The Queen is Dead. Long live the King.

If anything, the remake appears to be the product of the hand of Albert, with Victoria having agreed. There's nothing like the ambition of a minor royal (Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) to see the potential of better lighting.

Now you are not going to say that I made your point again if I disagree by saying that he did not have enough time and POWER, and that the Imperial/Commonwealth British monarchy we admire today, if anything, appears to be the product of Disraeli

In any case, there is nothing like the ambition of a minor royal in a cast-off island (Edward III, Elizabeth I) to see the potential to fight for climbing to the top position in the Eurosphere.

Agreed. He did set the ball rolling but ran out of time. And I cannot be part of the "we," as I find all the bling and brocade a bit garish, and trying a bit too hard.

RIP----condolences to the British people on here----hope William and Harry who love each other find a way for reconciliation ---and keep the wives out of it.

I believe Cormac spotted in crowd in Edinburgh as Queens body arrives in Scotland

My condolences to the people who loved her.

I have nothing against her or any of them personally but for me - it is a fingernails on a chalkboard event. I have never liked "news" and "gossip" about the "royal family" or any other "celebrity". It grates on my nerves. I have had to change the channel on the news lately many times so I don't have to listen to it. I even fast forwarded through The View (that never happens)

The Queen is Dead R.I.P

The news came to me while having dinner on a short vacation in southern Germany, she was highly respected and loved here, to me an many others it felt somehow as if Granny had died, she was always there. A rolemodel for prussian fulfillment of duty alomost to the last breath.

A great part of german blood is flowing in british royal veins so it is appropriate she started her last journey in a Mercedes.

That's a lovely idea. However, the pedant in me can't resist pointing out that Queen Elizabeth's nearest direct German ancestor was her great-great-grandfather Prince Albert, Victoria's consort, who died in 1861. Her grandmother Queen Mary had a German father, the Duke of Teck, but Mary herself was an English rose. She was born in Kensington Palace.

That made me of think of this picture from the funeral of George VI. Three queens--Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and 85-year-old dowager Queen Mary, who looks like a ghost. She died in 1953, so our king knew his great-grandmother, who was born in 1867.

From what I read, Mary of Teck was more parental to Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret than the girls' parents were in education. She appeared stern in public, but was apparently quite caring.

A very moving ceremony today as the Queen's coffin was moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. Very regal and polished. The British are excellent at such things.
