The "Right" to be Fat

Doesn't really matter since he's certainly not a liberal no matter how much knee jerk right wing propaganda one spews.

Which means what? You think conservative is some kind of virtue, that cannot contain idiots and fools? He's more of a conservative than he is a liberal and you were talking out your ass without knowing shit about squat.

C'est la vie.

^I see.

I hadn't heard that, Luv. In the eyes of the public, I think most people still see him as a Republican.

was that cuz his name is Luv ....... whatever ;)

as for Mayor Bloomberg

the latest data I have says 66% of registered voters in NYC are democrats so for a republican to win mayor is very difficult

Giuliani took over for David Dinkins who let the city run into the ground - so the landscape has changed

he is in his 3rd term - he made that happen as term limits precluded that but voila - King Mike

that said ....... he

won in 2001 - was a Democrat but ran as a Republican as Rudy G's handpicked successor
in 2005 won re-election by 20% as a Republican
Left the Republican party in 2007
Ran in 2009 as an Independent

He's liberal on most social issues - he opposed Justice Roberts nomination due to his abortion stance
he's not a conservative by any means

i would say for NYC or the Northeast, he's a moderate - anywhere else he's a liberal

He's been an excellent mayor and this is one issue - health - that he is very passionate about

^ So with your experience living and working in NYC, do you really see this as a particular issue that he want's to right, or just floating a balloon to see which direction the wind takes it?

Personally, I see it as more "nanny state" on the part of his administration as an elected official.

There are so many other factors and variables involved, not the least of which is "choice."

^ Mayor Bloomberg is IMO a principled guy

He began the no smoking in public places thing

I don't think he's interested in being big brother at all - but feels like this is something he can make a difference on

he's been an excellent mayor - trust me when I tell you when he is replaced the city is going to veer LOONY LEFT

and it's gonna be scary

Here in Dallas it's really no secret which party any given Mayor leans toward.

If any Mayor of Dallas suggested what Bloomberg is suggesting, he'd either be laughed at in the streets, or burned in effigy for not focusing on doing his job.

I've publicly stated this several times and part of this is due to the fact that I once lived and worked in your fair city, NYC is the center of the known Universe.

But really?

Are things that under control in NYC that Bloomberg can focus his time, energy and efforts on something like this?

^ Mayor Bloomberg is IMO a principled guy

I agree and, to be clear, I have always thought Blloomberg was a great guy (even when he was a republican.)

I disagree with him here but that doesn't mean I don't think he's been a great mayor to your city.

trust me when I tell you when he is replaced the city is going to veer LOONY LEFT

and it's gonna be scary

Here I disagree with you because, I think that if he was still a democrat, people would be calling THIS loony left.

^ my point is that all of the Dems looking to replace him are vying for the left wing of the party which has felt stifled for the past decade or so

with wall st. struggling now, the city needs to be pro business so as to not "lose" to NJ and other nearby states

and reforms made with teacher's unions and others need to stick in order to show wall st (city debt holders) that costs can be contained

christine quinn who has been the mayor's sidekick has recently been opposing many of the things she went along with

Yeah, yeah, Republicans continue traditional sexual laws, changing slowly, but beyond that they are mostly libertarians.

I have yet to meet a Republican who agrees that it's better for a hndred guilty people to walk free than one innocent be punished.

They are not libertarians, they are authoritarians.

I see it as more meddling in other people's lives -- like his stupid gun sales ventures that got him nearly indicted by the DoJ and rebuked by the attorneys general of two different states. He may make the trains run on time, but he has no regard for the law as it applies to him -- he just wants to be in control.

says the guy who lives in the pacific northwest

it's scary how much u write with certainty about things u have no direct knowledge of or real experience

as for the "loss" of a 32 or 48 oz soda, i think the kids will survive the "meddling" and perhaps be healthier - which is more important???

and the post was directed to me so next time perhaps you see that and not respond as if .......

You really need to get out of the habit of acting superior to anyone who doesn't live in NYC. I don't have to live there to know things about your scofflaw mayor -- it was only printed in two newspapers I know of, reported on line, as well as in a couple of magazines I get... one even printed a copy of the letter of rebuke from the DoJ telling him to cease and desist or face charges.

BTW: this is what's called a "public forum". That means that in reality all posts are directed to all and sundry. Ego pops up often and thinks others should butt out if a post is "directed at" a particular person, but that's just juvenile whining.

I think this is more about KIDS than adults - not sure but seems that way

I think the IDEA is really good - the INTENT

and I think the benefits outweigh the slippery slope stuff

are we really gonna fight about our RIGHT to buy a big soda?

it's not like owning a gun or freedom of speech or religion

it's practical with NO REAL downside right?

The road to Hell is paved with many good intentions.

This law is absolutely one of the most asinine, idiotic nanny state laws I've ever seen. Just how many more of our freedoms are we going to be denied in the name of "what's good for you"?

The sale of sugared, carbonated sodas in this country has declined 24% since 1998. The American people are getting this already. We don't need an intrusive, freedom-restricting law to tell us what size drinks we can buy!

For sure.

It wouldn't hurt, though, to list the number of calories on the cups -- and the amount of fat that translates to. I imagine if someone was looking at that information every day, pretty soon the idea of such a giant soda would start to seem disgusting.

Which would be perfect!!

I actually don't mind if the nutritional information is posted on foods and drinks. For me it's a big help. I have never been a diabetic, but due to intestinal surgery 5 1/2 years ago, I have to watch my sugar intake. Plus, I like to consume high protein items. Having the info on the items helps.

Now if they can just print it in large font, I'd be happy! :D

Yeah -- it's no big deal to go into a 7-11 or somewhere and get a 48 oz drink -- but asking for 560 calories is a whole 'nother deal!

I've trained myself to recite how many calories in a beer or soda I grab. In the summer, at the beach or river, I make myself do extra exercise for them.

the "superior" acting guy is the one who thinks he can pontificate with certainty about a city and a mayor that he knows nothing about

have you been to nyc ?

it's awesome

crime is down - public services are good - it's clean

it's a great place to live

kudos to the mayor

come sometime and you will see
