That would seem to imply that the Titanic is still here and sailing.

I'd argue for "If the Titanic had sunk ..." though it would make more sense to complete the clause with "... in 2022, ..."

The pedant cartoon is one of the best posted on here in years.

The observation that your Titanic post was not enjoyed because someone followed it with a grammar ding is wrong. The Titanic meme is still getting funny comments, and the grammar discussion is as entertaining at the meme was.

Pedantry is its own fun.
