After almost 20 years, the opening credits have changed. There are many of the original elements, but they have been expanded, and the sofa has. . . well, wait and see:

That's cool. I stopped watching the show when only the couch scene was changed in the opening credits. The movie was alright. Is the show any better nowadays?

I have to admit that I still watch the simpsons, well the new episodes anyway. Once I start watching a show I cannot stop, ever.

I prefer the older simpsons episodes.

I am a pretty avid Simpsons fan it was also the first Simpsons episode in HD.

haha I love the simpsons. Great new intro

I liked the movie, unfortunately they haven't carried that quality back into the new episodes, which are uniformaly gash as ever. Liked the new title sequence though.

Ahh...

I see that a box of 'Misa Sparkle' is now in the gorceries being rung up for Marge...

I haven't watched the show in ages. It got to be too painful, how they'd 'progressed' from subtle, intelligent comedy to more slapstick 'Three Stooges' stuff....

But, seasons...ehh...Three through eleven or so remain some of the best comedy writing *ever* on TV.

The movie was fun, certainly worth watching, but still a reminder of better days gone by..

I liked the new opening. While I agree it is not what it used to be, it is still enjoyable to watch.

As for the movie, over-all, I liked it.. I think they could of done more with it, I would loved loved to see Kang & Kodos play a role in it somehow, but...oh well.

I would say that they should think about ending it soon, while it is still somewhat on top, tho I don't know what FOX would do Sunday nights @7pm CT, it would create a awfully big hole

Stopped watching it long ago.

Futurama is better IMO.

Although.

A 2 minute intro seems kinda long..

They did it out of necessity. They started airing the show in HD and the opening sequence had to be completely re-animated and instead of remaking the original sequence shot-for-shot, they added some new things to account for some of the changes made over the last 20 years.

Isn't it still too long though.

If they are going to use the whole thing that would take up more time for the episode which would mean the episodes would have to be a bit shorter. Especially with the commercials.

They are going to probably have to shorten it.

Especially if it's fox. Like 5 commercials per show..

The length of the show always fluxuates and they've always shortened the opening credits to accomodate the length of the particular episode it's going in front of. They air the entire sequence during episodes that happen to run a little short and sometimes even animate an extended couch gag (like the one above) if the episode is particularly short.

I was wondering if it were just I or had they changed anything. With that being said, the show is not as witty as it used to be, but I'll take it over most of the other shows that are currently on the air.

If they keep the new intro (which I assume they will), they'll probably abridge it most of the time, as they did with the "old" opening. Sometimes they didn't show much more than Bart writing on the chalkboard, and the driveway/couch scene at home.
