  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

The Queen is Dead. Long live the King.

I’d just look at a picture on the internet and save the £8 mill.

I regularly use the Post Office and look forward to seeing a portrait of His Majesty on my next visit.

As a youngster, I was greatly amused by the old people who would anxiously watch the mail for there bills to arrive because, to them, it was an invitation to the next social event- going to the post office and utilities companies to line up and chat with their pals.:)

And Walmart can print it out for those who absolutely must have it stuck on the front of their refrigerators.:)

If you are looking at this, you have access to the internet.

Good for Meghan.

Of course she will be excoriated for not being there...because the gutter press in England thrives on this fake drama...

And God knows why Sarah would want to be within 100 miles of her ex or his horrible family. Maybe Andy can get Ghislaine Maxwell as his plus one?
The whole thing was such a strategic error on her part. She was HRH, and no amount of tabloid nonsense could change that. She didn't understand her power to destroy the juvenile opposition simply by behaving as though they don't even slightly matter to her. She didn't even need to muster haughty regal disdain, literally just obliviousness would have been fine.

"Your Highness, what do you make of all the catty juvenile racist nonsense in the tabloid press?"

"Oh do you mean they say unkind things? I hadn't noticed, to be honest." There is literally no mud that a british newspaper can fling which would withstand that shoulder shrug.

The Patriarchs in Jerusalem have used the left over oil to rustle up some nibbles. Looks like mini pizzas or quiches.

You read it here first!

The Coronation Quiche

In celebration of Coronation Big Lunches taking place over the Coronation weekend, Their Majesties have shared a recipe for a Coronation Quiche - featuring spinach, broad beans and tarragon.

Do you think Their Majesties read Hot Topics to find inspiration? They could do worse.

It is one thing to ignore the press. It is another thing entirely to be able to ignore the rest of the family and the palace.

We have the example of how Camilla and the Palace destroyed Diana.

If Meghan had been the wife of a future King, it might have been bearable. But she is the wife of Harry...who isn't even likely the son of Charles.

They were lucky to escape while they could.

Let the press eventually turn on Wills and Kate's clan. And the rest of the worthless ribbon cutters on the Royal List, like Andy, Eddie et al.

"They were lucky to escape while they could"

Only they didn't escape. They are obsessed with reminding the world at every possible turn how royal they are.

No. Not at every turn....you can go for days and days or even months where they aren't the ones out there flakking. Almost all the buzz comes from the Fleet Street gutter press who have nothing else to drive the engine.

As for 'Spare'...I am glad it was written and hope it helps tarnish the tawdry arriviste Hanover/Battenburg legacy...if not bring down the whole thing like the House of Cards it is.

Harry did his time in service. Meghan was a self-made millionaire when they married. They basically are asking for nothing from the privy purse or the house of windsor at this point.

For what it is worth, Harry is royal. And by virtue of birth, so are his sprog. Unless, as I expect, the Palace will one day declare him illegitimate.

When I look at a mess like Andrew and then at Harry...I know who is the nobler of the two.

Well the Palace may have really fucked this up.

Only 14% of Brits apparently think that Camilla should become queen. Ouch.

Jesusmarynjoseph, where do they dig these morons up‽ :telstra: When I was at primary school, in the twentieth century, we had lessons on this stuff. Every child knew that the wife of a king is the queen consort.

A queen consort is the wife of a reigning king, and usually shares her spouse's social rank and status ... The title and style of a queen consort is, like that of a queen regnant, "Her Majesty the Queen".

As for the Duchess of Cornwall ...

Duke of Cornwall is a title in the Peerage of England, traditionally held by the eldest son of the reigning British monarch ... Prince William became Duke of Cornwall following the accession of his father, King Charles III, to the throne in 2022, and his wife, Catherine, became Duchess of Cornwall.

We were also drilled in the precise drawing of the Union Jack. Mr Davies gave us all a big sheet of paper and explained the correct positioning and width of each line and we had to draw the flag and colour it in. Not only is one side of the white St Andrew's cross wider than the other, the proportions must be right. That was in those days.

In other news, it's hardly surprising that the Chuckster wants the Coronation to be short, he probably still remembers being bored as hell at the last one. The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret just couldn't wait for the bar to open.

She may be officially a consort, but Camilla is definitely being styled and presented as Queen. And that is what the Palace expects her to be referred to.

This is consistent with how Elizabeth, the wife of George, was styled. Throughout his reign she was referred to as Queen. Likewise Mary was styled as Queen.

In this case though, Camilla won't have the dignity of the title as King Mother should Chuckles pre-decease her.

I think I remember reading that "Queen Mother" -- specifically, "Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother" -- was a title Elizabeth II basically invented to confer on her mother. Before that, the surviving wife of a deceased king would have been called the Dowager Queen, wouldn't she?

I think Queen Mary was often referred to as the Dowager Queen after the death of her husband.

Again, although she was Queen Consort...she was almost invariably styled in the press and announcements as Queen.

If the Palace is wise, they will make sure that in the Coronation, Camilla is referred to as Queen Consort to Charles and that there is no inference that she is being crowned as Queen.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. The wife of the King is the Queen. Period. It's not necessary to keep adding "Consort", although that's what Camilla clearly is. Any suggestion that she's about to be crowned as some sort of joint monarch, a modern day William and Mary perhaps, is obviously and completely ridiculous.
