrawl a curvy, poorly rendered symbol in the snow. He might have not even known what it meant.

What should have happened is whoever found it should have taken a fucking broom and erased it before it could hurt someone else.


So far, this dumbass video has been re-posted twice. Once would have been too much. Everyone who looks at this thread, be they a member here or some troll crawling around the internet has a direct link to it's creator and all of his content. Why not erect a billboard?

Right now there's a whole lot of angry people in poor Kentucky counties who fear they will lose their Medicaid and food stamps. Racism always ends it's cycle by coming back and hurting it's perpetrators. The same is true of overheated liberalism.

It is why it's my wish that this thread be taken down. Nothing personal, Charon, I'm actually very glad you're back posting, but there's enough hate and AI on the internet already. The last thing it needs is another platform.

Thankyou Edd, for a clip from Soul Train. We never saw the show in my country, our loss, so many fantastic musicians performed in that low budget studio, I wish I could have been there to see them. And what a dramatic contrast between real people having a real good time dancing to real entertainers and that other thing that started the thread.
