  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

The Queen is Dead. Long live the King.

Just looking at the huge security detail that surrounds the orange idiot, and compare it with our royal family's and PM's ....
When you are the world's most unpopular human being, it takes a lot to keep you alive.

In view of the continuing allegations against Prince Andrew, it has been announced that he is giving up his royal titles, including Duke of York. Although the news report talks about "removal" of the titles, Prince Andrew's statement only says he will "no longer use" them, which is not quite the same thing.

^ I suppose if the king were to strip him of his titles it would look like a punishment for having jiggy-jig with a minor. If he just relinquishes them he can continue to deny it. But what has he lost of any worth, really? As the Bible says, we brought bugger all into this world and we ain't gonna take jack shit out of it when we go (I'm paraphrasing slightly). He's still got a family and a home and a full fridge, and he's old enough to retire anyway.

I'm wondering why the duchess is reverting to her maiden name. Don't divorced women normally keep the ex's surname? I can't see why she isn't Princess Andrew of Windsor.

Isn't it about time for Trump to swoop in and take the throne, anyway.

History shows us that it isn't hard to do.:)

Leave it to the Hanovers' leftovers to always somehow get it wrong.

And to somehow always do things to draw attention to the tone deaf decisions the 'Palace' is renowned for.

Honestly, would anyone have really given a toss if he had just sloped off to some Caribbean island and stopped using his titles? No.

Has he ever really been value added to the royal duty roster?

And did Sarah Ferguson really merit the title of Duchess of York. After their divorce she should have lost it.

Or their daughters retaining the titles of Princess? Really?

The Windsors seem to have a knack for de-valuing the meaning of titles by virtue of thinking that every living outcome of 'royal' sperm or egg should be awarded one.

They only keep highlighting how utterly useless and anachronistic they are. But God Bless the British press for propping them up as a living puppet show for all these decades and for the post war generation for their devotion to this royal rabble.

At least Gary Glitter served his time for what he did, and he did have talent, as a successful singer.
Andy, on the other hand has never repaid his debt to society and if had any talent, it has been well hidden.
I would love to hear his Andy's version of this song, the lyrics are perfect for him.

His debt to society? Prince Andrew sounds like a thoroughly unpleasant man, but he's never been convicted of any offence. It's alleged that he had sex with Virginia Roberts when she was 17 years old and, let's face it, working as a prostitute, and there are jurisdictions outside the UK where 17 is under-age. It's also unusual for someone to pay £12 million to a woman they'd never had any contact with, but innocent until proven guilty and all that.

The alternative is to have an Act of Parliament strip him of the various titles he still has.
The excuse seems to be that it would be a waste of Parliament time to do so when he can just not use them. I am willing ot bet that he will see that as a slight win.

Twelve million spenders is an impressive admission of something to hide but you are right, lets give him the benefit of the doubt.
Because, however unintendedly, he has done the country a favour in helping to speed up the downfall of that anti democratic waste of money that is his family.

Actually, I think it is more about the Palace being terrified of the noise around the event....it would potentially be another blow against the Battenburg lucky sperm club dynasty...with lots of anti-monarchist sentiment rising up amongst the Brits again. Even the current parliament isn't positioned to deal with that uproar.

For all the occasional expressions of anti-monarchist sentiment among the left leaning parties, the government knows that the monarchy is good business for the last remmants of their empire.

ChuckCo. may not be spared from the shit slopping over the rim of the bucket this week as Virginia Guiffre's book hits the stands. As I noted in another thread, it may be waht precipitated The announcement this week that Andy would not be using his royal titles henceforth.

But as I noted above, it will perhaps not satisfy the hounds baying for blue blood in the Commons.

^ And of course even the upper tier media like BBC make the whole thing revolve around Andy.

Although, I suppose, if there wasn't some scandal to frame the story, the visit would only have merited a page in 'Hello' magazine.

The King is attending his first official event in support of the LGBT community today. The venue is not far from here, but I have no plans to go.

Long time coming, but at least they didn't just fob it off to one of the minor royal ribbon cutters and wreath layers.
