This is certainly a shift. I've always figured that the Catholic Church saw itself as a sort of "saved soul" factory that can turn sinners into saints with all those sacraments and rules. Plus you have the traditional take that only through Jesus Christ can one even hope for Heaven. What is JUB's take on this? Maybe Christianity is starting to grow more friendly towards universalism?
My parents are Christian ( mom Catholic and dad Anglican) and as far as I can remember they've always told me that heaven is for every one and not only to the believers and I can remember that I've learnt that in my catechism classes when I was a child. Is God not about forgiveness and Jesus dead to save our souls ? Now I can't say that I'm a christian even if I've been baptized, I grew myself out of any religion I'm not gonna say that I'm an atheist either as I do believe but not in things written by the hand of man. Plus I've always heard this sentence told by my father :" heureux les simples d'esprit car le royaume des cieux leur est ouvert." should I translate it in English ? It should be something like : "be the fools happy as kingdom of heaven is opened to them."
