Sometimes you just cant win.

Obama widens lead over Romney despite jobs data: Reuters/Ipsos poll | Reuters

“In his speech last night, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro said that Mitt Romney has no idea how good he’s had it. I don’t think that’s true. I think Mitt Romney knows how good he’s had it. He just doesn’t want us to know how good he’s had it.” –Jay Leno

“Last week at the Republican convention, no one mentioned the Tea Party. And listen to this, if it wasn’t for Ann Romney, no one at the Republican convention would have mentioned Mitt.” –David Letterman

“Michelle Obama said the first car Barack picked her up in was so old, you could see ground below them. Today, Ann Romney said the same thing about Mitt’s first helicopter.” –Conan O’Brien

“First lady Michelle Obama is receiving praise for the speech she gave last night at the Democratic National Convention. Everyone was impressed. Even Fox News called it ‘not the worst.’” –Jimmy Fallon

“Much like the Republicans, the Democrats are also going to have a mystery speaker. I believe it’s Mitt Romney’s dog.” –Jay Leno

“Chuck Norris said that if President Obama is re-elected it will lead ‘to a thousand years of darkness.’ Then he said if Mitt Romney wins, it will lead to four years of extreme whiteness.” –Conan O’Brien

Surely by now even the village idiots understand that no one is going to magically create 12 million private sector jobs...while at the same time gutting the public employment sector.

The jobs will return when the middle class can produce a vigorous demand for goods and services that are produced in America.

Until then...."Brother can you paradigm?"

Romney is going to continue to slide as his mud slinging adds blanket the airwaves. I think the american people are at a point beyond sick of the buying washington thing, and Romney is pushing people all the time.

I do think we need to wait a week longer to find out if the bounce is maintained. That's been the standard in years past. You have to remember though, that at about the time the convention bounce passes, the debates will be occurring

Mark my words, I fully expect the RNC to unleash a huge attack using gay marriage as the wedge issue, in all the swing states and across the South. The ads will tend to be regional rather than national, because that way they can pick and choose to run the ads only in states that lean anti-gay, and they may pick up two or three swing states they may have otherwise not gotten. I can see that "working" in states like Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia (if that is a swing state at all, I never see it mentioned as one).

[SARCASM]Gay marriage, of course, is the most important wedge issue since flag burning, which is CONSTANTLY happening everywhere.[/SARCASM]

I hope they do open a wedge issue for gay marriage. Since +70% of America likes it then it can only harm Mittens.

Like this one, looks regional to me.

There's already one underway by that POS Gary Bauer and his "Campaign for American Values" PAC. They plan on carpet bombing the swing states with his badly acted hate propaganda.

EDIT: Telstra, you beat me to the video by seconds! I just removed the one I posted.

I got an interesting email today from DailyKos. Read it if you wanta. I liked it!

Obama Would Be Big Favorite With 'Fired Up' Base - NYTimes.com

Obama Would Be Big Favorite With ‘Fired Up’ Base
By NATE SILVER

There’s one advantage that President Obama has that Mitt Romney probably doesn’t. If he can get a good turnout from his base, he’ll be the heavy favorite to win in November — even if Mr. Romney gets a strong turnout as well.

On average over the last five public surveys, 35 percent of registered voters identify themselves as Democrats and 30 percent as Republicans. That advantage is down somewhat for Democrats since 2008, but it is an advantage nevertheless.

^ The problem is that an incumbent can never really fire up their base the same way a challenger can.

There were as many people voting against Bush in 2008 (even though he wasn't running...as there were people voting for Hope and Change.

This year, the Republicans can rouse the hoi polloi to vote against Obama...but he's going to have a hell of a time getting the big turn-out from all of those who feel a little or a lot let down by everything from Guantanamo to the compromises on Obamacare.

At this point, I'm not predicting good voter turnout in November.

I have to say though that the Republicans stooping once again to using homo hate as their bait to get the knuckle dragging bible thumping Nascar moms to the polling booth is depressing beyond belief. And it will be regional.

I also expect them to use illegal alien anchor babies, illegal immigration and islamophobia in niche markets as well.

Sorry this is off topic (it's too early for me to form complete sentences) but, to my pre-coffee eyes I looked at that and saw "hot polio" and that "what the FUCK is he talking about?" Eventually I focused enough to realize you were NOT saying hot polio. ;)

As for wedge issues, we are always surprised (every four years) when we are dragged out of the closet (so to speak) to fire up the base with hatred and fear. Fortunately, I truly believe we are evolving enough as a nation that those tried and true tricks will become less effective and will eventually backfire (check out the overwhelming number of comments on the Gary Bauer video from posters that find it absolutely ridiculous.)

Morning Joe was raking the Romney/Ryan ticket over the coals this morning for their piss poor performances on the Sunday shows yesterdays (which I saw) in which they went before the American people in a planned one-two punch and said absolutely NOTHING of any substance. Joe was fired up over the idea that, if these two think they can "coast" to an election win without giving any specifics of their "economic plan," they are sadly mistaken and can expect a 52-48 loss.

Interesting analysis of the post convention "Obama Bounce" in historical context and what, if anything, it may mean in "The New Republic"

It isn't just me then.

I scanned the Sunday shows and the after coverage to see if following the opportunity to rally their thoughts after the DNC, these two big swinging dicks would dazzle the Lord's Day crowds getting ready for a day of televised sports and deliver a hard hitting and attention grabbing and aggressive strategic plan leading up to the debates.

It seemed so...flaccid...

I think we all get it.

America needs jobs. LOTS of jobs.

America has to get the books in ORDER!

So tell us Mutt (or is that Mitt) 'n Jeff.

How are you planning for your State imposed four year plan to peoples' prosperity to work. Oh. And remember. Foreign wars aren't allowed.

The point of the email, which I didn't mention, was to get all that received the email to contact, contact, contact everyone. Get everyone to the polls.

Obviously the most important and easiest thing to do to improve employment is to stop making it worse. Stop bringing in millions and millions of immigrants legal and illegal, giving them affirmative action and green cards and welfare.

The truth is, there is nothing in either of these men's histories to indicate that they even KNOW what a solution could be much less communicate it as a campaign process.

These two guys are still riding on two assumptions....

One... that money will fix the polls problem. They are going to blitz the nation with ads in the last days of the election

Two... That being anti Obama is enough and they don't need to say anything more.

Both seem to show a disconnect with what is happening in the social media, a place where the president outspends Romney ten to one in actual dollars, and a misunderstanding that while the GOP base HATES Obama? ... the rest of the nation is Ok with him and consider him personally likable, yet could have been convinced to change sides early on.

Their inability to mistake hate with general weariness led them to a path whereby they thought they didn't need a plan, or a vision for america, other than one without Obama.

People are talking to each other, here and in other places online, and they are actually engaged, reading what is true and what is not, and making a real choice.

All the pigeons are coming back to roost for the GOP. The Women and the Latinos of this nation will NEVER consider Romney to be the best choice of the two because of his Veep pick. He Allowed the president to in a very real way, run against the do nothing congress that is so hated.

The Ryan pick still baffles me... the guy picked someone from the most hated political body in the history of America as his running mate.

Romney and the GOP now have to carry the burden of being obstructionists during a time of great american need. The voters are going to slap the whole mess down.

Do you remember the "Voter Guides" The Christian Coalition (Pat Robertson and the loathsome Ralph Reed) distributed back in the 1990s to churches before elections? They claimed these were non partisan but the way the questions were set up was ridiculous. My Dad went to this right wing church back then and knowing I'd find it interesting he brought me one. (Dad was a Democrat, by the way)

Examples:

Supports killing babies = Bill Clinton
Supports life = Bob Dole

Promotes homosexuality = Clinton
Supports families = Dole

Christian Coalition Readies `Voter Guide' Blitz Today - Philly.com

Deception in the name of Christ!

Dole lost to Clinton.

During the election my Dad thought Dole was alright and was thinking about voting for him. He changed his mind after I told him how Bob Dole was screwing around, left his wife and teenage daughter to ran away with his secretary, Elizabeth Dole. My Dad was big on fidelity. He wondered why this was never mentioned and I told him that's something they didn't want you to know.

I've already heard on the street the idea that Romney picked someone who is part of the problem, being from Congress.

I just received the email Obama's campaign has utilized their grassroots ability and have outraised Mitt Romney for the first time in August after three months of being outraised by the republican corruption ticket ($114 million to $111 million)... the people want to see him re-elected... while the majority of the republican's $$$ is coming from the Koch Brothers and other nefarious sources. Still there is a lot more to be done as corrupt CEOs are funding the entire republican ticket.

I don't understand why Bill Gates doesn't just write a check for $250 million to a PAC which would just replay Clinton's speech.

Add to this Mitt's "well I didn't mean I would get rid of ALL of Obamacare and I'm HAPPY to keep the parts people LIKE" ooopps scratch that "of COURSE I will get rid of those parts and the MARKETPLACE will dictate coverage and I never meant to imply otherwise on videotape" (?????????) and he is really starting to look more and more like a desperate also-ran.
