There are so many to fall into.

But mine at the moment is like Alice's.

I have been walking around on a broken ankle/heel for some months now until I sought some diagnostics.

Hurts. Always some. And sometimes a lot.

I have pre-gabalin for another spinal fracture condition that I take rarely and 292's that I take even more rarely. But I get it. For those in chronic and sometimes debilitating pain...I get why the Opiod disaster is a thing.

Today I have taken both and washed them all down with a lovely Italian red.

Have you ever fallen prey to dependence on pain management? I have mine strictly under control...but need sleep and relief at some point.

Give me some hope on this. Because this is new to me.
 
Never... but perhaps tomorrow my kratom will be used to negotiate my Amsterdam comedown from the fun I had earlier this week.
 
I am one of those weirdos who doesn't respond well to opiates.

Probably for the best. I've had trouble with benzodiazepines in the past. Pills are the easiest to get into trouble with, so be mindful.
 
I’ve never really used pain pills but I can understand the appeal. Whatever the hospital shot me up with when I had a kidney stone was amazing.
 
I have never had a prescription pain killer before except maybe being given Naprosyn maybe for a root canal from hell.

I'm sure I will need something or other one day though.
 
I was given a months worth of percocets for 3 broken ribs years ago. I only took them for a week to get me through the worst of the pain.
I was given tramadol for pain after having plates and screws put in my ankle for the broken leg and foot. I only took them for 2 nights after surgery to get me through the worst of it. I was in the hospital recently for excruciating muscle spasms in my chest/stomach and pneumonia and they were giving me morphine for the pain.
I never felt high on any of these drugs. All they did was kill the pain and made me sleep.
I do have a high threshold for pain, so it was always easy for me to stop taking them.

I am in that group as well, If I take Hydrocodone, it keeps me awake. I'm usually pretty good with pain tolerance, so it isn't really a problem.

That was my treatment when I was last in the hospital with a stone. Never had it before. The drip was effective in only 15 minutes. I'm not sure mine had any morphine though. The nurse said it was non-opiate, so it could not have had morphine.

Since then, I got a prescription for it in tablet form, but only about 10 tablets, and I have not taken more than 1 or 2 ever, for kidneystones or gout. The NSAID is very powerful, so has potential to cause kidney damage.

My mother was both an alcoholic and addicted to pain pills and muscle relaxers, so I am even cautious about OTC meds.

I'm sure you won't become addicted. I also think you might look into those alternative medicine techniques that help you not to think about pain.
 
I have several ruptured discs. I have kidney disease and cannot take any nsaids and of course Tylenol is a joke. I have to take opioids. I'm a caregiver, so if I don't take pain meds, I can hardly get out of bed, and people that need me suffer.
 
Today, I have kept it to one Pregabalin after a day in the office. But I took care to be careful today.

Last night, I missed a step because of my kitteh Missy and came down hard on my foot and that took a few ice packs and NSAIDS to calm down.

I also have some fractured discs but can't take Tylenol...which is why my family Doc trusts me with 292's....I might give in and take one a week if it gets really uncomfortable, but this fracture is really testing me.

And I have to laugh (cry) because since whatever I did to cause it, I have turned over the whole garden by hand, planted hundreds of trees, cut firewood, cleared brush and probably done all the things that here in the cold midwinter...I am feeling acutely.
 
You should be very careful with Pregabalin and take it regularly or not at all. If you suddenly stop taking it, I've heard that it can trigger fits.
 
I first took it when I had shingles in my eye and head. Along with Gabapentin...and only took them for a little while because they just made me stupid.

I am low dosing with the Pregabalin at 50 mg to take the edge off and am only 1/2 through the scrip from early October, taking 1/3 the dosage suggested.

The 292's I take only when it is real agony.

Today it is kind of okay...after a day yesterday of cleaning up and laundry etc.
 
Today...not so good.

2 pregabalin before dinner....so I will likely be dozing off by 8pm.
 
Appointment with the surgeon booked...probably hasn't helped that I have limped along for months on this.
 
Not a good day today...I have developed a blood clot in my upper left leg above the knee and my Doc is off today.

Since I am on blood thinners, this shouldn't be happening, but there are a number of possible causes including cancer. Anyhow, the thrombophlebitis is so painful that I have thrown in the towel and dulled it with another 292....so looking forward to the appt with the surgeon and now, it seems, a Haematologist.

How do you know you've got a clot? I'm the world's worst for consulting Dr Google, but he's not always reliable.

For the first time in over 35 years on anti-coagulants...I am actually scared. I also have a low to mid-grade dull pain in my left chest.

And I should also note that my IVC filter is known to have pierced my veinous wall some time ago.

It is funny that on the same weekend that I learn of my first partner's death at the age of 80 (he was WAY older than I), this threat of mortality rears its head. And so painfully.
