The Pope, when asked if gay men should be allowed to become Roman Catholic priests, has reportedly said they should not because the church is already too "frociaggine". Huge outrage. Apparently it means something like too "faggoty".

Who knew? I thought being a gay man had always been an essential requirement of the priesthood. Just think of all the dressing up, smouldering handbags, choirboys and all the rest of it.

Well, the church is so anti-gay and anti-sex. What do they expect when they teach spiritually minded, vulnerable young gay boys to hate and fear themselves? The church becomes a place for seminarians to not have to deal with women, and to escape from themselves and hide their sexuality. That part of their emotional growth gets repressed, trapped, and frozen in adolescence. Later, when they cannot hide from themselves any longer, they're adults whose emotional sexuality has never matured beyond a teenager. They become overwhelmed, and it explodes as abusive pedophilia. Not everyone, of course. Some, maybe many, are able to work through it and become good priests. But also, many can't, and I think this is a major factor in the church's abuse issues. They bring it on themselves. The same thing happens in the anti-gay, anti-sex protestant denominations as well.

Two different things.

Apologies do not make trangressions right. They merely demonstrate the humility of a man who agrees he made a mistake.

If apologies meant nothing, families of murder victims would not constantly mention that the killer never showed remorse.

Societies do highly value confessions and apologies, and they keep score when those who are stubborn will not conceded.

We have a brilliant example in the classified documents cases of Presidents Trump and Biden, and Vice-President Pence. Trump is rightly held in contempt for his denials, his lies, and his deceit of discovery, which are in strong contrast to Pence and Biden who did not arrogantly deny their misdeeds.

Whether the Holy Father will be remembered for his many defenses of gays or for his gaffe will be seen after he had died. From the change in tone he has encouraged, my suspicion is that gay Catholics will continue to see him as an ally, not as a duplicitous politician.
