1 - Do not consider "dressing up" as "costuming up": being yourself and dressing like it is not a well-intended moral rule, it is a plain, cold aesthetic law.

A groom in flip-flops and shorts would look better than in those wrinkled, oversized pants and shirt and jacket that make him look like a kid wearing his grandad's clothes to church, and his bride like a princess marrying a pauper right out from a garbage can.

Of course, if cluelessly aping a well-dressed person is part of being yourself, you are doing it right in that funny way too.

2 - If you go to the theatre to feel alive, do not dress like you are going to be reduced to ashes or being fed to the bugs.

3 - If you would not have cared about your own rules a few years ago, do not expect to be heeded by anyone else now that you are a grumpy, sore, pontificating old fart.

4 - Be dressed as a corpse like you would be dressed when going to the theatre. And, please, abstain, as much as you can, of eating and drinking over a dead body at a funeral.
