I used to walk up them but then I realized that it was stupid and I could just rest and enjoy the ride and the view. So I just stand.

If there's people on the escalator in front of me, I ride. If there is no one, I will walk up/down. I've got an extremely long stride when I walk; 32 inches to 36 inches per step; and, I have always taken stairs at 2 to 3 risers at a time (both up or down), the standard 7 inch high riser is just too short for my stride. An escalator's higher riser height is just right to ramble up/down them
